1. Good stuff :-) He'll sort you out mate!
2.
I'm all about stacking 2-3 drive pedals to get the right character.
Stacking is great, though you'd probably need an ISP Decimator or some sort of noise clamp in there if you do more than two (especially high gain), or they'll scream like a banshee!
3. Another vote for the COG Knightfall, and I'm sure Tom could do something with diode selection (like the Knightfall 66) that would give you the gain range you desire! Also, have you ever tried an OCD or Fizzrocious Oh See Demon? Great sounding overdrives that are bright, modern, and can get highly saturated if you desire...
4. Does anyone know!? Just like the ones on this: http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll276/superdick2112/newusabridge004_zpsa316c310.jpg Two have fallen off now, and I got what I thought were replacements off AllParts but they're different and don't fit! Any help will be much appreciated! Al

Pedal power
Diago pedal power £60 ish and never let me down
Same here! There's nothing else as good as the Diago for the price (unless you can find a johnny shredfreak psu anywhere!)...
7. Thanks, that's put my mind at rest! Darth Vader's my dad, so I should be fine on the other count too! :-)
8. So I've been messing around a bit with the TK421 that I got back from Tom (COG). Have replaced the op-amp with an LM308N, which went in fine, but I had a bit of a job getting the 30pf compensation capacitor (ceramic) in there... It's now in the socket securely, but a bit of the ceramic coating flaked off at the top of the legs/below the round bit when I was putting it in! I assume this is ok, and will not affect the performance of the cap, but I just wanted to check with you guys! Can provide pics of necessary, but if anyone in the know could let me know, that'd be great! Cheers, Al
9.
Catalinbread SFT sounds beautifully expressive in a vintagey way but is a bit bass-light
What!?...Have you been adjusting that "Bass" knob at all!? I find that if I turn that past noon I'm in danger of caving the roof in!...Definitely find it can add more lows than my clean signal, have you been using the old or new version? The phase inversion will only be a problem if you run this in parallel, and the SFT does NOT need to be run in parellel! I'm currently going for SFT and COG Darklighter for low/medium overdrive. The Darklighter sounds a lot like my old Fulltone Bass drive did, but with lows still intact! SFT is brilliantly dynamic, mainly used for hammering out RATM riffs at sound check! B3K does high-gain overdrive, I agree that it can get a bit caricaturesque like this but that's what I love about it! Fuzz-wise I'm with Gaz all the way, it's a Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian for me! Ridiculous bass and low-mids out of that thing. Distortion-wise I'm using the COG TK-421x. Recently stuck an LM308 op amp in there, and with Low pass filtered-clean blend and asymmetric LEDs it absolutely kills!
10. I'm pretty sure it'll be very closely based on the current (guitar) whammy 5 though. Tried one of those and thought it was great, and would've replaced my Whammy 1 with it if it had fitted on my board!... At least it doesn't have that awful input gain that the original bass whammy had, which is a huge improvement in itself!
11. Oooooh, what does it do!? And is that image from Metal Gear Solid!?
12. I don't own a hat, but if Akai ever reissue the Deep Impact I'll buy a hat just to eat it.
13. Oh man, this is great news! It'll be true bypass, with polyphony, and the 5th-octave harmony setting. A Tool lover's dream, and bad news for anyone who's trying to flog one of the original ones on eBay for £400! :-)
14. Just got my Signor Gatto back from Tom, after a bit of pimping... All I can say is GOOD LORD!! It's massive-sounding! So pleased :-) And now for the technical details...Tom has applied the mods for his TK-421X, meaning that the "ratty" side of the pedal now sports a clean blend knob, along with a Low Pass Filter knob for the clean signal. This means that the screaming rat gain can now be mixed in with a filtered clean tone for serious low end! I also asked Tom to remove the silicon diodes, and put a three-way switch in to select between LEDs, asymmetric LEDs and no diodes (you'd love this Si! ;-)). Tried it through my Mesa tonight and fell in love!...If the missus hadn't dragged me out tonight, I'd still be playing it! :-D Good work Mr Tom!
15. Just replace it. I've had three Black Russian Muffs before (one version 7 and two version 8s btw!), and two of them literally fell apart. Pretty much all of the clones I tried sounded better anyway!... Get a COG Tarkin! Much better than the Black Russian Muffs, as good as the W&C TFR and a lot cheaper than getting one imported! If my TFR every breaks, I'll definitely replace it with a Tarkin.
16. Joe's pedals have a used MD-2 for sale http://www.joespedals.com/acatalog/Boss_Mega_Distortion.html £35! Bargain...
17.
Too late. You've been made redundant:
It doesn't even play it right! They could've spent the time to program it in correctly!!...Stupid robot bass player, give me a human any day!
18. Get this Fredrics fuzz http://basschat.co.uk/topic/223868-boss-ls-2-and-frederics-green-russian-fuzz/page__hl__fredric__fromsearch__1 and a Digitech Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive (also dirt cheap), and you'll get pretty close to Chris' Animato and Russian muff tone. Maybe buy a Boss LS-2 too, so you can stack the dirt/blend with clean.
19. You know it's a goob bet if JMJ's on the video thumbnail Bjorn Juhl is hilariously insane!
20. I've had a go on the Tone Hammer and Rusty Box, and they have pretty different applications. The TH seemed to be intended to make a passive bass active (I believe it contains their OBP3 onboard preamp in a box, with a buffer to prevent signal loss!?), so works best straight after the bass, whereas the RB seemed to work better when treated like the front end of an amp, near the end of a chain with effects, etc running into it. I currently have an Aguilar DB924 which I use in the former fashion, and a Catalinbread SFT which I use in the latter fashion! Al
21.
i love the swollen pickle! big fat fuzz with loads of bottom! although i do have a tarkin fuzz on the way soon!
And there's the mention of the Swollen Pickle! I wholly agree, I believe AndyDye has the superior Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie B going if you want to get in touch with him!? A superior version of a brilliant pedal...Seriously though, get a Tarkin! You won't regret it!
22. I too have been through a lot of fuzzes, but the TFR is just brilliant. No other pedal has stunned (and destroyed) my bandmates as perfectly as that one!...I think BigBassBob nailed its charm with this description: "The TFR has a special something in the low mids. When I tried it out on a recent gig I could feel the low end punching the back of my knees with each note (pretty much the same as when I was playing clean) while the fuzziness just filled everything else. It was perfect for making the whole band sound bigger." I just know that Tom (COG) could reproduce this though, and with a whole host of potential custom options! He is that good! Agree that fuzz is really down to personal taste though. Listen to the YouTube demos, even though the equipment's not neccesarily the same it'll give you an idea of the character, and there are a lot of pedals currently going in the "For Sale" area (Fuzzrocious Grey Stache, EHX black Russian Big Muff, etc...) that are well within your budget! Besides, as mentioned before, you'll likely be able to sell one on for the same price if you find out it's not for you! Godspeed
23.
Must say - that Tarkin looks pretty nice!
Excellent demo on youtube here from Basschat's Hamfist, mids knob means you'll never get lost in the mix! Personally I totally love my Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian, but they're hard to get hold of in the UK at the best of times, and cost a bit more than £100 unfortunately. If it ever goes down properly though (recently had to get get footswitch replaced, after it broke at a gig and was stuck on for a whole song! ), I know I'll be replacing it with a Tarkin!
24. If I was you, I'd pick up a COG Tarkin. You won't get better for the price!
