My Warwick Streamer Std hasn't seen much action since I got my Status Groove but it hold so many good gigging memories from my old band.

Sad to say I'm selling my NC410 combo that I've had for just under 2 years. It's hardly seen much action and has only been out the house twice for full band rehearsals prior to band imploding. This is a great combo but as the specs below show it is seriously surplus to my home-use requirements - this amp deserves to be gigged. It's loud enough to drown out a Marshall half stack (I know I've tried) and has a lovely clear sound. The 4x10 speakers also kick out a serious amount of bass - it sounds fantastic with my Status Groove and Warwick Streamer Std. There is little or no wear and tear on this combo other than a crack that I repaired in the right hand carry handle - which is totally solid again. I paid £499 for this new - so make me an offer. I may consider a small combo of 100-150 watts output in PX. Specs from the Eden site: 320 Watts RMS@4Ω Power Handling 400W RMS Frequency Response 48Hz - 18Khz ±2dB Sensitivity 104dB SPL@1W1M Impedance 4Ω Dimensions 24.75w x 24.75 x 16.25d Weight 62 LBS http://www.eden-electronics.com/Nemesis/indiv/nc410.asp [IMG]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2282/2377288822_c4238359bb.jpg[IMG] [IMGhttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2065/2377286964_23e1cf81c6.jpg[IMG] BTW - I am am willing to make arrangements with potential buyers when it comes to pick up, delivery, etc. Just bear in mind that I live just outside of Glasgow and I don't want to post this combo!

Great bass, great story to go with it.

Cheers for the replies - Paul, Bass Bloke and Shergold. Shergold - I've had my SM58s for years and only used them for instruments or to let my wife use our amp when singing. I was considering one of those Zoom field recorders (H2 or something? The 4 track one) to act as a condensor and PC interface but I'm trying to minimise costs and I wanted to use my old laptop as a dedicated recorder. A condenser mic is a long term aim for me. Thanks again, DB

I got my Nemesis NC410 4x10 combo (sorry got the model number wrong - the amp section is NC320) brand new from GuitarGuitar in Glasgow almost exactly 2 years ago as I needed something to get the sound I wanted in the band I was in. Typically the band fell apart 3 weeks later and I haven't played in a band situation since then - just playing along with records, my wife's piano or home recording. This combo is great and very loud - capable of drowning out a Marshall half-stack. I love its clear sound, especially with my Groove bass but I feel it deserves to be used at more than 1/5 volume - it's definitely surplus to my requirements at home. Effects come through really well too. It's only been out of the house once to go to a rehearsal and the only damage is a crack in one of the side handles caused during transit. The repair is absolutely solid. Apart from that it's in showroom condition. I have a decent enough Marshall AS50 twin channel amp that I can use with my Sansamp at home. I suppose my only worry is that I'll sell the Nemesis and then get in a band again but I've had nothing going on for the past 2 years. Anyway - I'd be interested in your views and even offers if you fancy this combo. BTW I love just outside Glasgow. I would consider a trade for a Trace BLX150 if anyone has one!

I'm sure I've seen these in SoundControl and GuitarGuitar in Glasgow in the past couple of years. A Scout would be ideal for me so I haven't tried one in case I decide I can't live without it.

I've had a black Jim Deacon MM copy for 14 years and it's served me well both live and recorded. It's had different necks and bridges but the only mod that's stayed on is the Kent Armstrong soapbar I got with my Bassist sub years ago together with the series/parallel miniswitch installed at home. The original scratchplate had to go when I changed the pup but it looks much better with it's custom made tortie one compared to the original white. The KA pickup is a monster , higher output than many active basses. It'll have to go soon as I've modified it to the point of destruction as I've used it to practise modding for the past few years. I think I must have got a good one to begin with though. Are Jim Deacon the same as SX as they look very similar to me? TBH the current Yamaha BBs and Squier VM series are the only cheapish instruments that have made me want to pick them up in years. I still haven't seen anything for £400 that is better made than my Warwick Streamer Std IMO.

We've recently replaced our laptop so I have the old one going spare and I've decided to put it to use as a digital recording device. I don't want to spend too much cash though. I know next to nothing about PC-based recording other than Cubasis is one of the less expensive software packages available. I've already got guitar and bass Sansamps for DI recording. 2x Shire SM58, a Phonic MM1202 mixer and a little Zoom drum machine that I've been using with my Fostex VF08 for a few years. My current set up takes up a lot of space though, and I think using the laptop could improve this. What sort of interface should I get for recording vocals and instruments? Are there any decent freeware/shareware applications I could try? Is it possible to get hold of cheap or free drum machine/sequencer plug ins to replace my Zoom? Any help, guidance, etc will be gratefully received. Cheers, DB
The dates on Substance are recording dates rather than release dates. Dead Souls was originally released on the Licht Und Blindheit EP in 1980
Thanks for the clarification - good to know there are plenty of Hooky fans out there.

