In the TT one of the additional tubes is in the Subway channel which is 'new and improved' over the standard subway amps. The size of the WD800 likely harks back to the design of the original Walkabout - keeping a recognisable form factor which loads of players loved and found to be very intuitive. I think both these new heads look great. I also believe that the TT will be all the better for having dedicated eq for each channel as there is always a compromise on shared eq amps which have additional drive capabilities be they guitar or bass. A killer clean tone can become a little bass heavy when drive is added or need more mids, need less top end etc etc. Having two independent eq's potentially removes any such niggles. The Walkabout was always designed to sound like a big tube amp in a small package and I'm sure the WD delivers just as the original Walkabout did - the demo's seem to suggest it does! The price drop will obviously encourage more folks to consider one of these now they're more competitive but they still appear to have a really solid set of features which players want and christ knows they moaned about on various forums for years I cant imagine either of these amps would be bulky to carry in a should bag and it's certainly not heavy at 3.2kg considering what some peoples pedal boards clock in at! I know it's fickle but out of all the class D amps on the market right now the Boogie WD and TT appeal to me a little more than the competition. I really like the feature set and the overall form factor/design. In saying that I gigged a Walkabout for a few years way back and it's a cracking little amp and I fell in love with Boogie amps in general as a teenager (a local music shop stocked Boogie amps way back in the 90's and they were so cool!). I can only speak for myself but I think the Mesa drive sounds might have more wide spread appeal than the Microtubes amp circuits. I've yet to hear what the AO amp can do drive wise but I am familiar with the pedal and I know there are some good gain sounds - my interest would be in the lower gain application.

We’re a pub band here in Scotland and nothing on the horizon yet. I think it’ll be one of the last areas to be given the go ahead by the Scot. Gov. Our drummer did a live streamed gig with her other band from her garden and by all accounts her neighbours loved it so we might do one as a ‘rehearsal’ but it’s not due to imminent gigs. In saying that we have a great relationship with our main pub and once they get the green light we’ve been assured we’re first in so it’s nice to know that we’ll be able to hit the ground running - let’s hope we’re not too rusty!

There is a wd-800 on a Facebook group for £700 shipped if anyone is super keen. Hard not to be tempted at that price.

Well it does appear that it’s the old bloke playing the ‘synth/organ’ part so it should be fine 😉

Try before you buy. A TBird can feel very different on the strap imo. The first fret can feel a bit far away and if you’re already used to (and prefer?) short scale it might be a consideration.

Maybe you guys should start playing Whiter Shade of Pale!

Played a combustion 5 which had a very slim and very comfortable neck. I was used to 19mm spacing like on Lakland 5’ers which can feel huge but the Combustion was nice! I’d say it’s one of my preferred 5 string neck profiles albeit with limited experience.

I find ARP’s can be tricky for getting the timing right, maybe different on a keyboard but I’d struggle with the timing too using that setting with the band. Might just be getting the knack with a particular arp setting and ‘playing the pattern’ or dialling in the best fit for a particular song. What tracks were you thinking they might fit in? I thought I could hear a touch of Livin On A Prayer in that Bass6 clip🙂

Try messing with the release time to dial in ‘punch’ you might find it has a greater impact but like anything with compression there’s many schools of thought arguing both for and against and also depending upon the type of compressor circuit and input signal chain etc etc.

I’ll keep an eye out for it in the for sale threads in 3 months... and get saving 😀

Looks like a fun list. I’d recommend the Scary Pocket channel on You Tube for more inspiring funk - it’s a bit of a hipster collective playing reworked covers mostly in a very funky style. Some of, well actually most of the bass playing is tight as and the musicianship across the board is top notch!

Yup it was a Mooer Radar cab sim which included eq, mic type and placement as well as varying cab types. It’s great wee unit but I now use a stomp so it became redundant.

Sounds like an interesting and positive experiment! Be interesting to hear if it’s different with a drive pedal over the inbuilt circuits.

I’m looking forward to gigs again so much so that I want to bring the entire rig even though I’m really looking to downsize to iem only.

I think I read somewhere that the cab sim is on the DI out and the headphones out? You could try it out and hear for yourself. Not sure which cab sims come preloaded in these heads so you may need to (or want to) load up the Darkglass suite and add some of the available cabs to find your fav or which sounds best for your needs. Only you will know if it’s beneficial for your needs.

I work in Mental Heath and when I see folk talking about a lack of joy in things ‘work mode’ kicks in so apologies as I’m not trying to diagnose anyone nor would I be qualified to🙂

It’s important to understand the difference between affect and attitude when it applies to mental health. A dip in mood and/or motivation is not simply an attitude thing. It sounds like you were describing a drifting away from music due to other commitments while the OP very openly described a change in affect/mood due to a list of situational pressures and a loss of enjoyment from performing/playing. I really don’t mean to engage in armchair psychology and if I’ve picked you up wrong my apologies however identifying changes in how one feels ‘Emotional intelligence‘ is a valuable skill and can often prevent people from becoming more unwell both physically and mentally. You’re correct that having easy access to music gear makes playing much more accessible and therefore more likely to happen and coupled with an outlet to perform or an end goal like band rehearsal helps too but in this instance it feels like it’s a mood thing...which is different from attitude. I’ll stop with the ‘Loose Women’ psychobabble 🙂
