2.
Would you ship to Belgium. it's BEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTIFUL
Hey Nurze, Unfortunately i'm only willing to ship within the UK. Bump!
3. Cheers Apothem I think the bass was a bit optimistically priced before so now reduced to £700.
4. ***SOLD SOLD SOLD*** 2006 Musicman Stingray 3EQ for sale with original Musicman Hardcase. It's a really nice off-white (maybe cream) colour with a maple neck. I've had this for about 2 years and it is a brilliant bass but I haven't been playing any of my basses recently so figure I may as well sell this since it's going to waste just sitting about in my flat. There is a small chip on the side of the bass which i've tried to show in the pictures and there are a couple of tiny dings here arnd there which are only noticible if you go looking for them. I have recently had the bass checked out by a guitar tech in edinburgh due to a dodgy jack which has now been fixed and everything else is perfect. The bass sounds amazing as you'd expect and I haven't had any problems with the G string that other stingrays have had. I'm looking for [s]£750[/s] £700 or thereabouts and not really up for trades at the moment. Collection from Edinburgh would be ideal or I could deliver at buyers risk and cost. PM me if you are interested / have any questions Cheers Iain
5.
I assume they are not covers?
Nah, it was an originals band and most of the basslines were easy enough to follow - mostly simple riffs which matched the guitar with a fair few root notes thrown in for good measure - so he only had trouble with one of the tunes (Funnily enough the only written by me and not the guitarist!)
How about the good old fashioned way of writing dots on manuscript paper?
Haha, if I could I would but I haven't looked at notation since i played the recorder in primary school
6.
google tuxguitar
Yup, just what i'm looking for. Cheers
7. I recently left my old band (quite amicably) and the new bassist is struggling to pick up some of the bass lines. My old guitarist has asked me if I could put up a couple of videos and sort out some tab for the guy so he knows how to play the songs which I happily agreed to. I've made up the videos but the problem is I can't find an easy way of making the tab without having to go crazy typing numbers! I've googled it and there's some random things that sort of work (mostly with an extra 2 strings) but one of the tunes involves hitting the d string open while at the same time playing about on the g string for a section and I can't find one that lets me show playing 2 notes at the same time. Does anyone else make up tab and know of a nice easy way to do this without all the monotonous typing?
8. Bought a pickup from David which came in about 5 layers of bubble wrap and other assorted packing materials. It was like pass the parcel unwrapping it only to find there was another layer of protection in there! There was no chance anything was getting damaged in the post! Really easy to deal with. Cheers
9.
Originally from the distant future, then! And please tell me that radiator is not on! (sorry - couldn't resist)
Bargain of the century I have to say!! As everyone knows it's vintage instruments that have the high price tag. The older it is, the more expensive. Well mine isn't even built for another 17,997 years so it was dirt cheap! Of course the radiator is on. I live in Scotland. Don't want my poor stingray freezing do I! I give it a hat and scarf at night too! Setriously tho, no, it wasn't on and it doesnt usually live there, was moved there for the photo!
10. got my new phone which has a camera on it so took a couple of photos of my stingray. It's a 3eq 20006 one i believe bought from Fatos (BassKS) here on BC earlier this year. Added some black beauties to it for a bit of contrast but i'll prob revert back to hi-beams after these are done as they tend to rip my fingers to shreds! Here goes my first attempt at adding photies: Edit for finally figuring out how to get photos to show!
11. I used to use my zoom b2 in between my bass and amp as a tone shaping pre-amp type thing when live but that was when I used my warwick streamer std. Sounded amazing at low volume but was a nightmare in a live gig situation. Now i've got my stingray i dont need one which is brilliant. Saying that, i do occasionally borrow my guitardists big muff in practice to play about with
12. Maybe you're being lined up for a "Songs of Praise" special depicting the younger generations take on the scriptures of old!
13. It might be worth looking at flats to rent in certain areas where noise isn't a problem and then just moving flat and moving all your gear into the living room or whatever. Maybe not ideal in terms of space / acoustics but could work out cheap! My mate's band rehearses at the drummer's place. He stays in a flat just above the caves and because the club is directly below they can belt it out at any level they please at any time. Not quite sure how it works with neighbours etc though.
