White's a nice colour, think the tortoise shell would look better, I nearly brought a orangish coloured Japanese Precision as my first bass but ended up buying a Ibanez instead. Think if I was going to have a fender bass it would either after to be sonic blue or white lol.
  3. Thats a beautiful bass mate, saw one of these when I went to get my warwick and it was £ over a grand second hand in the shop so a bargain price, they play and sound fantastic. Good luck with the sale mate, have a bump on me.
  4.
This really appeals to me but I'd have to wear platform boots with glitter on to play it

ouch ! philistines ! you know you're a bassist when: your girlfriend can tell the difference in tone between your jazz bass before and after you've fitted a badass...
Lol I like that. When your arms are so long your fingers are nearly level with your kneecaps?

Lol now that would be a good idea, or just buy and buy and buy without the selling bit. You never did say what colour you'd have a Japanese precision in if you could?

Lol and some star shaped glasses like Bootsy, thanks for all the nice comments so far. It's a lot of Bass for the money especially when you consider its all top branded stuff with the pups and hardware etc.

Its early 80's I believe, the sound is really good with a great range of tones with all those controls. I did some recordings with it in my old band and sounded great on those. Is that your Wal in the avatar, I've always wanted to try one, I love the sound of them only trouble is I'd probably have to sell a kidney or something to ever own one lol.
Made in japan, japanese precision The warwicks are growing on me though! if i had all the money in the world for a bass.. id probably still get a precision.. but id shop around loads and find the one that i liked the best. and it wouldnt be top of the range either. Z x
Ah what colour would you have it in?, no I know what you mean when lookint at the prices of some of the custom shop warwicks they're scary, infact when I went to buy mine there was another one the same as mine other than body shape and a fancy top but was twice the price of mine, it did look very nice but I'm not paying twice as much for a bass that does the same thing just because its got a pretty top lol. Would definately have to be a Wal for me I think, I quite like the look of status bass's as well but never had the chance to play one of those either or hear what they sound like.
nah.. you dont need big hands.. you just adapt and i was lookin at the 4s anyway lol. Im just really into more classic looking basses. precisions especially. im after a white MIJ precision Z x
MIJ Precision? whats one of those without sounding too stupid?, yeah it was the looks of warwicks that kept making me avoid them but when it came to its sound and the way it played won me over, I was gutted because I really quite liked the idea of a stingray lol, I've always preferred a jazz to a precision especially if its good and battered and worn. I think if I could have any bass though and had the money it would have to be a Wal, I'd sooo love one or even the chance to just pay one to satisfy my curiosity as they sound pronominal.
  14.
You walk into a music shop and pretty much straight back out again because they only had 1 bass, and you were still lucky to see that.
Now that is far far too true lol. When your twiddling about with your eq to get the best possible sound to suit the acoustic environment of the room your playing in and the guitarists are only interested in 1 control on their amps and thats the volume.

I'd been wanting a warwick for ages, well that and a stingray I was a bit torn lol. I came to trying a few warwicks, a stingray and the Billy Sheehan signature but went with the Warwick jazzman. Your time will come for one lol, took me years to get one. You don't need that big hands for a Warwick 5 string I dont think, mind you I think the ESP 6 string I want next is alright lol.

Hi, I thought it was about time I came in here and said hello after me posting lol. I've been playing bass now for about 10years ish and currently playing in a pop/rock/acousticy type band I think would be the best explanation. I've currently got a Warwick Streamer Jazzman, a Ibanez SR800 currently in bits and a Kramer XL9 thats for sale in the sale section to make way for a 6 string ESP 6 string. Oh and I play through a Mark Bass mini cmd121p.
  19. I've not tried any of the other combo's you've mentioned but I own a mark Bass mini cmd121p and havn't got a bad thing to say about it. It's the size of a 14" portable pretty much and weighs about the same and the sound that comes out of it is crazy. Everyone is always amazed when they see how small it is and what volume manages to come out of it not to mention the quality of sound. Infact my singer/guitarist in our band is a bit jealous I think and wishes they made a guitar version, and somebody I went to audition for text me after I'd said his band was not for me asking what the make and model was of my bass amp were so that the new bass player they'd got could go and try one. Give one a go mate I think you'll be impressed.

