@CJPJ yeah, I’m totally at ease with it. Agreed to work on an arrangement with a couple of students at school - they can’t believe their head of year is an ex muso. But think I’ll pass the torch to younger Trav (eldest daughter) - not a bad bassist at all.

On bass/bands/gigging etc. I was just mindlessly scrolling through “bass guitar” search on eBay. And the wife said…”oops, is that a box turning up next week?” My response (without much thought) was “nah, no point - sort of given up now haven’t I?” And that didn’t make me feel sad or anything, it just came out and it was a realisation that I have a couple of basses, no amp, no band, no desire to gig…I’ve played for the sum total of time it took me to d*ck about for the composition challenge this month - and the same last month. I’m so lazy with my playing, I don’t do it for enjoyment anymore and I have no aspiration to do any playing - sort of a blanket writers block, but for bass playing. No plans to sell up what’s left, but I haven’t bought anything new for about 8 months which if you know anything about me…has to be a record. Just wondering if there are just people who’ve hit the same wall - I’m sure it’s been covered before. I spend more time floating around bass websites than I do with playing. I suppose a few recent projects falling flat has eased me into this state of “meh”.

That’s the one. Rockets/Brains/Links. All far too complicated for me.

https://soundcloud.com/andy-travis-463973966/texas-toothbrush-massacre well…there are times I take myself too seriously. I’ve sat in my pyjamas with coffee doing this today. The dogs are looking at me funny.

Pickguard is an aftermarket cheapo too.

Inlay stickers - you can buy them on eBay.

Ah how I love the look of ric’s. I had one for a couple of years. I was so scared of damaging it, I sold it. How ridiculous. I didn’t think I got on with the sound, but I listen to a track on an album I did with it and it’s instant regret each time.

More than happy to be wrong. 👍🏼🫡

The Rex T-bird I saw (released at a similar time to gene’s) looked like a GCSE woodworking project. I did post pictures, but for £2k it was pure shite.

Makes me chuckle that GS has had so many signature basses when he barely played on most of the famous Kiss stuff. And there’s that painful video where Carole Kaye is trying to teach him bass. short scale, weird pickup placement and huge pickguard obviously designed to conceal old pickup rout on original. looks good, if you squint.

HOW hard is it to find a decent band to play in these days?
AndyTravis replied to Lfalex v1.1's topic in General Discussion
A recent recording project has even fallen flat, I was 3/4 of the band…so it’s impossible with just 2 people. I’m actually booking vocal coaching and piano lessons. Really have got that far gone 😂 -

I’ve done it for years @Al Krow and i’m tired of herding morons. Not all of them, but you get the idea. -

I’ve also noticed that I’m now out of the “band seeks bass player” age demographic on JMB etc. late 20’s/early 30’s. squarely out of that age range. Also, responding to folk and getting started but petering out quickly. Balls to it. -

Yeah, I’ve stopped looking. that’s how hard it is. -
Bought an ampeg from me - absolutely ace, I ended up injuring myself so there was a delay in shipping. Then the courier was useless. Brilliant throughout - enjoy.

When did you realise….. you weren’t going to “make it”?

They wanted 3 of us, draft in session folk for a “look”… Eric Hall was our “representative” - he was a repugnant individual. I looked upon it as a learning curve. Then Sunday Best offered us a deal and decided to spunk their budget on the rights to David Lynch’s back catalogue and future recordings so we were dropped. So. I left that band and started to be a dad, got married and started living.
