I have written SVT in tipp-ex on my GK head, that should work...
You've done what! Wanton vandalism. Anyway it'll make no difference in this neck of the woods, bumpkin yokel types don't even know their alphabet. Waste of good CORRECTION FLUID.
I hope no-one will be pissed off with me but I am going to finish this thread on Finnbass. It's a sort of bonding gesture http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=6608
Traitor. BTW I can't get that link to work you traitor Oooo look they've got a big Bill Fitzmaurice forum bit! Tempting, tempting. (^I knew that was there already though )
Marvin - it doesn't play that badly, to be honest it needs a bit of setting up. I did the fretwork before I modded the headstock, and built it up to see how it played then & it was quite a bit better than it is now. The neck's moved a bit while it's been off the bass, & also I originally had ugly-looking wood shims in the neck pocket. Having swapped these for acrylic ones, I don't think the neck's sitting exactly the same in the pocket now, probably because wood's compressible & acrylic ain't. The alignment's shifted fractionally too - not a problem with the Schaller bridge, but annoying all the same. The single biggest problem with this bass is the weight - it's starting to make my house subside! J.
Sorry mate, must have read a bit too much into your post. More niggles than bl00dy awful then? I do like the comment on it's weight . It's definitely a looker. All the best.

It's a shame it doesn't play as well as it looks, because it looks really rather nice.
I'm rubbish but it hasn't stopped me going to town!
I suspect that you're much better player than you say are Clarky. Anyway I'm not in a band so anything over one probably wouldn't get used . But who knows what's around the corner
-
Just the one for me. I can't play really, so any more would be sheer extravagance on my part Also compounded by not having enough money to buy anymore or the space to keep them out of the reach of my kids.
I'm not prejudging him here, 'cos I know nowt about him, but... I've just listened to the first minute of that clip - the solo bit, I suppose - and parts of it sounded like a proper mess.....?
Glad I'm not the only one. Much like you WoT I know nothing about him, but I didn't really get much from the beginning. I'm a bit hesitant to criticise well known players as I'm cr@p , but that didn't seem very good to me.

Hartke state what theirs will be at 4 and 8 ohms, for example the HA2500 will produce 180w at 8ohms, according to their website. Which is much more than the 125ish you would expect. This is what made me wonder about the Ashdown. Thanks for the reply as well Geoff.
-
Does anyone know what output you'd get from an Ashdown MAG 300H EVO II Head just going into one 8ohm cab? And the same for the Ashdown Little Giant 350. Their site states the 4ohm output (obviously ) but no figures for 8ohm. Thanks.
Fairy nuff. It was a hard one for him to write, and it's pretty introspective.
I want to like it, occasionally I'll pop it on but then after the first few tracks I reach for the stop button. Still looks good on the CD shelve though I suppose
Fave album - Soul Cages
I used to really like that one, even bought it on the day of release. But I can't stand it now, it always sounds whiny to me. Just my opinion.

Regardless of his bass playing and tuneful songsmithery, I have it on good authority he serves warm beer at his parties. I will have no truck with such a shameful host.

Quiet on BC on a Wednesday isn't it!
-
Right then so far, some credit card bills and a rubber corset. Hmmmm. Clarky, what size is the rubber corset? Wednesdays are quite popular. I always thought everybody practiced on a Thursday because it can get quite quiet on a Thursday evening around here.
I don't think anyone's ever posted a Basschat poll without someone complaining! What about those of us who practice as & when due to gigs, shift work, family, own businesses etc?
Darn it forgot about that. I have modified the poll with an 'as and when option'.

Monday's the begining of the week so that's out. Friday could be a gig, same goes for Saturday (but then again so could a lot of nights but generally you know ) and Sunday, well it's Sunday, I never do much on a Sunday. So that leaves Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for me, well if I was in a band at the mo . EDIT: you can choose more than one night, it's not scientific and I'm not using it for research.

I don't usually like Ricki's but I do like that RV4.

They still sound like something an elderly lady with weak bladder control may wear to me.
Hey, I (sort of) made the cover of BGM!
I'll congratulate you Clarky, if others won't. Well done mate. I suppose I'll have to buy it now, grrrrr On a different note, (ooh pun) it is a little ironic that we have Basschat, which you've got to say it very succesfull, yet no real popular online guitar equivalent. Yet BGM struggles to get a bigger profile. By that I mean when I walk into the major supermarkets say, I can pick up maybe 3 or 4 guitar mags but can't find BGM anywhere. Just the ramblings of a miserable robot

I've consulted my diary and I seem to be busy on the date on the event. Please do pass on my best to the organisers and my apologies for not being able to make it this year. It's just that I've penciled in making placards for ThisNameIsTaken's demo against Jedward arrive on his patch.

Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.
Bang on! Its a Noguera burl spalted maple headless 8 string fretless at the next gig
..and wearing the threads in your avatar Looks like a good gig mate, having fun is what it's all about. Wish I could of made it to yours, instead of what I attended last night. -
All improvised but this is sort of indicative of what we do. The sound is straight into the camera, and a bit iffy to say the least. The bass was on octave divider and auto wah for most of this.
I must admit to have already watching these on your band/myspace site. Good stuff and good to see on BC.

A good welcome to you.

Bassists that sound like guitarists playing bass
I think some aspects of my playing are guitar orientated. I play chords, strum, finger pick 'acoustic guitar' type patterns, tap and play harmony parts for guitar solos. That on top of all the more Bass related techniques on my 6 & 7 string Basses. I make a point of mentioning that, as I have those extra strings there for that reason. So I can make use of other techniques. As with any technique or style - I choose to use it to enhance a song - not to waste time on some ego-boost mission. They are all legitimate techniques and should not just be limited to one instrument. Hell, if I thought it would sound good I'd have a cowbell strapped to my bass! he he! (ok.. I was jokin'... no more cowbell)
That's the key there, anything is valid, even cowbells , if it fits or enhances. -
I'd recommend the Hal Leonard Bass Method by Ed Friedland-especially if you can find the complete edition with all three books in one. It's also spiral bound so will sit comfortably on a music stand, which to me is a big plus.
I got a copy of it from Amazon for about £10. The first book is very much about learning about where the notes are on the fretboard, it's pretty good. I'm not using it at the moment as I found a teacher.
