1. Actually, some good news - the best way to clean a speaker is to get a small dog to urinate on it!
2. Go to Tesco/Sainsbury/Whatever and buy 'Walnut Oil'. It's fantastic!
3. Oh yeah, looks like it's gone. Damn.
4. Agreed, don't wet it with anything, just dab off the excess. Dogs. Yuk.
5. Grab one from Thomann.de? They are only £38 or something daft!
6. Back in your box Wayne - that's twisting his words It's a fair point that 'mainstream' music shops often stick to Gibson and Fedner plus a selection of pointy sh*t that the majority of buyers would at least recognise. BG, BD etc. do brands that I've never heard of with my status as 'enthusiastic amateur' - it's a different market but I know if I wanted to check out a whole range of instruments regardless of what was on the headstock, I'd look to one of those shops.
7. Not at all fussed really Hiram. My ideal trade would see a decent wedge of cash in my pocket but am happy to look at passive and active and J-a-likes too.
8.
I have heard tales of these non-Fender basses but never really believed them to be true. Perhaps one day I will cross the county and visit South Oxfordshire so I can see such legendary beasts with my own eyes.
Careful, they scare easily. But they'll be back and in bigger numbers...
9. Yep. I do this too, although I point them in the imaginary line between the middle of the control plate 'pointy' bit and the top part. We should get help.
10. It IS difficult though, think way back when..you'd have a choice of a few models and a few colours - the market is so diverse these days that it does make pleasing everyone very tricky. I've bought online, I've bought from shops and I've bought from shops that are online - it really doesn't matter to me, but I DO accept the value of playing the actual bass before I decide to part with the cash. Doesn't mean I don't buy blind, but if I really like the bass I'm playing but perhaps preferred another colour, I'd likely just put up with it! Cheers, James
11. Thanks for the comments folks - no malice is intended, simply that I don't want the trade to cost me anything, so I ask any prospective trades to pay for both sets of postage. Nothing more sinister than that! Cheers, James
12. If it means it's a five then no sorry mate, I syruggle enough with four strings!
13. Sorry I was on my phone and it didn't attach when it said it did. Will sort in the morning good sir!
14. But that's capitalism, baby? As a punter I have zero interest for the motives of a shop owner, it's a market in the truest sense of the word, if the other guy has fresher looking plums than you, don't expect to sell many plums!
15. This. ^ I take your point about declining markets but we owe shops nothing at all. If you like the item/price/service then do it but it the stock is in poor state then that leaves price and service. Why would you as a shop owner not try even just a little...speculate to accumulate and all that?
16. I disagree. It IS the responsibility of the shop to adequately present their wares.... Trade price on a set of cheap rounds won't be much but will give the impression of the stock being good and looked after. Also, tune the bastid it takes no time at all and ensures a positive first impression. Sorry but if you don't try, I no buy.
17. # Deposit received - trade pending # Hi all, I have a rather lovely 'Ray which was imported from the US in 2000. Sapphire black with maple neck. Classic! Comes with original hard case (couple of stickers but works great). However I can't really cope with MM necks, so would be interested in a trade or PX for a nice Jazz. Straight swap is fine but you'd need to pay both sets of postage - collection much preferred and can meet at a services along the M5 (I'm near Ledbury / Gloucester). Cheers, James
18. I too think I know the shop to which you refer and would concur - used to be a real Alladin's Cave!
19. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_550fl_bk_progressive_deko.htm 5 string fretless if anyone's keen
20. Hi all, I'm terrible, me. I've spotted something super shiny (and very different for me) so something has to go to fund it! This is my Squier Jazz Deluxe, it's the active one and the preamp is really very impressive - loads of tones here, good power and sounds great. Playability is really decent too, nice neck and the frets are barely touched. I'm using the photos from Great British Bass Lounge as it's literally only just arrived and they are better than anything I could take! Looking for £185 for this one, collected from Herefordshire or I can post as I do have a box Cheers, James
21. Paypal is cool - see the note about gift payments though, so if you wanted to avoid gift payments, I'd add the Paypal fee to the cost, so £10.77 (sorry!) You'd be welcome to collect in person if local, or I might be able to meet you for some petrol fundage? Cheers, James
22. Yep, largely pretty poor. There's MUCH better value for money out there (Harley Benton or J&D) - I'd avoid them and look second hand. What's the budget? £150-200 would net you a s/h Squier VM or similar and they are FANTASTIC.
23. Hi all, I've decided to move on my Orange TB500 as it's just got too much gain for me, I find it hard to keep it clean (fnarr). It's just come back from Orange having had the whole power amp section replaced. It's been checked over and it's back but I can't see me using it! I will include the receipt for the work as I would assume there's a bit of warranty on that too. Anyway, it's in reasonable condition with no major dents, scratches or dings but plenty of the usual marks from being gigged etc. Looking for £285 + postage or you're welcome to collect from me in Herefordshire. Cheers, James
24. So after having both my Orange Bass Terror blow up (now fixed hurrah) and my TC BH500 gain pot problem, my new BG250-208 seems to be playing up. I used it at practise on Friday but only through my Barefaced, so didn't try the internal speakers. I come to use it today and it buzzes badly through the speakers - fine through the DI and fine through an extension cab so it looks like the internal speakers are goosed? ARGH! Back to PMT it goes
