1. Agreed, my favourite type of bassplaying - not showy-offy, not Mr Flashypants, but solid and there to support the song.
2. I'll add my opinion into the mix that the Classic Vibe Squier is easily as good, if not better (perhaps post pickup upgrade) than the Mexican Classic range. They are so good, it makes owning a more expensive Jazz at the same time, rather difficult. Cheers, James
3. I reckon you'd sell this much faster if postage were offered... Just my two pence worth matey, but Interparcel could have it posted for you - you just need to grab a box and some bubble wrap. Go on, it'll get it shifted Cheers, James
4.
For a site to be worthwhile they'd need to keep it updated regularly as stock moves and they would have to include prices. Not sure if their staff would be up to doing that, but the last time I was in there they didn't even have price tickets on the basses hanging up. Its probably about 'return on investment'. Having a professional web site probably won't affect the number of walk-ins from people who visit Denmark Street to trawl the guitar shops. If they were interested in doing mail order they'd probably be doing it already.
But you don't need a full-blown e-commerce site! I've often thought this, a simple website with contact info, perhaps some blurb about the staff, what services are on offer, what manufacturers they deal with etc etc etc is still worth 100x more than nothing at all. The sort of site I mentioned above is very cheap to build, can still look professional and won't cost the earth to host. To not have a website presence at all (and I'm not talking about Bass Cellar here in particular) smacks of two things to me: 1). Total luddite owners that don't understand the value of the web or 2). Arrogant owners who consider it a waste of time and "Don't want the hassle" of online enquiries. Cheers, James
5. Pick up something from the used section here, seriously there are some mega bargains that come up.
6. Hi mate, Part of the problem with your ad is those pics - they aren't that great. You don't even need a good camera, the crucial things are: 1). Decent Light - take them outside if you have to 2). Neutral background - even grass is okay, it allows people to clearly seperate the bass from the background 3). Fill the frame / crop - make sure that the interesting stuff (the bass) fills the picture - Picasa etc will let you crop and it's free! 4). Make sure the photo is sharp - again, Picasa has sharpen tools, but if it's blurry to begin with, re-shoot. 5). Get the details - serial number maybe, close up of flame top, bridge, pickups, tuners, machineheads, fretboard AND any cosmetic damage 6). Resize your pics to 800 pixels on the longest side and dump the html straight into the ad, then full size piccies display without the irritating 'click to enlarge'. Lastly, consider what would make YOU buy it if you were looking: 1). Clearly laid out text describing what the bass is 2). A condition rating with clear info 3). Information on postage and packing with a few options 4). Amount required, whether offers or trades are considered and payment options If you approach your advert more logically, you will sell it if it's priced right. I personally think you are asking a little to much, although I can see why - you do have to be realistic though, and given that you'll save yourself about £50 in fees, look at the eBay final prices and reduce the cost a touch. Cheers, James
7. I've been both sides of this and think it depends a lot on the players. If there's NO sign of work having been done outside of the rehearsal room then yes, I'd say there was a fair right for you to be irritated by it. However, a lot of players (myself included when I used to play lead) like to hear the band play through it before they shape the solo - often I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing until I heard our bassist and drummer running through it. Now I'm the other side of the fence, I appreciate it greatly that our guitarist learns things BEFORE the session as it saves precious time and keeps the rehearsals on track. Cheers, James
8. Surely it's always amusing when something is 'accidentally' a bit rude, but calling your product the 'Big Hairy Balls 1000: c***s***** edition' is just a touch purile, no?
9. I think with these things (although my experience is minimal as we're always the only band 'on') that the crucial thing is assume nothing and ALWAYS chat face-to-face with the actual owner of the gear YOU are going to use. Sod the guitarists and their Marshall arguements and sod the drummer with their 'well I'll use my own snare' conversations. Look after yourself and your reputation - especially as bass gear is so easy to damage through inexpert use of EQ. Cheers, James
10. Thanks all, SOLD pending payment to jxljxl Cheers, James
11. Er...'Bugera' amplifiers? Sorry, but did no-one at Behringer HQ check to see what that sorta sounds like in English? Hmmm...
