Jah Wobble next for me at a pub in Northampton, September time.

Just one note played by Chris Squire is better than anything I have managed to cobble together.

The youth of today, they don't know how easy they have it with their iem, foh, rcd's, transport, new strings, gig bags, lightweight gear, PA's, stages, lighting, miked up drums, doormen, cheap beer, lack of skinheads, somewhere to practice and people actually love coming to watch live music these days.

My old Vamp 60b retired to be a cutting horse. The electronics went to the scrap man minus the control knobs and the speaker is temporarily in a BFM cab. My first amp from 1982 ish. At least its still with me in spirit.

Retired, from any gig over 150 capacity. My hips lock if I stand in one place.

Every day is a school day. I forget stuff I learned six weeks ago. You only need to be as good as you need to be on the day.

The Devout at Northampton picturdrome on the 23 July. A touch easier than seeing the real Depeche Mode in an arena.

Pleased to report that the vocals are up in the mix today on the telly, just right. The only reason I mentioned it yesterday is because the beebs sound and coverage is usually brilliant. I should have mentioned that before. Still no Sir Paul on playback though. Watching Holly Humberstone at present.

The vocal levels are for every act on telly, way too low this year.

If you look on the Celestion site it says the basic 15 driver they make is suitable for a large difference of sizes of cabs. You might need to play with the port size but I doubt it unless you are aiming for technical theory perfection. I have a old JBL cab that has had 3 different speakers in. All sounded different but all sounded good.

I didn't bin it in the end. Four years later I get around to buying some blackboard paint and fitting a vintage Fane driver instead of the excellent HH which was a guitar thingy unit. I shall be fitting the recommended driver if I decide to use the cab on stage. You would of thought lock down would of given me time but as I work for the national grid it didn't happen. I changed my member name as I messed up signing in so often too.

I would concentrate on quality more than size. Also have plenty of power in reserve from the amp.

Plus one for using your ears and the volume pot. Speaker cab ratings are just as wild as amp ratings I think. I opened up a very well known brand new 200w 1x15 once to find a speaker rated at 100watts. I bet that is not unusual.

Or Hartley Benton GPA-100 pedal size amp. Definitely no fan in that. 60 odd quid.
-
Hartley Benton guitar power amp GPA-400, 150 smackers, class D, no fan, bridgeable and 3kg. Has some very detailed and positive reviews on Thonman.

I lent out my Antoria semi acoustic bass, Selmer lead/bass 50 valve amp and 15" cab to a work colleague. Never saw them again. I saw him about 10 years later delivering something to another workplace I was at by then, he ran back to his van when he saw me, didnt you Alfie.

Only Sting makes money as a musician surely.

Keep banging on your doctors door if you have swelling and or pain in joints. It's hard to tell if playing bass causes problems. Your should not have pain unless there was a previous injury, operation or if you are young. I am sure we are all at our ideal weight too insuring we don't put excess weight on our joints😊 and eat well, avoid alcohol and others. Your body can turn on itself and attack the joints with age. I ignored pain in my right hand and wrist for a decade naivley thinking it was repetitive strain until it spread to my whole body and could only shuffle around like a octogenarian. Rheumatoid arthritis is not common in men but eventually I was diagnosed with it way too late at 42 and my immune system had attacked my right wrist and it has caused severe osteoarthritis of it and it is slowly fusing together. The rest of me is OK though now as I take a cocktail of meds to stop my immune system attacking my joints and the wrist is good enough to strum with even though it is a inch bigger in circumference than my other. I am nearly 60 now and can do a great impression of a healthy person apart from the wrist now the meds have stopped the immune system chewing at the rest of me. I am not saying any swelling of the joint can be rheumatoid arthritis though, not for a minute. See your gp. Happy days, my condition honestly doesn't bother me. There are far worse things to have.

Still not surface finished but it does work.

Nice thread, the cab looks great. I agree Bill's cabs sound very clear. I have built three of these interesting range of cabs using a handsaw. A Tuba24, DR250 and more recently one of Bill's simpler designs as my right wrist is damaged these days and can't manage much sawing. The first 2 cabs used a 10" eminence beta speaker which sounded much bigger with the efficient designs. My regret is I never got to gig with these but did sell them to someone on here when my username was billynoband but I cannot remember their name. The most recent one I built uses a old British vintage 12" bass speaker out of a V-amp combo (not a recommended driver lol) and sounds more like a 15 but clean too. It's still a very lightweight cab even with a old driver in. Not had the chance to gig with this yet either. I firmly believe that even the easiest to build and simplest of Bill's designs will sound as good as any comparable commercial cab. Everyone should try building one.

Ashdowns own site are selling the studio 1x10 speaker stool with a storage box in the top rear too for £169. I presume it's the same cab but with a cushion nailed on top.

Can I hijack this thread with a question please. The Rumble 500 gets a good shout. Is this amp as useable as say the old trace Elliott combos