Most memorable instruments you've played?
Doc B replied to nobodysprefect's topic in General Discussion
I once tried a 6 - string Tune Bass with whammy bar bridge! Crazy but cool too. -
You could also try and get of 'thump' using a bit of foam rubber under the strings near the bridge in the style of John Deacon.

What a pile of junk - burn it.
I'd like to listen to some of Janek's work - I think I'll download some from itunes today. I recall somebody said in the "I hate jazz" thread that it bugs them when people say "cats" ie. "there are a lot of hip cats playing in NYC". This is from a Janek interview: And this is something you’ve checked out? And that you can tell? Oh yeah, very deeply. But not as deeply as some of the cats I’m playing with, which is my main reason for living in New York. I can get my ass kicked every day of the week by someone who is better than me and more advanced. It’s inspiring and makes me work that much harder. Some of the cats in the US start extremely young. I was 19 starting at Berklee with cats in my class at 17 that had already had some of the biggest offers for some of the biggest gigs in the world.
My cat bites me when I try to play with him. I'll get me coat....

Time's Up by Living Colour I don't have a hope in hell of managing it but it's nice to dream.
As for style analysis, I learnt more from the full transcriptions in the Punk Issue than Dave Marks' articles. These isn't a dig at him, far from it. My view is that styles develop naturally through playing the bass lines of your idols, not through learning in a classroom. Again, personal preference. As for the reviews, I'm at work now so difficult to dig out some examples. But it often seems that the body of the text (which is often formulaic and lacks originality) is incongruous with the rating: ie "a very good bass for the money, well worth check out = ***" and "dissapointing, problems with finish and there are better out there = ***".
The punk issue of BGM is by far the best issue they've done - fantastic work there. That one and the one with John Paul Jones on the cover are the only ones I've bought in about a year. I only by Bassist once or twice a year depending on who's in it too. I usually don't know who half the people in the bass mags are. Then again I don't think I ever recovered from the demise of Bassist. The review in BGM and BP are pointless really - I just go online for owners' reviews to get a more honest and informed view.
Here Here.... And whilst we're on the subject, the country whose aristocracy was responsible for alomst singlehandedly wiping out huge numbers of wonderful African creatures as 'trophies'..... creatures who were only killed so the assailant could brag about what a big animal he'd shot..... The same country that started whaling.... the same country that started the slave trade.... the same country killed thousands of foriegn nationals whilst on (religious) crusades, to impose thier religion upon 'heathens'.....
You've missed the point of the OP by such a margin that even Tom Tom couldn't help you find it again. You might also want to check your knowledge of history.

LOL - Thanks for posting that - It has an almost surreal quality on this side of the Atlantic. Nice one.

The guy I got my first bass from told me not to buy any plectrums to begin with as he said I'd probably find it harder to switch to fingerstyle later on. I have no idea if this was true or not but it worked for me! So my first instrument was bass guitar and I learned with fingers initially but a lot of my favourite players use plectrums (Peter Hook, Billy Gould, JJ Burnel etc) so I learned too that after a few weeks. I am actually most comfortable with fingerstyle but some ideas and songs really need a plectrum - my wrist gets stiff when I play with a pick though but fingerstyle helps my chronic shoulder problem. Using a plectrum also meant I could learn guitar more easily. I like the way I feel more connected with my bass with both hands on the strings and I always try both fingers and pick when I try a new bass out. I can't slap to save my life. Even Flea started using a plectrum a few years back, possibly starting with the Californication LP - he's also a big fan of Hooky.

There's still 'The Arrow' - all rock radio for the Northeast! for a fix of classic rock. I alternate between The Arrow and 6Music on DAB. KB
Lower the action, thinner the tone. Higher the action, better the tone. Also, lighter the strings, thinner the tone but the easier it is to play, heavier the strings better the tone but harder to play.
To complicate things even more, years ago I read in a bass mag that fitting slightly heavier guage strings allows for a lower action without buzzing as they don't move as much as the lightest guages, therefore rattle less. This definitely worked for me when I went from 40s to 45s on my Streamer Std, not sure what would happen with much heavier guages though.
