1. Hi Mate, I've got a XL9 myself that doesnt look a million miles apart from the XL24, mine is more like a BC Rich warlock style body though, has the same machine heads, bridge and similar woods, dimarzio pickups but mine are P style and a few more swtiches on mine but I'd imagine the sound wouldnt be miles apart. They sound really great, very funky sounding bass but can get lots of different tones from them, they play really well as well mines a 20fret version so a fairly short neck and really easy to play. From questions I've had as I'm selling mine on here it seems that quite a few of them suffer from issues with the neck not being straight so I'd imagine thats the biggest thing to lookout for. Obviously with them having a aluminium neck they suffer from neck dive but I've never found mine uncomfortable to play. I hope some of this helps.

Ok recently I've had somebody asking about shipping the Bass rather than collection and have had a bit of a rethink. Although Ideally I would prefer collection, I would consider posting but.. arranging the courier would be down to the buyer and would not want to be responsible for any damage incurred during shipping. I would still much prefer collection though not just due to having to worry about the bass being posted but also because I would rather somebody come and see and play the bass and be 100% happy before handing money over.
  3.
You'd have hoped that all that extra metal on the outside of the Superfly would act as a heatsink... But obviously not. I'll carry on using mine for rehearsals where transport space is limited, but when it dies it'll be in the bin and I'll be looking for something small that's been built properly.
One word... Mark Bass well actually thats 2 words but you know what I mean, they're small lightweight, loud, sound good and reliable.
  4.
How is Markbass better than Ashdown, except it works after you left it out in the rain. WTG. Fact: Kirk Douglas played an Ashdown, beat that.
Hmmmmm Michael Manring? lol oh and Jeff Berlin

    Bass sound clips

Cool I'll have to give that a try sometime, still would love to hear what a status sounds like though, I love the look of them. Anyone want to give me theirs? lol.
That's weird. I just tried changing the title of one my threads and it worked ok. You definitely went for full edit rather than quick edit? Maybe shoot Machines a PM and see if he can change it for you.
Yeah definitely went to full edit, could be me doing something wrong, who's machines? lol
  8.
Last time it was at a pub in nottingham. Worth going to, budgetbassist organised it as I recall. We should do it again really.
Yeah that would be good, preferably in Nottingham again lol, as I don't drive and live in Notts.
  9.
You should hang on until the next BC Bass Bash. You'll find far more interesting bass stuff there than at a trade show.
BC show?, when does that normally happen and where and what happens? lol, I might do both lol.

  11. I've just had a look and stumbled across Bass Day 2009 in Manchester which looks good, think I'm going to go anyone else going? lol. Not sure if I should start this as a new toppic.
  12. I was just wondering if there is a show for guitars, bass's, drums etc in the UK a bit like the NAMM one as I believe thats held in America.

Ho do I edit my title to show the price reduction, does anyone know? lol
  14. I was just wondering is there anywhere that holds soundclips of various bass's?. See I've wanted for some time to hear what a status bass sounds like for instance, the only place I've really found is youtube where you face 2 problems 1. Most of the time the sound quality is very poor due to the way its been recorded and secondly you tend to find that a lot of the vids are just covers of other famous artist associated with the brand. e.g. nearly every status bass clip I find is someone playing level 42 stuff and trying to achieve a mark king sound or you search for Wal and they are all duran duran covers or tool.
Beans are GREAT for rough gigs. You can swing the neck round to knock people back, keep playing and know it'll be fine (I saw Albini do just that at the Forum last year). Have you thought of giving this a shot on eBay? Kramers often do well there.
Lol yeah it is a sturdy piece of kit, I've considered ebay but would rather avoid it, for 1 there's the ebay fees, and secondly I'd want collection only as I wouldnt feel comfortable posting something like this which would kind of limit the market for one, and dont want to risk it not hitting its reserve and then owing ebay money for something I've not sold. I know my Brother wants it and he was interested when it was £500 just he cant afford it for a while so if all else fails I'll just save it for him, but in honesty could do with the cash sooner rather than later.

Ok I've had a look around, and it seems there's some tough competition at the minute and times are very hard with money etc. With that in mind I'm going to drop the price to £450, if it doesn't sell at this I know I will probably keep it for now and sell to my brother as I know he would love to own it, but ideally I could do with the cash now. As said before any questions are welcome and if you need pics of specific bits of the Bass I am happy to take them, and anyone is more than welcome to come and play it to see what they think.

