What condenser mic would you recommend for home recording? I'd be using it for vocals, acoustic guitar, Double Bass and Sousaphone, so a decent all-rounder would be good. Anything under £100 worth having? Worth shelling out for the next step up? All and any advice appreciated!

The Protec Contego is a great gigbag - had mine for years and it's still going strong. Protection Racket stuff is excellent. As Fretmeister said above, if it was my Bass in the hold, it would be in a Hiscox.

I like my Markbass 101. Sounds good at neighbour friendly volume, DI out for home recording or onstage use, sounds good with Double Bass, speaker out if you need it, headphone out, aux in for jamming along... hard to fault for a home amp. I paid £250 second hand, so within budget.

1994 Ernie Ball Musicman StingRay. Bartolini pickup and Hipshot D-tuner. It's been my #1 since the day I bought it in 1995. Other Basses, bands, friends and dodgy haircuts have come and gone, but this isn't going anywhere. I like all my instruments, but I *love* this one.

If you're buying from a European retailer (that isn't Thomann) email them and tell them you're in the UK. They *should* sell to you without their countries local VAT, as we pay UK VAT when it arrives.

I loved my old Ashdown rig - ABM 500-410h combo and a 15" extension. Sounded great, and more volume than any sane man needs. I only got rid of it cos it took three people to move it. I certainly don't understand the hate Ashdown stuff gets on here. I've plugged into more Peavey amps than I care to recall and OK, they're not hi-fi or boutique, but they can certainly move some air!
