1. I have just built up a homage to a 62 P Bass and managed to experiment with a few bridges. The one that worked best IMHO was a Wilkinson Vintage Bridge. Same 5 screw fixing and is heavier, (more sustain), than the stock Fender one. Has Brass Saddles so looks the business as well. Got it from Axes R Us, ( I think), and was only £14 delivered.
  2.
A nice relaxed one for us at The Stag in Orrel near Wigan. Started off a bit quietly -audience were a bit detached but soon won 'em over and it was cooking by the end of the first set. My good friend, fellow BCer and Black Cherry Spector Euro LX5 owner bassbunny came to see us with his missus, twas a good night in spite of the sh*tty weather. Used my new Euro LX and boy am I happy.
Great to see you last night Alan. I know what you mean about a P Bass not working for you. The Spector sounded awesome. Can't wait to let loose on mine. Cracking Band and really great material. It's nice to see a bunch of guys working together and with so much energy. Your vocalist really knows how to work a crowd. .
  3.
i walked into reverb last week whilst staff were engaging in a bit of football with what looked like a pack of strap locks...
Those must be the missing ones from my Spector......
  4.
Oooo.... may have to get me a ReBop, haven't got one of them.... what did they have colour-wise (and at which shop was this)?
Birmingham Reverb have got an an Amber Rebop at this moment in time.
  5. Went to see Keith last night with Pete, (Thunderthumbs), to collect my auction winnings and see his band. I have dealt with Keith before and he is a cracking guy but the band is great. It was so refreshing to hear numbers that are NOT on everyone else's set list and performed well. The band is nice and tight and the vocalist sounds spookily like Stevie Nicks. Great to see you again Keith and the efforts you put in to sorting out the Yorks do and raising money for charity deserves to be recognised as going beyond the norm. Let's see if any other BassChat bashes can beat the sum of money raised. Oh and by the way the Bass was just the right volume
  6. Have a bump on me. These are Greeeeeeeeeeeeeat cabs. I have 2 of them, (1 without a horn). I posted a review of the "non-neo" ones earlier this year. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=19656 Increadibly light, but with loads of bottom end.

  11.
and the Winner, independently drawn by my next door neighbour called Paul, wearing an Everton shirt ( grimace) is Bassbunny! It is his choice which Charity he wishes the £ raised to go to. Thanks to all who bought tickets!
Whoa, Happy Days. Never won anything in my life before I was tempted to ask for a re-draw, but that would not add any funds to deserving causes. I have decided that I will probably donate the Bass to a local organisation that can either use the instrument or raffle it of for charity. First thought is the Church we use for rehearsing. They charge us next to nothing and have even given us our own key to get into the Community Centre. Sure any money raised would be welcome. BB
  12.
Where is Beedster?
He has "Left The Building" never to return. I was trying to get hold of him for about a month as I had some TI Flats for him. No response at all. He popped up on another forum and has since vanished from that. He did have a farewell posting outlining his reasons, which I have a great deal of sympathy for. Still around though as he bought another P Bass on fleabay recently.
  13.
I play in a functions band and wouldn't consider getting out of bed to do a gig for £50 per person. If he can get a 6 piece band for £150 then they must be sreiously s**te or completely stupid. And if he can get a 6 piece for that money, and you're aggrieved at it, the simple answer is don't play there. You're as good as can prove you are. If you're much better than that, seek out the venues that'll pay you what you're worth. I'm on OldGit's side of the fence (although we do still do the odd club and pub, but under our terms moneywise). Oh, and yes, we pay tax too.
+1 for Pete's comments. If you are prepeared to go out for £150, you will never be anything other than a £150 band and could actually be doing yourselves more harm than good. I found this on another forum that really sums the situation up. Its all about mutual respect and understanding. The venue needs to make a bob or two as do the bands. It is a symbiosis thing ( whoa heavy stuff) Each and every band will claim (and rightfully so) that they are the best and will hopefully promote themselves and the gigs to the full. The venue, in order to get the maximum numbers thro the door should be working to promote the Venue. Sometimes thats a bit more than sticking a couple of posters up in the pub. Getting some posters in local shops and a mention in the local paper (gig guide sections etc) can get out to a wider audience. Working together is the way to go. After all is said done and the beer taps are dry, We need each other to make live music work. I reckon that sums it up. I am doing some serious thinking about one of the bands I play in as they really don't seem to be able to switch on to the "promotion" part of the band and are seriously undervaluing the band as a whole.

