1. I've given this a lot of thought and I decided I definitely couldn't live without my pink one-stringed bass.
2.
This Ibanez has the same body shape (give or take a contour or two) as all Soundgear Ibanez basses. I can't see the Warwick similarity... as to the Wimbish sig. you're right, the inlays are pure Spector
To my eye the curved body and choice of woods make these Ibanez's look quite Warwick Streamer-like when you see them first hand (just my opinion). The Streamer of course used to be licensed from Spector. I always thought the Wimbish sig. was a bit cheeky as it looks like an Ibanezed version of his orange Spector. Shame they didn't do a Korean or European Spector version instead as the Spector NS/Streamer is one of my favourite shapes.
3. Not tried the 12 but I loved the 8 string Rhapsody I tried a couple of years ago. Playing the intro and verse from Jeremy by Pearl Jam made me grin like a fool! I'd love one of these but can't really justify. Harmonisers and octavers don't get close IMO. BTW - I'm sure I've seen pictures of John Paul Jones with a 12 string (BEADGC style) with octave strings.
4. The Ibanex and Warwick are both 'heavily influenced' by the original Spector NS. The Ibanez Doug Wimbish Sig. even has the same shape fretboard inlays as Doug's Spector.
5. Very cool - I've got the guitar version in sunburst and I only paid £250 for it. The BEX didn't have enough frets for me unfortunately or I'd have got one of those when they were new.
6. Been years since I've gigged but I did have someone sound check using my amp get his settings and then immediately crank the pre-amp gain to full when he took to the stage. Good job I'd switched the compressor/limiter in 'to make it louder for him' - no real distortion or volume increase just a lot of action on the clip LED on low notes. Good job he didn't know to turn the post EQ volume. Arrangements made with the promotor can also be a pain - did one gig where the 'headline' act got lost between Manchester and Sheffield and they were supposed to be supplying the backline. Ended up going through the PA via my multi FX - and it sounded great!
7. My main present is a coat. My current contract finishes on 31 December so I'd really like a job!
8. 'Bass - how low can you go!' Chuck D of PE - Bring the Noise (sampled from PE's Night of the Living Base heads I think - but the meaning changes in the context of Bring the Noise)
9. I have also tried to get into the type of players mentioned in this thread. I once even bought a Marcus Miller album and returned because it just didn't do anything for me. The Sheryl Crow album I exchanged it for was great though and this was before she switched to bass! I've still got a CD that came with Bassist years ago that is all solo bass stuff but I just can't sit and listen to it. It's fair enough to say that we shouldn't watch these clips on YouTube but some of us have tried to get into this sort of thing, it almost feels like it is our duty as a bassist to try and appreciate such music. At least we've tried though!
10. I'm listening to The Life Aquatic Sessions by Seu Jorge right now. Just the man himself and his acousitc guitar on an album of Bowie Classics translated into Brazillian/Portugeuse (With one of two original songs too I think). A fantastic album - can't just pick one track as a favourite when there's Rebel Rebel, Ziggy Stardust, Liffe on Mars etc, etc. The Life Aquatic OST is great too and has a few of the Bowie covers, with original Bowie, Iggy and the Stooges and other stuff too. I love Wes Anderson films - can't wait to see Darjeeling Limited.
11. Just a teaser shot of my Status Groove IV with factory-fit graphite neck resting against it's black and blue buddy The Nemesis (NC410).
12.
PS. is the surplus apostrophe in the thread title just to annoy people like paul, the and me?
I swear that wasn't there when I posted the thread - that really bugs me now - can titles be edited?
13. Twice in my life I've seen some bass gear that I should have bought but for some reason didn't and lived to regret it: The first was a 1970's Fender Musicmaster in black for £250 (this was about 1995) The second was a Squier JV series precision in black with tortie plate going for £120 in Cash Converters in Sheffield back in 2000. I still can't believe I didn't get it! Any of you been as daft or just didn't have the means at the time?
14.
A couple of favourites: - OLD: John Lee Hooker, I think the track is called 'The Waterfront' 'I Cover the Waterfont' I think it's called but whatever, that's a great track, although I only know the version with van MOrrison on it. Loads of JLH stuff is great when it's just his voice, guitars and his feet as percussion on a sheet of wood. Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is another recent favourite of mine. Chris Cornell's solo version of Like Suicide is fanatstic too.
15. Do any of you use those low F#s etc for more dance oriented music like hip-hop or even industrial rock (like NIN etc)?
16. Doc B

Ive got my 9

That's a work of art ARGH. A lot of basses with more than 6 strings look unbalanced aesthetically to me but that one's gorgeous. I'd love to hear and feel the lowest note it puts out!
17. Norwood Fisher from Fishbone - Bonin in the Boneyard, Lemon Meringue, are pure class Muzz Skillings of Living Colour - Funny Vibe, Time's Up, Deperate People Colin Greenwood of Radiohead - very tasteful Is Peter Hook underrated? I like most of his stuff but what he did in Joy Division is timeless IMHO - She's Lost Control, Digital, Dead Souls, etc. Anyway those are four of the players who most made me want to play (other than Flea) There's a few others that have already been mentioned here - Jack Bessant of Reef, Cass Lewis, Bill Gould, Andy Rourke
18.
Yep, excellent bass player; you might start with these songs: The Headmaster Ritual The Queen is Dead Barbarism Begins At Home (of course!) Rubber Ring This Charming Man and here is where to go
Cheers!
19. +1 for Andy Rourke Never liked the Smiths as I can't stand Morrisey's voice but I heard a session version of How Soon is Now on 6 Music this weekend and the bass playing was fantastic. I may have to borrow some Smiths albums, which is something I never thought I'd say! Johnny Marr's great too. The intro to how soon is now is one of the best of any song (IMHO).
20. It's been a very long time since I've been inspired to start a new post but this morning I was surprised to read an interview with John Patitucci in my usual paper: The Herald (formerly The Glasgow Herald). I'm really impressed that someone I've only read about in bass magazines got a fairly lengthy interview in a newspaper. http://www.theherald.co.uk/features/featur...1830880.0.0.php http://www.sco.org.uk/ In short it seems that JP will be doing some concerts with the SCO. I can't say I'm a fan of his or even jazz or fusion but I might just check this out as it sounds so interesting.