  18. Oh Man I would absolutely love a Wal bass if only I had the money, maybe one day lol. Have a bump on me
  19.
It appears to be fine now. I've been using it all week for practice and took it to rehearsal last night and it performed without any issues. However I know what you mean about brand confidence. Luckily this is just a backup for my main amp (Tech Soundsystems Black Cat - a serious piece of kit), but if I'd known about the reliability issues when I'd originally bought it even the friendly price of £199 wouldn't have enticed me. I'll continue to use it until it dies permanently, but I doubt that I'll ever buy another piece of Ashdown equipment again.
I've got a Mark Bass combo now and I can't fault it, stood up to everything thrown at it so far, I can't praise them enough. I do wonder if the higher end ashdown stuff is better though.
  20.
ITYF the knuckle-dragging members of the band are drummers.
Lol am I playing the wrong instrument then?
  21. I had one of the ashdown mini stacks an mine just stopped working during a rehearsal but never came back to life again, I spoke to the shop where I got it from and they were really good and replaced the head very quickly and it packed in again not so long after this time during a soundcheck for a gig and the other band was supposed to be using my amp as well, needless to say I wasn't impressed and the other band had to drive back to where ever they came from and pick their amp up and we all had to use his instead. I took it back and got a refund this time and to be honest I'm not sure I'd ever touch another ashdown amp again, which is a shame as they've got a nice sound. I would of understood if I'd had the volume up full and was giving it hell but it was only on at a fairly low volume both times. I don't know if its an issue with just the cheaper stuff or across the board but it certainly put me off.

    Morning

Lol I never really took to the Thunderbird Basses, although I do think white is a nice colour, I prefered the SG style basses EB's I think, now one of those in white would look seriously nice me thinks.
  23.
I've previously owned a 5-string bass, and quite frankly I never really saw the point of it. Sure, you can now go down to a low B (and the all important low D), but I seem to find myself coping quite well with only a low E. Also, due to the thickness of the string, I don't think I'd ever find myself playing on say the 8th/10th fret of the B string in preference to the 3rd/5th fret of the E string. I've also previously owned a 6-string, and again while I didn't make too much use of the low B string, I did find myself using the high C string a lot more - to reach the higher notes, to strum some chords, and to allow me to access higher notes without having to move my hand up the the fretboard. So my questions are: - from a technical/contsruction perspective, is there any reason why an EADGC tuning wouldn't work? - for those of you who own a 6, what value do you get from the low B string? Thanks in advance, Mark
As far as I'm aware EADGC tuning is fine on a 5 string, I believe there's people who already do this. I cant see it creating any technical problems in fact without the big fat B string will probably be less hard on the neck, obviously you'd probably have to make adjustments to the setup, e.g. truss rod etc. Only main problem I could think of would be the nut as obviously you E string would go where your B string would of been and the gap for the string in the neck may be wider with it being designed for a B and obviously the same all the way down for the other strings if that makes sense.
I have a question..... what are all the controls for? I squinted at the catalogue but couldn't read it! haha!
Ok lol here goes.. 3 Way Activator Mini Switch - Controls which pickup is affected by the 6 position rotary switch. Position 1 (up) activates Rotary Switch with from pickups Position 2 bypasses Rotary switch, Position 3 (down) activates Rotary switch with rear pickup. Other switch is just a 3 way pickup selector switch so front, both and back. Chicken head switch is the 6 Position Rotary switch, When used in conjunction with the 3 way activator mini switch, it provides a selection of 6 different tonal choices for each pickup. Sounds like a contour switch. The 4 knobs are front pickup volume, from pickup tone, rear pickup volume and rear pickup tone. And last switch is a Rear pickup tone switch/Front pickup tone switch, these switches change the pickups from a deep humbucking sound in the up position to a biting single coil sound in the down position. Thats what the catalogue says anyway in a nutshell, enough switches and knobs to keep you entertained for hours lol. Bet you wish you'd never asked lol.
That is fantastic & I want it. Only wish I could afford it... Jon.
I don't think anyone can at the minute, good old government hey lol
