A more modern and British sounding SVT-2 Pro is how I’d describe it when I heard one. Certainly not a bad amp at all. Not sure of the going rate on them though
-
I notice a couple of people recommended the AD200B. Conveniently, I’ve just listed one for sale..
-
So, it’s one of those grail amps; the AD200B. I won’t explain the specs behind it, because the Orange website will do it far better than I can. This one was UK made, in 2008. It was owned from 2008-2018 by the Canadian band; Cancer Bats. It was their EU touring rig, and lived in the U.K. and was used by them heavily during that period. They (being good Canadians) also lent it out to a few Canadian bands who came over for EU tours (PUP to name but one). At the tail end of 2018, Cancer Bats swapped to the Orange OB1 for ease and this AD200B became surplus. I bought it from their EU tour manager, who’d been keeping it on their behalf. Living such a lifestyle meant that the amp picked up quite a bit of mojo, but it was recently professionally serviced by my local valve amp repair centre and given a clean bill of health. So while it may look a tad worn on the outside, internally it’s all good! This was an impulse purchase for me. I’d been planning to open a music venue last year, and I bought this with the intention it would have become the house bass amp. Alas, coronavirus hit and it’s safe to say I won’t be able to make my venue dream come true any time soon as a result. As such, time to face reality and shift it. A google search shows that the price for one of these new is currently about £1500-1700 depending on the retailer. You also get the custom fit wheeled flightcase (in matching orange obviously), which would cost about £300 on its own, making it about a £1800-2000 package. I am asking for £900 £600. What a steal right? Collection from Surrey, or I meet you somewhere around the M25 or south east.

How much of the Ampeg sound is the amp and how much the cab?
Bankai replied to la bam's topic in Amps and Cabs
There was a period of a few years post 2000 (can’t remember the exact year) onwards where Ampeg still manufactured in America but used chipboard for the cabinet. Any from that era are generally disliked and thought of as dark sounding. After they went overseas, they went back to plywood and the issue went away. -
That’s the ticket

A fellow Riedel signature owner I spy
-
Having played a DB751, I can unreservedly say the Aguilar!
-
What if I told you that it’s loaded with KT88s instead of the usual 6550s.. Making the great, even better!

In my 10+ years on this forum, I’ve seen countless members remark that if only they were younger and had a better back, they’d be running X or Y rig. I therefore feel it is my civic duty as a 28 year old with a functioning spine, to own such a rig. Sadly it’s consigned to a storage unit at the moment because COVID. I present you a ‘97 USA made SVT-II Pro, complete with a battered USA made SVT-810E. Yes, it truly is what dreams are made of.

That’s exactly why

Tonehammer with a Barefaced Super Twin?
-
Since trying a VM4 ten years ago, it’s the Bass I’ve sought after ever since. And when I looked at them all that time ago I decided I’d want a hardcore aged black with black hardware. Fast forward to now, and they happened to bring out exactly that as an off the shelf model in the form of the Reidel signature. Perfect! And it’s a bonus I really love that band! I dropped an audio sample of it in this thread a few pages back.
-
I have the VM4 Reidel which has them fitted as standard. Would recommend!

Radial JDX Reactor goes to 300W. That’s the highest one I know of.
-
If that’s the V4B it’s only 100W
-
If you want to spend the money, something like the Radial JDX would be great. It sits between the power amp and the speaker cab, and can take up to 400W, and has both cab simulation for both guitar and bass guitar built in. That way you capture the full flavour.
-
Negative, I’ve always used it this way. It’s heavy enough that there was no risk of it moving.
-
I wonder the same. Would love to give it a go but given the cost and that my amps are currently full of perfectly working valves I feel a lottery win is in order before I can justify it
-
How much space do you have? Transport issues? Can you accommodate a big cab or would you prefer lightweight/small? I’d be recommending the Barefaced Retro 210S, unless you can take the larger Barefaced Retro 610.
-
There must be something wrong with the SVT-2 to go for that price! Edit: I had a look through and they’ve got loads of second hand stuff in cases branded as ‘Terminal Studios’. I’m guessing it’s a backline company that’s folded and RT got the lot. That explains it
-
I’d happily bring my pair out to play. I’ve never made it to a bass meet so will have to resolve that when the time comes that we can run such events again!
-
Yes, the drive is on the amp. No effects, no modelling, etc. It’s a mid-90s Ampeg SVT-II Pro running KT88s. Tone settings as shown in the photo, and running into the BF 210S.

I made a recording of the Riedel for anyone wondering how the Black Labels can sound. I appreciate a large component of the tone you'll hear is the valve amp this was recorded through, but it gives you an idea hopefully. Bass was used in passive mode. Sounds stonking if I do say so myself. Defiant Bass.m4a
