    I hear you, all band members should play to the volume of the bass but unfortunately seldom do and I concur with the wedge monitor issue. I play in folk/Americana band and the volume from monitors is louder than the PA. Incase I just use my Yamaheiko pickup which is the best I’ve tried for my bass. My aim is to play as acoustically as much as possible and use a mic when I need more volume. The Felix is perfect for that with a decent mic. According to some forums I’ve been reading the Neumann KM 185 v2 sounds close to the Scheops CMC6/MK42 but is half the price. The older Neumann KM 84 sounds really good too but the second price is outrageous. Have you tried the Remic?

    When you say it’s better than the Nadine, DPA 4099, Troll mic etc. what do you actually mean. Louder, better sound, more feedback resistant a better frequency response?. Always looking for the holy grail but I’m confused with the Bartlett, it doesn’t get mentioned in any of the mic shoot outs. I have a Nadine but was also considering a Neumann KM 185, as I can’t justify a Scheops CMC6 MK41. I study with Larry Grenadier and he uses the Scheops as does Jorge Reoder, Billy Molher and a bunch of other pros. The Grace is the Rolls Royce though.

    Thanks for feedback I love my Chorda G and Oliv D (The Chorda D was a bit flabby but I didn’t give enough time) and Spirocore Weich A & E. Sounds great on my bass. I’m really interested in Gerold Genssler’s strings the Helix looks the obvious choice but the J-Roque has that Israel Crosby, Sam Jones, Paul Chambers vibe and the Rain-Worm is almost the same but bows fabulously.

    I’m mainly a jazz double bassist but I practice a lot of classical pieces Bach, Stravinsky, (solo parts) a piece Xavier Foaley, a couple of Tango pieces and some old Cumbrian folk tunes at home both arco and pizz. I play in an original folk/American band and play a fair bit of arco arrangements with the violinist. I was playing French bow but I have since developed ME/Fibromyalgia and have swapped to German so I can actually hold longer than 5 minutes. I was using EP Weich’s with the Pops and that was great but I wanted a better pizz sound so I have the mixed steel and gut setup. Does that help in terms of suggestions

    Many thanks for that I’ve read loads of reviews but personal recommendations are always the best. Leatherman Rosin looks great, I wanted to try Gaston Brohan Oak Rosin or Arnold Gregorian Oak Rosin but can’t find it anywhere. Kolstein Rosin gets hit and miss reviews, I can’t stand Rosin all over the strings so I’ll give Kolstein a miss.

    Thanks for that!!! I used to use Nyman’s, it’s fine on metal strings or strings with metal wrapping… Plain gut it’s just not cutting it, neither does Pops or Pirastro’s own Rosin.

    Hi Guys What’s the best rosin for a Chorda, Olive and Spirocores with a C-extension. Was using pops till it melted on a window sill…. OK but a bit a uncouth for my tastes. Is there anything that grabs the plain gut and metal wraps with equal aplomb but sounds smooth and rich at the same time????, I need some first world experience here in the UK as a lot of the reviews I read are from the States. Many thanks in advance

    Very cool, I have a UL112 series 2 excellent cab and great value. I also have a UL310 series 2 which is my all time favourite cab for the money. if you get stuck with one let me know.

    What’s it like in IEM’s as I don’t use an amp like these days?, what DI do you use with the SBVT. I did use an NOI Edison valve pre, a Barber Electronics Linden and Audio Kitchen Small Trees Valve DI. Sounded mega but to many pedals to get the sound I wanted. I want something simple that’s fab. The DI in the BassRig and cab simulator was my first choice till I saw the SBVT, Shame it doesn’t have a DI

    Serek Midwestern 2 5 string which is 30” scale. Weigh’s 8lbs 2oz or 3.685 kg. Mahogany body with robust Mahogany neck, 21 fret Pau Ferro fretboard with mandolin frets and 18mm string spacing. Passive electronics vol/pan/tone Nordstrand Z pickups in wired to the clean & clear configuration. Hipshot bridge and tuners with a black/white Deccoboom custom pickguard. Finish in light coatings of Nitro and left open grained. There’s a brown stain on the upper rear horn from the strap I think. Never gigged, never left the house. I got this as I suffering from some sort of autoimmune disease ME/Fibromyalgia. Plays and sounds fabulous with Pitbull strings. Comes with a fantastic Serek (Mono) gigbag. I can ship and take PayPal. Open to sensible offers.

    Thanks mate, had to pack in gigging due ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia and I got all these pedals to build a bass/drums duo but my hands hurt to much. Sold all my standard scale basses… can only play short scale instruments now. It may change if I find a way to cope.
