Since the new player Jaguar series was launched, I'm a bit confused by the lack of colour options available. I know the Jaguar was once available in Olympic White, but I'd like to know more detail. Specifically, I'm curious about the non-short scale, PJ config without all the switching options. When was it introduced and when was it discontinued? Was It MIA? MIM? CIJ? Thanks in advance.

Sadly, I don't like white guitars....

The Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass. I found out about these basses after they'd been discontinued, so I never got to see one in a shop, let alone play one. I've always had a thing for tele body basses, and I've a plan to someday build a shortscale one. These however are 32" so kinda medium scale. I prefer the single pickup version, over the mudbucker/jazz config. Has anyone played/owned/still own/modded one of these? any opinions? or pics? They seem to be hard to find nowadays.

I'm a black and maple kinda guy......

I really don't like the look of white on white guitars, or white guitars in general. I have only one exception though. A white P bass, with a rosewood neck and a black pickguard. Thankfully I already have one!

Grangur, it was never my intention to imply you're an idiot. It's just the some of the advice I received over on talkbass was from people with decades of experience so I deferred to them. If you feel confident that you could do something with my neck for the price of postage, have at it. I'm all for rescuing it if possible. But because of the monetary worth of the bass, my own lack of skills, equipment and experience, I though best just to get a cheap replacement neck and forge onwards. Regarding the truss rod, I don't think it's bent, or at least I hope so. If it was then I'd definitely give up at that stage. A board-off repair would simply not be cost effective for me. If you still want to have a go at straightening it, just let me know.

I've been assured that the neck is past saving, by an expert on such things over on TB. He's adamant that it would go back to the ski jump as soon as string load is on it. So that's why I got the neck so quickly. I want to teach myself fret levelling and polishing so I plan to use to Squier neck to practice on.

Well the neck arrived today, and it fit like a glove. No drilling or sanding needed. In fact I'd say the pocket was a smidge too wide for it. There was no resistance whatsoever marrying the two together.

Where does it say it's used? I can't see it.

That's a Mexican Standard and is priced about right.

Some of you fine folks who frequent TB may have seen this discussion already, but I'm moving the topic over here. I've been given a Squier Standard P Bass Special in Satin Pewter Metallic (circa 2009) like the one pictured below, for free as the neck is bent (classic ski jump, actual pic below). The folks at TB have advised that without significant work the neck is past saving. I've sourced a replacement neck from a Harley Benton (also pictured) for €40 and it should fit when it arrives. So this is where you folks come in, I'm sharing my plan for this bass and I would like general advice, and help sourcing parts. The plan is: 1. Replace the hardware for black. That means a black bridge that fits a Squier, black neckplate, black machine heads, knobs, and all screws. I'm not looking to go upmarket, just something that befits a Squier, so cheap and cheerful is the order of the day here. I already have cheapish heads on my Jazz, so I MAY put these on this bass and buy upmarket heads for the Jazz, I don't know yet. So maybe recommendations on both cheap and upmarket black machine heads. I need a place where I can get all of this together that wont break the bank. 2. Reshape the headstock. I'm faced with two choices here. If I have enough real estate to work with on the HB headstock, I'd like to try shaping the headstock to a '51 P or a standard P. I've always wanted a bass with a '51 P headstock, but I think the standard P would look better in this case. Advice? 3. Colour match the headstock. The original headstock was matched, so I'd like to do the same here. The colour code is 543, but I've no idea on how to do this. Any advice? 4. Pickups. I'm not familiar with the pickups on this bass, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do here. Again, any advice is welcome. 5. Electrics. I might change out the pots, but I'll be shielding it with copper tape. So there you have it, if any of you can chime in with advice or suggestions please feel free!

Where's a good source in the EU (or ships to the EU) for Geddy guards? I've a white 3ply on mine but I've always wanted to experiment with a matte black one ply.....

The Ernie Ball 2018 Stingray Special
Bassmingo replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm loving the roasted maple look, I think it's beautiful. To add some perspective, 20 years ago in 1998 I bought a new SR4 3EQ Black & Maple while on holiday in the states. The price tag at the time was $1100, which equated to IR£600 at the time. Adjusting for inflation, that equates to $1700 and €1096 in today's money. Stingrays at the time back home were about 1500 Irish Pounds which is north of €2.5k in today's money, which coincidentally is what the new specials are going for on thomann....... -
Hello once again. I was briefly active here when I first joined 8 years ago, but real life got in the way and I wasn't playing/tinkering/collecting as much as I used to. That's all changed now and I'm back to my old ways. I was pottering about on Talkbass for a while (and still am) but the guys over there whilst nice, assume everyone is american. So I'm resurfacing here as a more euro-centric group may suit my needs to source bits an pieces (and just general banter in fairness) Looking forward to diving back in. Cheers!

Right, clearing out all the surplus stuff so this is up for grabs. A rare Marshall Shredmaster distortion pedal, equally at home on guitar (Radiohead) or bass (Blur). I am the sole owner of this pedal from new, and it was only used a handful of times before going into storage. its in excellent condition and works perfectly. the only flaw is somewhere along the way i lost the battery cover. Takes 9v battery or boss style power supply. There are two on ebay right now, and if i get no bites here, thats where it'll end up also. theses are collectable, and even without the battery cover I dont think i'm being too greedy to ask for £120 plus shipping for this. paypal only, feel free to ask any questions.
Yup. Not sure what Ross Vallory is playing now, but then it was a Magnum 1, live & studio.
Interesting, that song has quite the unusual tone, but never figured if it was the bass itself or all that processing. hows it done?

Any Death Cab For Cutie Fans?
Bassmingo replied to William James Easton's topic in General Discussion
have all the albums, but it took narrow stairs to draw me in. you gotta have balls to play one line (i will possess your heart) for most of the song, that 4 minute build before the vocals come in is lovely. have to say i like the postal service a bit more though.