14. Buy the best you can afford is a good idea but remember you need the whole package - an amp and all the little things that add up like cables, straps, a metronome, a tuner etc. My mate got a huge bonus from work and decided to learn the guitar so he went straight out and spent his entire bonus (£1000-£1500) on a shiney nice new electric guitar (can't remember what kind) and then spent £40 on a practice amp cos he'd just blown all his money and couldnt afford anything else. You gotta ask yourself whats the point of badly playing an amazing guitar through an utterly terrible amp! If I were you i'd try for a 2nd hand bass for £300-£350 and spend the rest on a semi-decent practice amp and other wee bits & pieces!
15. It depends. In my band we do about 15 songs and I know the main riffs of all of them but the rest i kind of make up at the time. Still know the 20 odd from my last one too since that ended only a year ago or so. Other than that I've spent far too long as a bedroom bassist so can play pretty much all of the chili peppers songs note for note from Californication onwards off the top of my head (except the intro to Around the World as I can never get the timing right and I can't slap for the ones that need slap). Can also play most RATM, a bunch of muse, strokes, audioslave, a few select rush songs, some beatles etc etc off the top of my head. Short of that if I listen to something a couple of times I can usually pick it up (assuming it's not something rediculously difficult). Would need to learn loads if I joined a covers band though as I mostly stayed clear of "boring" bass lines that make up most pub band repertoires and up until recently hadn't expanded my musical horizons past the indie/rock stuff i've always listened to.
16. Nope, absolutely hate it! I play in an originals punk/grunge type band. Not hugely into punk or grunge but it was originally a favour to a friend whos old bassist was moving to england and i'd just moved to edinburgh so figured it would be a good laugh. The guitarist can't play a regular chord (He just down tunes to D and bars the bottom 3 strings for power chords for all the songs) and the drummer can't keep a beat. Not saying i could do any better but still... All the guitarist wants me to do is play his riffs (much like RATM play the same) or play root notes. Too much effects. A lot of screeching. Terrible. Utterly terrible. Once played a wee place called bannermans. There was a good 50 odd folk there. Within 2 songs everyone left. hahahahaa. Gotta quit soon. Been saying that for about a year now tho haha. Can't quite seem to do it. Just bought a new bass and playing it through the semi decent amps at the practice studio at top volume is too much fun to give up!
17. I've always been a fan of the grolsch bottle seals for my basses but I recently got a stingray and the strap just doesn't like being squeezed into the hard case along with the bass. Has anyone used "proper" straplocks? Are they any good and easy to fit? At least with the grolsch tops I know where I stand - They never come off and I know the only time the bass will fall is if the strap itself breaks. Problem is they are a nightmare to take off so taking the strap off every time I put the bass in it's case is going to be too much of a hassle. My strap is a beastly leather number that is perfect for a heavy bass like the stingray but that makes it pretty difficult to fit into the case when attached to the bass. Anyone got any thoughts?
18.
Cheers - it took me a long time to get the courage up to part with this bass.
I've got this exact bass but in stained blue (and well, mine's pretty battered!)! It's a great bass. I've just gone and bought a lovely stingray from BassKS but there's no chance i'd be selling my warwick. Brilliant tone on these things and an amazing neck! Gotta love the Germans... Anyway, Good luck with the sale!
19. I use media monkey (similar to Windows Media Player) with my cowon s9 mp3 player and i'm pretty sure it has a feature like this as well which will go through all the music on your computer and sort out the volume levels. Not sure how well it works though as most of my music is at the same level anyway! Oh, it's a free program by the way. Worth a try if all else fails.
20. Yup, I used to be a Stirling man too. Only moved through to edinburgh last year. Seems this forum is made up of people who have lived in or around Stirling. I was never in a band in the 7 years I stayed in Stirling but that's prob more to do with the fact I was never pro-active at all. There was never anything going on though short of the same old guys playing their covers in o'neills every month. Edinburgh's better though. Maybe nothing like Glasgow in terms of live music but a good change anyway. I'm back in stirling every now and then too so you should definitely get everyone on here to come to your gigs.
21. Yeah, Kings of Leon bass lines are pretty dull. They work well with the music but they could be a bit more interesting. I'd also add Maximo Park to the list. Their bassist is pretty good and comes out with some great stuff. Good to see indie type music with something other than the usual standard bass lines. I agree with the Mars Volta. Some cracking playing going on there. Definitely give them a good listening.
