1. Cheers for the compliments guys. The flaming on the maple really pops in the right light and the high gloss finish is just the icing on the cake. Some interesting trade offers so far; keep 'em coming. Jay.
2. Hello folks, I'm looking to trade my 2004 Euro for a five string. Condition of the bass is immaculate; no dings, dents or discolouration of the gold hardware. It's also recently returned from the Gallery in London where Martin and co. carried out a full set-up and fretstone. Martin recommended the fretstone to achieve the kind of action I wanted. The action is fantastic and the fretwork is flawless; very low and no fret buzz. Bass has also been recently strung with a set of Elixirs. This was one of the last solid maple ones they made before the switch to the LX model and they had a $500 premium at that time. It'll also come with a heavy duty Warwick flightcase which is also in excellent condition Trade wise, I'm very open. Only pre-requisites are for a 34" scale and 18mm or less string spacing. High on the list would be-

Sei
Shuker
overwater
Warwick
maybe even a musicman
I can add cash for the right bass also. If you have any five string for trade, by all means run it by me. I'm based in North London. TRADED All the best, Jay.
3.
bump for your Saturday morning viewing
Thanks for the info. Pm sent Jay.
4. What's the scale length on this beauty? And also the string spacing at the bridge. Gorgeous bass sir. Jay.
5. No problem John, but it's Simon that deserves the credit. Might tackle this line myself over the weekend. Some tasty Jamersonesque licks in there. Jay.
6. Here you go, courtesy of Simon Merrick. This is one killer line from Raphael Saadiq. Good luck with it! http://www.thebassment.info/transcriptions/joss-stone.html And here's Simon doing his thing. Also, some fantastic transciptions at his site- www.thebassment.info Easy, Jay.
7. I've owned and played a few Chris' instruments and they have all been top notch. You're a lucky man indeed! That Korina top is mighty fine too.
8. I knew moving to London would be fantastic and the venue is only fifteen minutes away! E-mail reservation sent! Jason
9. I've dealt with Dirk before and he is a gent to say the least so you can be sure to buy with confidence. Although for that kind of money I would fly to Belgium and hire a small security team to escort it and me back home! That bass is simply exquisite Good luck with the sale Dirk. Jay.
10.
Where it will be well looked after
Great to hear. It deserves to be gigged!
11. Trade pending but still available for a cash sale. smile.gif
12. I would also be willing to accept trades for effects pedals. Pretty much anything from EBS particularly an octave pedal or the envelope filter. Electro-harmonix bass synth would be on my trade list too!
13. I really need to get my lense prescription renewed. I completely missed the B string on that Windmill! Too mesmerised by the quilt...as inviting as a swimming pool in Crete And yep, beyond having a set of pups custom wound, the SBC's are amazing. Couldn't agree more about the Barts too; very closed sound.
14.
Sing it does, mmmwwwaahhh, though with a warmer more mellow tone than had it had an epoxy board. Agree fully on the pickup confusion. On that note, the Unicorn's pickups are actually handwound by Aaron Armstrong to Unicorn specs. Finally, as a side note to that note (hey, the thread is about my basses, ok? ), the pups in my Aria are also from Aaron - the old ones died on me and Aaron wound a pair nailing that Aria SB sound. He's a magician.
Aaron is another guy who knows how to wind a pup. We really are spoiled in Europe when it comes to pick-ups! Also, how much is a Ryanair flight to Sweden? And on my continuing deviation of this porn thread; I'm selling a set of Delano SBC quad coils that would work wonders in your blue Windmill. Never got around to installing them in my Sei.
15. I didn't realise Haussel wound the pups for them! I always find it perplexing when custom firms state that they fit their 'own-brand' pick-ups when in reality they outsource to established pick-up manufacturers, albeit custom wound to their specs;Vigier and Sandberg are two names that spring to mind, although Sanbergs relation to Delano is no big secret. Names like Haussel and Delano would surely be a bonus to any bass manufactures spec list! Anyway, I bet that bass sings!
16. Hello folks, I'm selling a pair of Delano SBC HE/S 4 pick-ups. They are the quad coil versions which when coil tapped can give series/parrallel as well as true humcancelling single coil. They can be configured in different ways too apparently eg. like a P pick-up but I haven't investigated this too much. The guys at Delano can answer any questions about this as well as installation. They are fantastic to deal with and are always happy to help! Of course they will work just fine without coil taps. These pups are amazing and were purchased after a lot of research and testing to replace a set of stock Bartolinis. The bass I bought them for is being moved on to make way for a custom ACG so these are surplus to requirements. £150 including postage. These are brand spanking new and haven't been installed. Sound samples taken from a Shuker loaded with the SBC dual coils- Rear pick-up soloed Mixed Front pick-up soloed slap I would also be willing to accept trades for effects pedals. Pretty much anything from EBS particularly an octave pedal or the envelope filter. Electro-harmonix bass synth would be on my trade list too! smile.gif Easy, Jay.
17. Aha, thats the one. I was just too lazy to look up the Windmill website. How are you finding the one piece ramp/pick-up. I was seriously considering getting one for my Sei but I thought adjusting individual pick-up height for equal out-put would be compromised ie. you couldn't set the neck pup lower than the bridge.
18. I think the trade is as safe as houses on my end Mick Just thought I'd have a wee punt before the weekend. Pm sent by the way.
19. Nicest collection I think I've seen on here to date. I love the fact you held to your basses from way back in the day. And that fretless windmill is pure sex......mmmmmmm. I seem to remember Windmill producing a j-modern like that for Hadrien Feraud. Not sure whether it was a full on signature model or just a one off custom. It looked an awful lot like that.
20. Thanks for the detailed reply Rob. It was a great take on a well covered issue and not any way boring I paricularly like your stance on the sustain issue. I've spoken to a few luthiers about the real benefits of a through-neck vs bolt-on and by extension a set neck. Some think a through-neck really does give the benefits you outlined above while a few have said tha the differences are negligible and a well constructed bolt-on will give you give the same sweet sound that a through-neck gives. Also, everyone I've spoken to has pointed out the whole host of mitigating factors like electronics, woods etc. I'd tend to lean toward the 'through necks have a distinct impact on sound' view and would agree with your assertion that its pointless to hide a sound behind a percussive thud. Anyway, I think I will specify a set-neck for my own custom. I was just wondering about the set-necks place in things. Fantastic bass again. Hope you have many happy years of playing it. Easy, Jay.
