1.
I'd play everything apart from the G in the final bar on the A string but I guess I'm lazy
As would I
2.
What if the intention is to let the open A string ring?
It isn't, it's root 5th
3.
It's because it's shown in a proportional font which is useless for tab as characters have different widths, and the widths depend on the font. Put it into Courier or a similar non-proportional font and you'll see the A and D are alternating.
This is the case. It's all single notes.
4. Pulled a TAB of the net and it's accurate enough for what I need but, and I've noticed this before, why would you play this in that position on the E ? W H E E E E Q Q Q Q Q Q Q E E |----------|--------------|---------------|--------------| |----------|--------------|---------------|--------------| |----------|--------------|-----0-----0--|------3--1-0-| |----------|----5-7-8-9-|-10---10----|-8--3---------| I'd start on the A string
5.
You would need to get decent earbuds as the ones they come with are a bit cheap and nasty, but once you have done that they'd take anything you throw at them. They are basically ipods, the hardware sends the signal and the headphones determine the quality.
Much obliged, think I'm going to pull the trigger on them
In terms of gear I prefer to use wired monitors, it's one less thing to go wrong. Hugh
Wired would be no good to us. The guitars are all wireless and we run along the tables.
6.
@Bassjim: Not argumentative. Our current PA speakers are 8" ones and struggle to do justice to the bass sound. We are going to move to bigger PA speakers, don't know which size yet but NOT a four speaker system as that would be as pointless as you suggest. We are working to minimise the size of our kit in every way. Link for the G4M IEMs. £120 for kit and 3 receivers. http://www.gear4musi...-Receivers/164T
Really interested in these mate. Do you put everything through them ? I know you're still carrying back line till you up your PA but do these things cope ok with kick drum and your bass ? We have enough PA not to carry back line if we went in ear but obviously they'd need to work with everything in the mix then. cheers Les
7. Done put me down for one, whatever it is
8. I haven't pal, not had chance to play with it yet, probably cos' I have other combo's so can afford to drag my heels but I am missing it so must get to it soon cheers Les
9. Brilliant ! Well done you for doing the gig
10. Someone needs to man up and tell the bloke before he walks into this. No issues with getting rid of him for the reasons above but to not tell him and allow that to happen is a poor show and unnecessary Les
11. Thanks pal, I'll try that
12. Last night my BA-300 115 stopped putting any meaningful volume out It all worked but was really quiet even full on, had to chuck a bit of bass through my monitor. The signal from the DI section on the back was still perfect to the desk so at least the out front sound was there. Any suggestions of what I could check myself ? ta Les
13.
If you ever part this out I'd happily take the body.
and I would take the neck Les
14. Went OK. I'd never met the others in the band but I was well prepared and the band was OK. It was the first one so we'd all leaned on our regular bands to get down and support it. We opened up and did 4 or maybe 5 numbers that were well received. My singer rolled up with the previous drummer and the last but one guitarist, both of whom still dep for us and we did about 4 or 5 numbers after. Then a bloke got up with a guitar and sang a few, didn't require any backing. Then the drummer and one of the guitarists bass/vocalist from their regular band got up and they did a few numbers. We then closed with 3 or 4 numbers. All in all the night was filled with good music that went down well but sadly we didn't get called on to back anyone. Even though the house band was certainly decent the difference between that and the two well rehearsed units was marked. Looking forward to next week and do hope it gets established. Thank you all again for your advice and encouragement Les
15. Well tonight's the night
16. Done Looks like I have ice flowing through my veins Les
17. Mackie srm 450's and Peavey pro subs, All powered, think the tops are 400 ish and the bins are the same. It's enough for your scenario, pub band, but unlike you we do let the PA do as much of the work as possible. All bought second hand(at different times) for £580 Les edit cos' I just read the question properly, I think subs make a worthwhile difference
18.
... and I still don't get it.
and I still, still don't get it
19. I use it to smooth things out but I kinda think if you can really hear the compressor you may be using too much
20. I still don't get it ?
21. I bought a second hand Jim Deacon short scale P bass, the older one with the fender shape headstock. Put a Gotoh bridge on, KiOgon harness, Entwistle PBXN Neodymium pups and now it's my main gigging bass. but in all honesty it wasn't a bad bass to begin with, and was certainly giggable without doing anything to it, I just wanted to mod Les
22. The sound engineer will give you his idea of a bass guitar whatever you do
23. Thanks for everyone's input. All useful. Iv'e kinda got mixed feelings about it now but will give it a whirl and see if it gets off the ground. Ta Les
