I got 4 x 15s of a guy in bradford (DC Boulton think?), he said that he got a load of old fane chassis when the factory went bust, around 84/5 ish, and put them in two HH 2x15 ported cabs, they were 8 ohm 100 watt speakers, and sounded great, punchy, decent low end etc, even though only powered by a 50 watt marshall valve amp, played many a pub back room with no PA support, them were the days!!

I have a selection of P type basses, a 1983 maple neck one and 2003 rosewood neck one (both solid colour bodies and stock fender usa pups) that are identical in sound to my battered 47 year old ears, and a home made one with birds eye maple neck, european ash body, and I expected to sound a bit more brittle and trebly, actually is aquite a bit more warm and rounded, maybe its the bartolini precision type pup? Whatever anyone else says, you try a bass, and either like it compared to your current favourite, or not, going thru the same amp/cab etc, and so make a judgement there and then. And then decide that a 1963 Pre cbs custom colour (gold sparkle) P bass with a c width neck and ohsc is what you want, whatever it sounds like, however much it costs (over £10k, eek!!) cos you're in love.

USA Fender Jazz Bass Sky Blue finish - SOLD!
Bassman Rich replied to Isaaclefunkymakak's topic in Basses For Sale
I've got the P version (same colour and year) with a rosewood neck, plays fantastic, sounds great, and the colour is very gently fading to give a slightly sea foam greenish tint to the light blue, was originally going to sell mine but when I cleaned it and took the photos, fell back in love with it. To be fair, i'm like one of those guys with 9 wives with my basses, just when I think I've had enough of one, I have a night with em for old times sake, enjoy it, and then cant divorce any of em ;-) -

Only 370 watts less than my Marshall VBA, but someone might want one

Left-handed Bass Guitar Big bash Day!!!! Sunday 1st April 2012
Bassman Rich replied to patch006's topic in Events
I've plowed all the way thru this thread, and still not sure its not an april fool, and you've just reversed the pics to make it look like you're all left hookers ;-) -
Great looking bass, if it was rosewood neck, i'd definitely have it off you. Can you (or anyone?) answer my strange question. Why does the maple neck look pale, as it would be when it left the factory, yet the headstock is nicely aged to a vintage tint? I've seen loads of basses like this, so it must be what happens, but why??

What guitar amp for people who do not know how to work things
Bassman Rich replied to Owen's topic in Guitar Amplifiers
I'm a bit old school for 'students' (47 years old). Why not just check the amps before and after each lesson, confiscate their phones at the start, and if the amps dont work, dont give em the phones/ipods etc back until they pay up to have the gear fixed. Or just twat em round the head with a big stick, that'll learn em -

1969 Fender Precision, does it look kosher?
Bassman Rich replied to Bassman Rich's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thanks again guys, its exactly stuff like this that make me so happy I've found basschat. As a seperate thing, I have a 1983/4/5 P bass, bought off a very close friend, who bought it new, and he can't remember which year he bought it!!! So unlesss I want to remove the neck, or scratchplate to check pots, I don't know either. A little job for when I get more time. Thanks again guys, and if any of you spot a P bass late 60s early 70s, let me know. -
1969 Fender Precision, does it look kosher?
Bassman Rich replied to Bassman Rich's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thanks guys, I knew I could rely on you. The guy selling it works at a well known northern guitar shop (not sure I can name it, is it against forum rules?), and in reply to my question below "Heres a bit of a question, have you any proof of the original ownership, providence that its a kosher guitar etc? As i'm sure you are only too aware, there are many dodgy dealers, forgeries, bitsa basses put together with ebay found parts and sold as originals, and the lads from (Real name deleted ) 'a well known store, recently closed down' and all the alleged stories of their dealings in stolen and/or fake etc goods" Replied "Hi Rich , thanks for the message , I understand your concerns the bass was bought new from a ************* music shop , B.Page and Son on Wood Street it was bought by a local band and used throughout the 70's and 80's it has not been used since then the precision and some other guitars were brought in to me last week as the owner of them is almost 80 now his nephew ( who I have also known for many years ) asked me to deal with the sale of them on behalf of his uncle his uncle , the original purchaser , has since been in the shop and confirmed the history to me myself and (name deleted) Mr X ; the Luthier / guitar repairman at our shop , are 100% confident the bass is totally genuine ( as are the other guitars from the same guy ) Mr X and I have both been involved in guitars for over 40 years each hope this helps put your mind at ease all the best " I'm not sure whether knowing its being sold via a guitar shop gives me more or less satisfaction that its genuine. As for the price, what would you all say was fair? Ans if anyone has something similar for sale, let me know!!! -
Dear All My ripper is a 74 one (original body shape), and pretty much identical in colour to the one for sale here, and i'm guessing (cos i'm no authority on wood), that its maple too. Its lighter than all my precisions, but I dont have any scales so cant weigh it. The pic Spiney norm put up, looks to me like maybe it was a black bass that sbeen stripped (is that black paint inside the holes where the machine heads go, or just no light/flash so looks dark?), and they put the more grainey wood under a paint job. No idea really, just a thought, but if I didnt already have one, I would definately have this one, its the best year/colour combo imho, and in great nick too. Good lightweight bass, and has quite a bit of trebly growl and bite compared to other Gibson basses which may be available, especially the mahogany ones ;-) By the way, didnt they originally have maple for the 73/4 ones, go to alder till 76/7 ish, then go back to maple again?

Hey Big Red, thanks for all that. I didnt know you could alter the facebook settings to do that, I'll have a word with our people and get the IT department to put someone on to it asap (ie, tell our guitarist to sort it) Cheers again

Hi there, looks like the website is back up, no idea why it went down, or came back up, I dont do the techy thing, and the facebook thing, well thats just facebook saying 'if you don't join our gang, you can't see any of us' Pathetic, I know, but there you go.

Hi there, were based in Leeds, so bit of a long jaunt up to Glasgow, and I suspect our Jim Jones revue style of Rock n Roll is not quite your dads cup of tea, but good luck finding the right band. You could of course get your own band to do it, im sure your dad would be really proud to see you up there cranking out 'blue suede shoes' etc. http://www.therocketeers.co.uk/ Best of luck, Rich Ps for some reason, the webpage is down, theres a bit of stuff on our fb page, if youre really interested here http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/185737268579/

Rewiring Marshall 4 x 10, need female spade terminals
Bassman Rich replied to Bassman Rich's topic in Repairs and Technical
Job done, I now have a 2 ohm cab, thanks to the basschatters who prompted me to 'man up' and solder the thing up. Silver solder worked a treat, best 6 quid I've ever spent!!! Rehearsal wed evening to give it a full workout. -
Rewiring Marshall 4 x 10, need female spade terminals
Bassman Rich replied to Bassman Rich's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks guys, I was hoping to use crimp terminals not just cos i'm poor to middling at soldering, but thats just cos i'm out of practice, and only have lead free solder, which seem to have a poor reputation, but so I can wire (eventually) the cab to either 2 or 8 ohms, either with a switch or 2 x 4 ohm outputs depending which amp (ABM 500 or VBA) is powering it, and until I hear em, wont know which way to go. I'll give marshall technical a go, thanks again. -
Hello all I am trying to rewire an 8 ohm Marshall 4 x 10, fitted with Celestion 100 watt speakers, to 2 ohms so I can power it from my VBA, and need some female spade crimp terminals. I bought some from Maplins today, but the 4.8mm ones are too small, the 6.3mm ones are too big for the male spade connectors on the speakers themselves, anyone know which size I should use, and where I can get them? Thanks in advance, basschatters