Ok so here it is, I've put another post on here in gearporn but am now putting it officially for sale in the erm sale section lol. Here are some pics for the sec and a bit more info that I've found from Vintage Kramer forum. I'll take some better pics later and post them on here. The bass is in really good condition other than a few minor issues, 3 of the plastic knobs need replacing as they have broken, there is a small chip or mark in the lacquer right next to the control plate on the back and the worst bit but a fairly easy fix is that the 9 volt battery clip wire is broken so taped together as a temporary measure, all it needs is a new standard 9volt battery clip and wire soldering back to the circuit board, unfortunately I do not have a decent soldering iron and am not particularly good at soldering or I'd of done it myself. Any questions please feel free to ask, and anybody genuinely interested are more than welcome to come and try the bass and take a good look at it. I also have the original flight case for this but unfortunately has been kept at my mum and dads due to lack of space and they are smokers. T^he bass plays and sounds beautifully, the only reason I am selling is because I've now got a warwick which is much lighter for stage use and can't see me using the Kramer much now and dont think its right to be sat in a cupboard doing nothing, also I need the space and money for a 6 string bass I've seen. Anyway enough of my waffling, oh price I want for it is £500 which I think is fair due to its rarity and condition.

Oh I just realised I missed out answering alembic's question, the knobs and switches seem to do alsorts its a bit strange. obviously you've got volume, bass mid and trebble on the main knobs, the chicken head switch seems to be a contour but that only does anything when one of the other switches is on. The thing is just when I think I've got it figured out you flick a switch and then that will change something else. I've owned it years and still dont understand it all lol.

Hi, the pots themselves are fine its just the plastic knobs, they were never very sturdy unfortunately. The neck seems nice and straight to me and plays well, its only issues really are that obviously 3 of the knobs are missing, there's a small mark in the lacquer near the control plate if I remember rightly and the biggest issue but fairly simple is that the wire for the 9 volt battery snapped at some point so is now taped back together but just needs a new normal 9 volt battery clip and wire soldering back to the bored, unfortunately I don not have a decent soldering iron myself. I also have the original flight case but has been kept and my mum and dads and unfortunately they are smokers. I asked about a price earlier in another thread, which the kind person from Notts gave me some advice on, I wouldn't really part for it for any less than £500 to be honest as for its age its in excellent condition other than the minor details mentioned. Your more than welcome to drop by and come and have a look at it and have a play if your interested in it. I live in Notts.
  23. Some pics of my Kramer XL9, unfortunately the quality is rubbish as they were taken ages ago on a camera phone, I'll take some more from my proper camera soon and post them> I've never seen another one of these other than on the Kramer forum. It will more than likely going up for sale in the sale section soon too so anybody interested let me know.
  24.
Nearly everything you need to know about aluminium neck Kramers here. Does yours have the crown inlays or just dots? Crowns are definitely more desirable. It would be great if you could post some pics either here or start a thread in the porn section. I own a couple of Kramers myself - a 450B and a KXB10 both of which were bought in the last couple of years and both under £300. It was while refurbishing the 450B that I discovered just what a difference getting the neck nice and shiny made. Before it looked like an old bass. Simply polishing up the metalwork made it look almost brand new:
Yeah its the one with 2 P style pickups, badass bridge, schaller machine heads, more knobs and switches than a red dwarf prop and crown inlays, think the pickups are dimarzios as well as standard on these, oh and a circuit board that looks like it belongs inside a computer. I'll try and get some pics up when I get home. Might try and put it on here, metal necks and kramer forum as suggested and see how I go lol.
  25.
A tricky one. It will depend very much on the condition. The serious prices for aluminium-necked Kramers are for those that are in completely original and un-damaged condition. Things that will bring down the value more than anything are the condition of the neck. Although the aluminium necks are not supposed to bend, they do, and putting that right involves shipping the instrument to one of the few people in the US with the equipment to a proper job and it's not cheap. Also watch that the inserts on the back of the neck are still properly in place. The XL9 isn't really any more top-end than the 450B it's just a later model. They don't come up for sale very often so that could be in your favour, especially if it's in an unusual colour (not natural or black). Prices for aluminium neck Kramers go all the way from £200 to £1000 although those with asking prices over £700 tend to still be on the wall in Music Ground! Realistically £400-500 if it's unmodified and has minimal playing wear. Maybe up to £600 if it looks like it did when it was brand new. If you do decide to sell a couple of tips. Firstly polish up the neck and headstock to a mirror shine with Brasso before taking photos. In fact clean the whole bass. It looks far more impressive. Secondly if you're going to use eBay make sure you're prepared to ship to continental Europe as that where a lot of the serious Kramer collectors are.
Brilliant, thanks a lot for the advice, I'm in Nottingham myself what are the chances lol. I might try it on here then before ebay possibly. Neck is in really good condition on it although there is a bit of fret wear but still plays well. The whole bass is in pretty good condition to be honest, its only flaws are that a couple of the original plastic knobs have broken off, there's a small laquer chip near the control plate and the battery clip wire is buggers so needs a new one soldering on. Its a natural finish one with walnut and maple, and have got the original case although unfortunately the case is kept at my Mum and Dads and they are smokers.