12. I'm just gonna steam in here and poop on this thread with my bad experiences of Ashdown gear... Actually, no I'm not. What I am gonna say is how nice it is that you bothered to post to say something good about something (anything!). It's not a particuarly human characteristic (or at least a British one) to celebrate when something goes well, so well done for stopping and thinking about it. Cheers, James
13. Been there and done that. Get that Beachams (spelt wrong, I realise) All in one stuff in a bottle. Now, IF DRIVING OR ALLERGIC TO THE CONTENTS DO NOT DO THIS, but I have found having a swig an hour beforehand then regular sips over 10-15 minute intervals really helps. Make sure you're not gonna do anything daft like drink the whole bottle, but the key is keeping your throat lined with it. Works wonders Best of luck, James
14. Morning all, sorry have not been well so have just got to this. I'm happy for the moderators to make a ruling here, but as jxl contacted with questions waiting to be answered, but bentdice is happy as is and posted to say so, then I'm not really sure who to sell to! Technically, jxl was first? Can anyone advise? Don't want to upset anyone! Cheers, James
15. Sorry, had a couple of PM's asking where I'm based. The bass can be collected from St Albans or Stevenage but this weekend I will be going up to Worcestershire and back so could possibly do a meetup along the way if of interest! Cheers, James
16. Don't suppose you've changed your mind on postage in the intervening months mate? Our guitarist would still bite your hand off.
17. Always try and have a poo. Seriously, nothing impacts on your performance more than wanting to crimp one out two minutes into Set 1, Song 1.
18. Meant to say that the first to say ON THREAD gets it. Just to avoid confusion via PM offers etc.
19. Hi all, As mentioned before, it's now time to sell my Classic Vibe Jazz as have just bought myself an Ibanez ATK. CONDITION: Overall condition is good, however it has been played and gigged, so don't expect it to be mint. Scratches to scratchplate from playing with pick (I use a brass one!), nick on top of headstock from the usual 'whoops' moment with a wall in a small pub and probably other little dents/dinks here and there. There is also a small amount of paint missing at the neck pocket (as show in photos) but this was like this when I bought the guitar and probably just a factor of the neck pocket being VERY tight (tighter than the Fender Jazz I had recently). UPGRADED, YOU SAY?: Yep - the original pickups, whilst pretty good, didn't have quite enough oomph for me, so a set of GFS JB Pro Jazz Bass pickups were ordered, imported, installed and enjoyed! These are seriously nice pickups and the tone is fat, punchy but with the proper 'honk' you get from a GOOD jazz. Tasty. HARD CASE, YOU SAY? Yup, available for £35 on top of the cost if you require (would be a good if having it delivered). Brand new and on its way to me tomorrow. SO, HOW MUCH - I WANT IT! I am looking for £185 + postage for this, which I feel is a good price given that the pickups have been upgraded yet does reflect that this is a played, used, loved model rather than boxfresh. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK: gafbass - I bought the bass from him and have LOVED it, but the guy does a beautiful setup, polished the frets and the electronics have been shielded - DAMN, it's quiet. WOULD YOU POST? I'M NOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO LIVE IN BRITAIN'S No.4 CHAV TOWN Sure, I can post. It's likely cost about £15 with standard insurance, £20 if you'd rather it was insured to the purchase price. I'm not really prepared to post this unless you purchase the hard case too, however if you really really wanted it sent then I could take the neck off and send that way - it's just not that safe to try and post a guitar with the neck intact without a hard case. SHUT UP AND SHOW ME SOME PICS! Okay! Just taking some now, be patient.....
20. Yep, just take the internal speaker resistance - so connecting an 8 ohm cab as well will give you the 4 ohms the amp requires to deliver the full 200w. 1x15 and 2x10 is a pretty classic setup, I think you'll like it!
21. Didn't last long. I'd have said it looked scrappy but genuine enough. Bit of a clean and it's probably a nice bass!
22. £1500 is just too much. I'm all for paying for quality, but I deffo think there is a point at which I simply couldn't justify it. Looks nice, but it'd be worth more than my car.
