To get hold of one of these now would be the wrong side of £2,500, possibly much more now with the weaker pound (in fact the only price I could find was on a Slovakian website priced at €3,700 that's >£3,300 with today's exchange rate) so save yourself a few bob by buying this one :-)[/size][/font] [font=arial, sans-serif][size=3]I did a lot of research in buying his bass, which makes me even sadder to let go of it.     I love mine, I have a 1024x and a 1025x. Love the neck in the 1025's, just great quality all around. Also, these have been subject to price hikes recently, so these are £740+ new at the moment. So makes this even better value. GLWTS!

    Its a shame the Yamaha bb1024 isn't available as a fretless......I wonder if anyone has done a fretted to fretless conversion of the 1024?

    I have this exact model, soooooo much bass for this money. I'm still in love with it after a lot of playing. It has got me playing more P-bass style sounds with my band and the J-pickup is just lovely. And both pickups have a stonking output. For me it knocked the socks off other similar basses that were more than double the new price. GLWTS

    I have been mightily impressed with my 1024x ...I had a fairly open budget up to £1500 for the right bass, and this was unbelievable quality and value....and best of all I loved the sound. As others have said, the output on the pickups are markedly louder than other passive basses I tried and the neck dimensions suited me down to the ground. Get one from yamaha london, and you'll get the best price, I think they've come down to about £600....a steal. I couldn't be more pleased

    Just for the record, the tone on these is lovely.....ive had many complements on the tone of mine, and I can honestly it isn't my playing :-) a pleasure to play too! GLWTS

I have been using it for band practice with drummer, 2 guitarists and keyboards. It has held up very well....I have the volume about 50-60%. Yes, it could do with a bit more head room, but in a medium sized practice room I have been totally pleased. And the 9.9 kg is a massive massive plus! I'm sure you'll be pleased with it, and at £229 it is a steal. Hope you enjoy it! :-)

I have a 1024x ...I've not been able to put mine down since I bought it, sounds great with my band. Even acoustically it absolutely resonates and sings. I tried a 1025 in the yamaha music store london, I've never been a 5 player but it was very comfortable to play, neck dimensions are great....it is without doubt the next bass on my list. And they have just reduced the prices I think....£634 for a 1025, £672 for a 1025x....tthe playability and build quality make this a steal

    I had a 4string version of this.....great quality, very well made, great materials....I deeply regret selling it :-( Good luck with the sale. These must be very rare!

    Absolutely fab basses....I tried many many fenders priced way above these and this came out on top. The neck is lovely and the pickups are stonking....I love mine! You won't find it cheaper than this. GLWTS!

    It arrived safe and sound.....looks even better in the flesh than on the Gedo website. I'm really pleased with it, it came with the evah pirazzi strings on it plus adjustable bridge. I tuned up and it sounds great. I just need to learn how to play the thing now :-) it's a very different kettle of fish to the steinberger upright I had. I will probably take it to a luthier to see if the set up needs sorting out. The action is ok, could be a little high given that the adjustable bridge is in its lowest position and will only raise the action further. That's not a huge deal, and so it has been a massive success so far, and so another thank you to you all for giving me the confidence to finally buy it and the really helpful information.     Thanks Marc, the courier said a 'small' palette will be delivered tomorrow....it can't be that small! Trying to pretend to be interested in work this week has been rather difficult! Excited is a massive understatement ! :-)

    Hi Lenny, I've been told it will arrive on Wednesday so fingers crossed it all goes well. It's a Strunal 5/8 model (I think Thomann have one on their website too), and read good things about them. It came in under budget even with all the extras which is great! So far Gedo have been very helpful with info and hopefully that will continue when the bass arrives. I'll be a new player, well kind of, I had an electric upright ( ned steinberger CR5M) a few years ago, had a few lessons to begin with which has helped me think about basics even now. I'm keen to start lessons again to get me up and running (as well as Geoffbassist's brilliant YouTube lessons:-) ) and so I think you have sound advice Lenny....I want to take it slowly and properly :-) As sad as this sounds I've no real intent on taking it on the road as yet, it is purely for my selfish satisfaction! Which is why I was not worried about getting a carved one. I'll be looking after it :-)

    Well, today I put in an order from Gedo for a fully carved Strunal bass, with adjustable bridge and Evah Pirazzi strings....and for a great price. It should arrive in 2-3 days so as a tip of my hat to all of you who helped me focus my search, I'll update the thread on its arrival (I hope it goes well!). I'm trying not to get too excited!     Thanks Phil, funnily enough I think I have seen some of Ben's basses a few times on eBay and they look pretty special. I'd definitely be prepared to travel, so I'll have a look for sure.

    I thought I had done loads of research (well, I have) but can't believe I'd missed the Gedo website. Some great offers on there and because I'm getting impatient/overexcited, I think I've narrowed it down to a couple in particular......I just need my house sale to complete then I'm good to go!     Thanks everybody, this is all helping focus my search....and now I've found a couple of local luthiers (Vernon Violins in Stretford, and Sam Wells) I think a Gedo or a Thomann are high on the list...although I trip to Tim Toft is still on the cards!
