1.
I live 5 minutes away, it is a superb place. High end basses galore, but you will be disappointed if you are going there for a P bass
I properly hate fenders, so I'll be fine in that respect, credit card is being left behind and girlfriend is coming with me to keep me sensible lol
  2. I'm going to pop down to bass direct today in Warwick as I realized it's only about a 30 minute drive from the girlfriend's, anyone else been? They've got a Wal, I've always wanted to try one, I'm so excited but I really hope I don't like it lol.
  3.
I've used Tru oil on a Shergold neck and it gave a great finish after only a few coats I gave it a satin type finish on the reverse and a glossier finish on the headstock fascia. I used cheap paper coffee filters to apply it as it's easier to control.
Never thought of that, different to using a rag to apply, could be worth a go

Oh yes, lot's of stuff seems to be from the US at the minute including the emg pre amp system I want but postage and customs charges is a bit of a killer usually
  5.
I've just completed my HiFi, choosing to go down the 'old but good and cheap from eBay' route. -Meridian 207 CDTransport/DAC/Preamp -Quad 306 power amp -Linn Kan speakers The Meridian comes with the superb old school massive metal remote. I'm loving this combination, all for less than £400
Crikey you did alright there, I managed to get a pair of cheapy Mordaunt shorts for a fiver from a charity shop and have got to say am fairly impressed, also got hold of a pair of old monitor audio's cheap a little while ago from cash converters that I passed on to my brother, great sound for such little boxes. I think I want some floor standers for my next speakers though
TalkBass has a few reviews posted. All positive. Got a soft spot for Washburns myself. Good prices to be had for buyers too.
Yeah from what I've seen when they do show up they seem to go fairly cheap, just finding one in the first place and having some cash at the same time lol
  7. I'll keeping an eye on this one, I love speakers, keep promising myself some Rogers DB101's when I find some in the right colour and have the spare cash
  8. Just curious to if anyone has got one or owned one?, I really like the look of them and from the very few clips I could find on youtube sound nice, I've owned a XB400 and was a really good bass, just wondering what peoples opinions are,
  9.
Now I do feel like a fool, in my honest opinion I do not know where to go in light of this. In my head I would love to make this playable but if it is flawed then there isn't much point. I guess my best option is to take it to a luthier and them to see it in person.
I reckon it's not going to hurt to take it to a Luthier and have them take a look, looks like the fundamentals are there, nut seems to be in a bit of an odd place though, either way nothing to lose and everything to gain
  10. Ah makes sense, to be honest no idea what wood the body is on my Ibanez, wood is too soft for Ash and
  11. Hi all again, I'm full of questions recently, I know when doing clear or transparent finishes on bodies that most woods require grain filler so that the lacquer etc doesn't sink into the grain however, with me painting the main part of my bass in a solid colour do I still need grain filler or will primer do the job? or does it depend on the wood? Cheers for any help again
Not seen that style before (maybe I don't get out much) It looks good. You've done a neat job there.
Think if I remember rightly they are an after market telecaster jack socket but an internal one, just very much like the look and style of it, thanks I'm really pleased at how it turned out, still a way to go yet though lol
  13. Cheers everyone, I think Tru Oil is the look I'm going for so will get some sorted, that's a really nice Stingray you've got there Bolo
  14. Thanks for all the responses, a fair bit to think about, seems like briwax is a winner wax wise for protection, don't suppose any body that has used oils above on maple have got pics so I can get an idea?
  15.
Colron natural Danish Oil, from B&Q is the stuff you need. It's a piece of cake to work with and gives a great, durable finish. make sure it's the "natural" version with no stain in. I have done one maple neck and several other wood bodies with this. The maple neck darkened a fraction, but very minimally. I don't think you will get anything which will not darken it at all. It was a great finish for the neck BTW. I did a thin Briwax coating over it. It gave a lovely satin, "high quality" feel to it.
Cheers, brilliant stuff I shall give that a go then, how's the briwax to work with?, I've tried beeswax and that was pretty good but pretty messy and takes some doing, nice when it's finished, hardened and buffed though. That a Green Terror in your avatar by the way?
  16. Thought it would be worth asking in here, I want to oil and possibly wax my bass neck as I'm going to leave it natural, it's a 3 piece maple and the 2 sides have a bit of nice flaming on them, what I'd like to do is use an oil that doesn't darken the wood too much, I've tried and got some linseed oil but seems to darken wood a fair bit, however I've not tried it on maple so far just ash and a few other softer woods. I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that musicman use gunstock oil on their necks not sure if this is true or not but have noticed their maple necks seem to remain light. Any ideas anyone from people with experience, pics would of course be even better if anybody has oiled maple.
  17. Ah man I'd kill for a cheap/free bass amp right now, had to sell mine due to lack of funds and now having to use the PC :-( too far away though, hope someone makes use of it
  18.
Ah right, fair enough! I would choose the Warwick in that case
Any reason out of curiosity? think my biggest issue with the warwick is the price but I've had a Warwick before so know they are good
  19.
The Warwick bridge is set into the body so you will need to significantly modify the body of your bass. It is just a matter of drilling new holes for a Mono bridge so much simpler. Incidentally, I love the Warwick bridge but I cannot remember ever seeing one retrofit to a non-Warwick bass due to the routing involved. Any reason why you are only choosing between those two? Many, many bridges out there, I rather like the Schaller 3D type.
To be honest mainly on looks, I would like something separated rather than a big lump of metal like the original Ibanez, routing doesn't bother me in the slightest though and think the mono rails sink in as well so would need to route for those as well
  20. Soo trying to decide on what to get bridge wise to replace the standard bridge on my Ibanez and thought it was worth asking peoples opinions here, anyone tried both? any pros or cons to both? I've had a Warwick bridge on a Warwick before but never tried the mono rail type ones. I like the look of the mono rail and they are far cheaper that the Warwick ones but not sure about adjustment etc on the mono rails. As always any feedback help would be appreciated.
  21.
Optima golds were the only strings I bought for a few years. Loved them on my MIM Jazz and also the US Jazz. I still wouldn't have any other string on the Jazz just because they sound and play really good to me. But..... I stuck some on the Corvette, and it has absolutely killed it. Sounds terrible, and for some reason I cant get a good setup on the bass with them. Only thing that sounds good on the Warwick to me is Warwick EMPs.
Cheers that's a great help, at least I know they can sound good, means a bit of a gamble though with what they will sound like on the Ibanez, only one way to find out I guess
  22. You could try this one, I've added it recently and seems to be a fair bit of bass stuff that comes up. Not sure if that's the right way of getting to the page, let me know if it isn't https://www.facebook.com/groups/399985090070309/
  23. I'd love to come but got the little one that weekend and assuming little ones are not being brought along lol

Well here we go, had to lots of faffing but got there in the end, filed the threads to the jack socket slightly, re bored the hole in the bass for the jack socket to fit into and all fits nicely, I really like the way it looks over the stock jack.
