1. Yeah, but I reckon people would be afraid of fakes on there (I know I would) - my Dragon's Den pitch is to effectively underwrite the genuine-ness of the vouchers for sale by employing a truck load of guys in white coats to study the vouchers with magnifying glasses....
2. I've often thought about setting up a company that buys and sells gift vouchers - I wonder if such a thing exists. So, someone is given a £100 voucher, my company would buy it for £65, flog it for £80 and make £15 on the deal etc. As long as you were able to sell them on then you could turn over a fair bit like that I reckon - plenty of people get lumbered with vouchers they can't use! Cheers, James
3.
No, right you are, I just checked, they must have changed the spec, I remember mine being a strange named wood.
Agathis?
4. Hi donutman, I'll happily post if we arrange insurance to cover it? I have the original box so it's a good fit and can find extra (proper) packing. Let me know what you think? Would be wonderful to see it go to a good home! Cheers, James
5. Thanks Simon, it really is! Just need it gone as I have so little room - otherwise I think it'd be a keeper. For £150, this is such a steal, what else does that buy you if you're after a genuinely impressive acoustic?
6. I know they are totally different designs, but the three Ashdowns that I have had that exhibit this problem have all had 'dry solder joints'. Where and why, I don't know. But that was the diagnosed cause!
7. I'd be looking at the power amp tubes first off. When was the last change and rebias (if necessary on that model)?
8. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...1#ht_500wt_1182 Interesting eh? Gotta say I like the lined maple fretboard idea....bet that'd be nice with a bit of work. Cheers, James
9. I have recently dealt with Nik for his Kay bass. Sadly, despite good packing on his behalf, the couriers managed to damage it resulting in a hefty bill for its repair. Nik has been superb in arranging a claim under the insurance and although we're still awaiting the outcome, I can't fault him at all and am so glad I bought the bass from someone so honest, helpful and friendly! His communication throughout has also been excellent. Deffo recommended and a very positive experience, regardless of the heavy-handed fools responsible for the damage! Cheers, James

11. It's a Kay through neck....has quite a bit of neck dive, but I don't know where I could move the pin to. Tricky.
12. Hi all, Need to find a nice wide strap that will cure neck dive. My current bass has 'arse in the air' tendencies and it's getting on my moobs. Don't mind if it's leather or not, but the one I have at the mo is 3.5" leather and quite shiny so doesn't help matters. Cheers! James
13. I'm sure plenty of people will shoot me down here, but I don't trust strings that have been 'dismounted' (if that's the right word) and then re-strung. I'm sure they'd probably be okay, but to me it just feels like pushing my luck....sorry to hear of your troubles!
14. I think Lag are a French brand, but manufactured somewhere in the Far East, yup. Startlingly well put together!
15. Hi all, Due to the purchase of yet more bass gear, I find myself needing to sell this - I bought it brand new and played it twice, literally. The guitar is in perfect condition, and I've lowered the action to make it play beautifully. It's a gorgeous guitar with a big boomy warm tone that is perfect for strumming. Solid cedar top and this model is now discontinued so getting harder to get hold of. I have taken lots of pictures so you can see just how well put together it is! I am looking for a rather tasty £120 for this, and would rather not post but can at buyers risk - would be sent in the original LAG box and well packaged and marked fragile. Collection welcome and preferred from St Albans / Stevenage in Herts! Cheers, James

18.
Sorry, I think I must have misread your post. I understand now, I thought you meant you bypassed your active electronics. I wasn't being patronising, sorry, I just meant turning up on-board active controls to full is the virtually the same as turning the controls on your amp up full. Apologies for my misunderstanding. What you've done is interesting actually, what difference in tone and output were there?
No worries matey, have edited my original post to make it a wee bit clearer anyway
19. The grounding is all soldered to the sleeve of the jack - I think that's right? Seems just as quiet in terms of buzz as it did before (once I reattached the bridge grounding wire! Doh!) Although it's hard to say for sure, as I did a string change at the same time, taking the volume and tone controls out of the equation has possibly given an increased amount of volume and high end. Really should have put the old strings back on for a proper A/B test.
20. Sorry, perhaps I didn't make myself clear - my basses are all passives and on those I leave everything up full. On actives, (which I have have owned, but never stuck with) everything is left in the notched, middle position. I find a tone in your email very slightly patronising (apologies if I am misreading this) but no I don't also turn my amp controls up to the maxmimum too. My point, which I thought I had already made clearly enough but I guess not was that I am enjoying removing the options for sound shaping from the bass - getting rid of the knobs and switches to fiddle with, and concentrating on make the best noise I can with my fingers, is that so wrong?
21. I meant to post this a while ago, but I recently bypassed all the electronics in my main bass and just run from the pickup straight to the jack. It's a P-Bass copy with a GFS pickup and it sounds absolutely HUGE as a result. I came to the realisation that almost always, I NEVER touch any of the controls on my passive basses and leave everything on maximum - this is partly why I've never got on with active preamps etc as I have fiddled, but always found myself back at the centre position. (Edited for clarity!) The flipside to having no tonal control on your bass is it forces your to do it with your fingers - I've got more adept at going from wooly thud to biting attack just with the part of my striking fingers I use, or by changing pick type. I then approach EQ on the amp as EQ'ing for the room and not the instrument. Any other players here with this approach? I'm not saying we should all ditch our expensive onboard EQ's etc but try it sometime, it's quite refreshing! It's like having nowhere to hide! Cheers, James
