1. For that kind of money, I'd look at the Dod OD-250, Joyo Ultimate Drive (Fulltone OCD clone) or Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive. All do nice mild overdrive and tubey, albeit in different ways!
2.
Andertons had end of March - but I got another email afterwards saying May. So it's totally confusing.
Now Andertons are saying end of February!... It's not like I'm checking that website every day or anything!
3. It's definitely fretless, played with a pick. Here's the isolated bass track on youtube. Recorded with a 1978 fretless Precision apparently!
4. I'm sure someone on here found a Sandberg in a Cash Converters for about £200 or something!?...That would be a good day! :-)
5.
The HPF is to give a little nasal sound if possible. Aiming for an animato type sound.
Well, defo let us know how that works out. I've been looking to get the Animato sound for ages, without actually having to fork out for an Animato!
6.
I've also got a new unit on the way, which was the brain child of my brain and imagination going wild, and Tom assisting heavily! It's the GREY FUZZ?! (no affiliation towards the stache!), but not so much of a nod but a full blown point at Grey Fox from metal gear (Cyborg Ninja). It will house 2 fuzz circuits (TK-421-x and Grand Tarkin) with HPF and LPF on the TK and usual tone controls from the Tarkin. It will have 3 inputs over all (in TK, in Tarkin, In clean) but can be ran with one cable into a single input (and both circuits work!). The 3rd input will have a feed from after my tuner (before oc2) into another octave/compressor and just be insane.
Get photos up as soon as you receive this! Sounds fantastic Just to make you feel even better about the TK-421-x I've just sold a Rat Tail on to our guitarist, having picked one up from Joe's a couple of weeks ago so I could compare with the COG and my old Turbo Rat. The COG destroys the Fuzzrocious! Bizarrely the Rat Tail was my least favourite of the three...Don't know if it's the tin-can LM308 but quite an excessive top-end roll off, and I found the clipping on the highs to be a bit brittle and fizzy? Just couldn't get that "Clank" out of it on the low-gain settings, which is what I love about the original and the COG. The clean LPF/blend on the COG is just ingenious, makes it SO versatile! I'm very intrigued about the HPF on yours
7. I use the Diago Patchfactory stuff. Solderless, low profile, reasonably priced and very reliable.
8.
eeenvy! I must try a reverb on my board this year
Well, I very nearly bought a Blue Sky, but couldn't quite stretch that far and it wouldn't fit on my board! The Neunaber's certainly recommended though! It's not hugely versatile, only does a plate type reverb but it does it amazingly well! Just a beautiful decay...I spent most of my "working from home" day today producing sounds that would make Eno proud!
9.
awesomeness how is the 'verb with the TFR???
Cheers Gaz! As you know, the TFR sounds great with anything! It's HUGE through the Neunaber though, of course some octave down from the Whammy helps too!
10. Have you seen the Subdecay Starlight Quantum or DLX? Never tried one, but they look incredibly versatile and intriguing!...
11. Recent Updates! Just ordered a Polytune mini which I hope will fit on the side :-s...
12. Congratulations to Mr Tom/TGFlatline are in order I think! COG Tarkin has the vote from Hischke, Alderete and JMJ, amazing stuff :-)
13. Having had the chance to compare both directly, I think there's absolutely no discernible difference! A lot of people think the change from the big unit's 24v psu to the small unit's 9v makes a difference to the tone, and that the big unit's "juicier" sounding...The big one is so much noisier though, I think that it's just this playing with people's heads! ;-) Worth noting that some units kept the 24v psu when they moved to the XO version, as it was necessary for operation, so I'm sure that Mr Matthews would've done the same for the BMS if it was really required!
14. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224784-boss-dd-3-digital-delay/page__pid__2308396#entry2308396 PauBass never sold his DD-3, maybe make him an offer? And do more instrumental bits! ;-)
15. I know that's cheap, but a lot of people on TalkBass are saying they're a bit dark and muddy, which is what you're trying to avoid isn't it? I personally reckon you could get something loads better and more versatile for just a little more dough... Might be worth trying to get hold of an Akai Headrush v2 if you like BC/Russian Circles. Great digital and analog delays, tap tempo and a great functional looper!
16. From the YouTube vids it sounds like it might be a bit "murky" on bass...Brian Cook has one though so can't be too bad! He does use his Akai Headrush loads though.
17. topheteatwo, if you need a basic delay that'll work for bass you can't go wrong with a Boss DD-3 (think there's one in the For Sale section at the minute), or if you need tap tempo get a TC Flashback (has an ingenious tap tempo. When you hold the bypass button down and play notes in rhythm, it adjusts to the tempo!). Both can be had for a reasonable amount, and both will do the job well!
18. Thanks Dannybuoy :-) BOOM! I've ordered from Joe's, and it's on its way. Can't wait to try it on my solo set on Monday!...
19. How's the Providence Marsy?
20. If I didn't have my COG I'd definitely pick up an Alpha Dog! Brilliant rat clone with diode selection, which many prefer to the Fuzzrocious offering!...
21.
I have a Strymon Timeline and a Boss DD6 on my board at the mo. I'd never do without the Timeline now, it's incredible for ambient stuff, crazy sounds can come out of it beyond just the usual delays!
The Strymon stuff is just ridiculous, but not cheap!... I had a few (Boss DDs, Akai Headrush, TC Flashback) before I settled on the El Capistan. "Tape echo" would probably put most bassists off, but I cannot articulate exactly how beautiful, lush, warm and (most importantly!) clear it sounds! I've been in love with it ever since
22. I'm saying what I've got at the minute! http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h241/albakio/20131104_225429.jpg Some kind of pitch-shifter/octaver, fuzz (green muff type), distortion (rat type), vintage and modern sounding overdrives, some kind of filter, chorus/flanger, and finally delay/echo/reverb... All essential, to get the job done properly!
23.
I have a TB500 arriving today and the pedal should be here tomorrow!!
I was listening to Converge earlier, and that combo's got Nate Newton written all over it! You'll be deaf come Monday
24. Ah man, that Rat King's gonna make the ODB3 look like a joke pedal! :-D
25. With regards to the Rat King, latching or momentary only applies to the feedback loop btw, not turning the distortion on or off!