  15. I know we have a number of members who also play guitar and I am looking for some help with an Aria TA65. As a converted guitarist myself I bought this about 3 years ago with a cracked scarf joint. Steve Robinson repaired it and did a beauitiful set-up for me. He also pointed out it was a common occurance but "will not happen again" after he fixed it. I have never really played it as i switched to Bass not long after the purchase and have now decided to dispose of all but 2 of my guitars, (The Telecaster and Gibson Nighthawk are keepers), and this is the last to go. I have tried various forums and cannot get much info on it. I reckon it is post Matsumoku and judging by the serial number was made in 1990. Twin Humbuckers, 2 Vol and 2 Tone controls and pick-up selector switch. All gold plated hardware and superb binding. It is in outstanding condition with one visible Buckle Rash mark on the rear. Can anyone help with any info and what it may be worth. I don't want to try and rip anyone off, but if I don't cover what i have laid out, I will probably keep it. One of the bands I play in has a pro guitarist and I got him to "road test" it for me last Friday. He did this during the set break but was that impressed he kept it on for most of the secod set and he normally plays a Les Paul. He couldn't believe it was a 20 year old guitar. 17. Nick is great to deal with. He bought my Drum Machine and sorted the Bank Transfer out really quickly, (No PayPal fees for us......) Hope it fits in with your project Nick. Cheers, Stuart
  18.
Very interesting to see these Zoot cabs - I wonder how they've sold the problems of getting a stiff enough enclosure when making it so light? I know it's taken me a lot of work to get my Barefaced Bass designs to perform well. Alex
Alex, From talking to Mike, before I ordered my cabs, the secret appears to be in the ply he uses. It is the same stuff TechAmp use for their enclosures and as well as being very light and stiff, is bloody expensive. Apparently each consignment is costing Mike £1K. Cheers, Stuart
  19.
Can't wait to hear how the Zoot cabs sound... I noticed the 112's we're only around £280 from bassmerchant; very tempting!
Hi All, I have done a review of the 1x12's. Check here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=19656 I have a couple of pre-production ones that I got in March, and they are really excellent. Talking to Mike, apparently I have a different horn in mine compared to the production run, but there shouldn't be much difference. Mike invited me down to LIMS and I was fortunate enough to be able to check out the neo version. Unbelievably light. The 2x15 is awesome. There should be some stock available when these are finished

    MTD 535...
I'm not one for customs, all of the custom makes of basses we've got on here do absoloutley nothing for me, not in a bad way and I 100% respect the craftsmanship and the hard work, but it's just each Shuker/Overwater/ACG/RIM etc... I've seen have never made me want one, Sei's...a little, but I just don't have the paitence for one and I'm just happy to have a great of the self bass which has been well put together, that looks good and makes the sounds I want . I know such high calibre basses like MTD, Fodera, Sadowsky NYC are custom to a point, but at least for the price tag, I know the time has been taken to make them the best they can. 3 (Or more) months waiting for a bass?? I end up so frustated I'd probally read the bible and not laugh out loud .
I know what you mean and I guess it is each to his own. If we all liked the same Bass, it would be a pretty boring world. I am very lucky in having almost the perfect bass FOR ME, but there are areas that can be improved upon, (very few) and the only answer is to have one made. I have had to buy and sell a number of Basses to get to the point where I can now say, "This is it" as long as you can change a & b. I am damnn sure my ideal would not be everyone elses. I would really try and get to London and sample the MTD. Not everyone who has tried mine likes it and for the same reasons Jamie has highlighted. Good luck with your search.
