1. Bizarrely, despite having the same frequency range they do sound different! The Sadowsky definitely seems to colour the sound more, when I tried it out there certainly seemed to be a different treble sound (Aguilar was transient and glassy, the Sadowsky was more "grindy"), and the bass was definitely deeper in the Sadowsky which kind of made the scoop more pronounced (this works very well for some people however!). I actually have, always use, and love my Aguilar DB924! I've tried the Tone Hammer since and didn't really get on with it. Didn't like the sound of the mids or the AGS, and even with the same settings (mids cut) I couldn't get it to sound as good as the DB924. Honestly don't think you'll get the sound of the Sadowsky out of the Aguilar!
2. No worries! If it's the Marcus Miller sound you're after, you need the Sadowsky!
3. Again, these kind of have different applications! The Sadowsky and Aguilar are essentially outboard versions of active electronics, that would usually be found inside active bass guitars. The Sadowsky will make your bass sound like a Sadowsky bass, the Aguilar will make your bass sound like one equipped with their OBP preamp (i.e. Spector, Modulus, etc...). The Tone Hammer actually has the OBP-3 box inside when you open it up! The Sansamps however, as the name suggests, are intended to make your plain DI sound as though it's actually being played through an Ampeg stack! More of an amp simulator in that respect. They're definitely different beasts, so it really depends what you want from this type of pedal.
4. How you liking your Maximum Stoverdrive Darren?
5. I've been wanting the Polyphony on the harmony settings for ages! This works really well on the Whammy V, so obviously I assume it will on this. The classic mode also does really well to replicate the disgusting/lovely discordant sounds that occur on the original, when you play a chord through the two octave up setting! Not one to count my chickens, but I'll be picking one of these up straightaway when they launch. I really can't see how it'll disappoint me!
6. Flippin ell, I'm quite excited about this. If anyone's after a Whammy 1, I will be selling mine when this comes out!...
7.
COG TK-421X with LM308
Oh, and asymmetric LEDs too, they're very important!...
8.
Rat Tail's galore over the last couple of boards!
Pffft! Ryan Ratajski's good, but his Rat Tails haven't got anything on the COG TK-421X with LM308! I want to start a revolution!!!
9.
I'm looking at the sansamp para driver & the sadowsky di - is one clearly better than the other?
The Sadowsky doesn't have any amp simulation. It's effectively an outboard version of the active electronics that are found in Sadowsky basses, and its main intention is to turn your passive bass into an active one.
10. Found the isolated bass track here, comes in at 0:16. Definitely a filter/synth pedal on there, but not sure what!...Could be the Deep Impact, Line 6 FM4, Digitech BSW or EHX Bass Balls!
11. I think we probably are, reckon he's only done one...I didn't think he was that far off! The nasal sound of the Animato is definitely seriously present on the original, but there's certainly the "quack" of a filter there! It's always sounded slightly like a Bassballs to me.
12. I think it's had a bit of studio work, but that Wolstenholme mega-fan Kaputsport gets pretty close on his YouTube vid (think it's "Muse Tones 2") and I think he uses OC-2, Big Muff and Human Gear Animato stacked through LS-2 inputs A&B, and the Akai Deep Impact. You might struggle to get that from the B3 unfortunately. ..
13.
Currently in discussion with Tom at Cog Effects............
Btw, I'd recommend a Darklighter/Knightfall and TK-421X combo like mine or TonyXTiger's. It is remarkably good!!!...
14.
FY-2 I think?
Apparently it's meant to be a Lovetone Big Cheese!? I think he only used the Shin Ei on Exit Music.
15.
here's a few
That Jesus Lizard video's brilliant! When he grabs that crowdsurfer's leg
16.
And one more, I find this band a bit hit or miss, but Nick Beard's tone is punishingly punchy
This is a great sound, and from a modded vintage rat as well! Great track, but the rest of the album's definitely pretty lame...Juturna was good though!
17. He uses the Peavey and an Acoustic 450, but THAT sound doesn't come from the Acoustic. John K's example shows that off: http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/Effects/360preamp/360_pedal-01-2.jpg I think it must come from a combination of the two, but I've never heard the Peavey so I'd very much like to!...
18. Aye! I think the distortion that comes from his Peavey F-800B is definitely unique as well, I'd be very intrigued if anyone ever put that preamp into a pedal format!...
19. Last one! This has to be included, purely for the chorus which is still my favourite dirty bass sound ever! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=totYCysea4w
20. Loving this one as well at the moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc6zXSdYXm8
21.
I'm just gonna start this off with a modern dirty bass classic!
Russian Circles FTW!!! Brian has some cracking sounds on this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONzYMVrhTyk Not least the OCD/Volume pedal swells on the intro...
22. Thanks guys! I've contacted Spector customer service, so I'll see what they say...
23. Good stuff :-) He'll sort you out mate!
24.
I'm all about stacking 2-3 drive pedals to get the right character.
Stacking is great, though you'd probably need an ISP Decimator or some sort of noise clamp in there if you do more than two (especially high gain), or they'll scream like a banshee!
