1. Have had a number of enquiries from BCer's about splitting the Bass and selling the various parts. Althoiugh I would get what I wanted in terms of overall cash for the bass, I really don't want to do it at this stage. It was a project I wanted to do and the results have far surpassed my expectations, so rather than break it up, I will keep it until the market improves. It sounds awesome and definately punches way above its weight.
 2.
Think Tribute production now is in Indonesia and they are going up in price.....
Correct. They moved production late last year from the Cort factory in Korea, (who also make Lakland, Ibanez and some Fender models), to Indonesia. Unbelievable value for money and probably one of the most versatile Basses around. Check the sound files on the G&L site, they can do everything form a Stingray on Acid to Jazz and P Bass. A certain BassChatter known to Y5S and mysely used to use a Marcus Miller and a Lakland DJ5, (or is it a JO5), and now uses an L2500 Skyline instead of the 2.......
 3. Stop worrying and just get out there and enjoy it. Good Luck and make sure you let us know how it went.
 4. Try a Wizard Thumper. Awesome pick-up. Loads of output and plenty of "thump"
 5.
Nice job mate. Another tempter.
Cheers ND, It has come out much much better than I originally thought. I just don't play 4 strings these days and have bought another 2 fives since this project.
 6.
What was the original brand of the bass? Just like to keep my eye out for them in the future, it's hard to find good quality copies like the SXs!
Haven't a clue I'm afraid. They are marketed as "No Name" guitars as there is no decal etc on the headstock at all. The shop I got it from orders direct from the factory and thus knows what else they make.
 7.
A £10 aluminium case from B&Q - perfect fit and room for a cab lead.
+1 for the B&Q solution
 8.
looks nice, and a barg at £185. If only it were of a J orientation...
Ah I'll have a "P" please Bob......
 9. All PM's replied to. Just to confirm, the Bass is brand spanking new. Any blemishes on the pics are reflections as the body has been polished up with Grover Grime Guard and you can see your face in it. Pics were taken outside on a rare sunny day...... Did think of "ageing" it, but decided against it.
 10. Now that should be some Bass, Son........ Using ACG pre-amp as well?

 12.
Has this not gone? Surprised. For anyone lusting over a SR5, this is a similar sound for half the price!
Couldn't agree more. Must be the best value Bass on the market, (except the Spector Euro 5 I got brand new for £499). It'll do Stingray, Jazz and P-Bass. No need to carry different basses around.
 13.
We are a classic rock covers band based in and around Bury lancs. We do the odd one or two gigs a month and money isn't the prime motivation. We all play in other bands (function bands etc) so we don't want to work loads. We have our own rehearsal room in bury Lancs and rehearse one night a week, The set up is twin lead guitars, Vocals, Drums and hopefully a new bass player. If you fancy having a laugh and playing a few tunes and having a few beers then get in touch.
So you playing guitar then Ian? I have just quit a 2 guitar Pub Rock Band as it wasn't really doing it for me. Am happy to come and rehearse with you though until you find someone. Need to pay you back somehow for the "heads up" on the G&L
 14. Hi ND, If you can't get through to Mike, PM me. I should be able to help. The second cab will make a difference. I use 2 of the "non-neo" ones and really like them. I forgot to connect the second one up one night, (the non-tweeter one), and couldn't understand why i wasn't getting the sound i was used to. Spotted the problem between sets and second set managed to drown the guitarists out as per normal. Notice you have a G&L L2500 as do I . Sounds awesome through 2 Zoots.
 15. Whilst browsing in a Music Shop recently I spotted some "No Name" Fender copies and a 62P caught my eye. It looked really well put together and chatting with the owner it appears to have been made in the same factory that makes Tokai and SX. I have managed to compare the original hardware from it with an SX and it does seem to be the same. It has an amazing neck that is a simlar profile to a Jazz and has a lovely tinted laquer giving a nice aged look. So I bought it and threw all the hardware and electronics away, with the exception of the tuners and started a build. The cavity has been lined with Copper. The scratchplate has been foil backed. A Wizard Thumper has been installed along with CTS Pots, Switchcraft Jack and Sprague capacitor. All wiring is in Vintage cloth covered wire and the pot/capacitor values were decided upon after a chat with Andy at Wizard pickups. The bridge has been replaced with a Wilkinson Vintage bridge with Brass Saddles. New string tree and Fecker transfer, (laquered over), complete the picture. I was going to put a set of Fender tuners on, but the original ones were better. It sounds absolutely awesome. I cannot believe a bass that cost so little sounds so good. The neck is really nice to play and is dead straight. I wound my MarkBass up to max and plugged in and it is absolutely silent. Not a trace of earth hum. I built this as an experiment and as I don't play 4 strings these days, have decided to sell it. It would make a perfect Bass for those "iffy" venues where you don't really want to take your Pride & Joy or a cheap back-up. It looks the part and sounds even better. It cost around £250 in parts to build. Is absolutely brand spanking new and only completed a couple of weeks ago. Looking for £185 for a P-Bass that will stack up against any most of the Fender P-Bass's I have played. Would also be interested in a deal involving an Amp Head. Need a back-up and particularly a 2U rack-mountable one
 16.
Sold!
Thank God for that. Saved me buying yet another Bass......
 17. On Hold for a BassChatter who knows a good buy
 18.
Hey! I think I used to own that very bass! It sounded great then.........I bet it's mega now with the preamp. If your thinking about an MTD then go for it £375 = bargain you would be hard pushed to find another decent 5 string for the money. I recomend lighter strings say 40-100 to compensate for the higher string tension feel associated with a longer scale. Good luck with the sale.
That's intriguing. it's nice being able to track the history. Putting the Bart preamp in has made an amazing difference and the 3 position switch that changes the mid frequencies is very effective. It cost over £200 to buy/install the preamp and Steve made a cracking job of it.
 19.
i am very interested, would you be willing to post to Glasgow?
PM'd
 20. Cheers Guys. It is a cracking Bass, but sadly not getting played much. You get an aweful lot for the money
 21.
Is this a beefed up version of the Kingston 5? Also, is it 35 inch scale? Cheers,
Hi, It is 35" scale. The Kingston is the single MM pickup version and the Heir is the 2 P/U version, so I guess "beefed up" would cover it.
 22. This was my main gigging Bass until "Marvin" arrived and I really need to thin my collection down. Sunburst with Maple Neck, Jazz/MM configuration. Has recently had a Bart 5.4 AP pre-amp installed and set-up by Steve Robinson of Sale. Mike Tobias recommended the pre and it is amazing. Usual controls, Vol/Bal/Bass/Middle/Treble and a push/pull on the Volume for Active/Passive. It also has a 3 position toggle that changes the "Mid" frequencies. Steve also routed the body to install a flip-top battery box. Has a small ding on the top of the headstock and some other minor ones that have not chipped the paintwork. A truly awesome Bass that is also pretty light. Looking for £375 for her.

 24. That is an amazing price for an awesome Bass. Cort make G&L, Ibanez, Lakland and some Fender guitars and they are unbeatable value. Someone grab it before i convince myself I need another bass.......
