1. I've always wanted to play with Andrew Borger, that's Norah Jones' Drummer. His feel is amazing, and I love drummers who can play slow......but well! Si
2. Yup, Dan fronts Piano to, although i don't think they're doing much at the moment!. Yes Marianne does get about, in all the good ways lol Si
3. Hmmmmmm interesting <Fingers upon chin> Cheers Si
4. Is this a straight swap on a standard US Jazz, like the Badass II? How does it differ from the II? Si
5. Ah bollox, i'll remember that for next time Ped Ha, i played in Norwich not long ago and thats where Dood lives, i thought he was in Ipswich so didn't tell him. Typical! Cheers Darryll, yeah man we'll hook up at some point! Anyway, you're lucky, your hair is straight pretty much, having curly tangly hair is a bit hazardous at times, got it caught in Marianne Harris' glasses once, and many times in trees lol. Plus having it cut has done wonders for my sex life dunno why, quite unlike Sampson! Cheers guys, glad you like the vid! Si
6. Complete with a bum note from me!! lol Expert In Trickery I think the rest of the gig is on YouTube, but this was the best song sound wise for whatever reason, shocking monitoring at that gig. Hope you enjoy Si p.s. My voice sounds very odd at the start, not like me haha Was also my first FSOF gig with short hair........was very odd Gear is my Lakland 44-02D, my Ashdown ABM EVO II 500, someone else's Ampeg 810
7. If you're the Dep, all you have to say if you already have an originals gig booked on a particular date is that you can't do the covers gig, simple. If you're literally taking over, then i would heavily advise getting at least 2 guys who can dep for you if you get an originals gig through. Thats what i do, i gig 2/3 nights a week, every week of the year pretty much with my covers and when i get my originals gigs through (which are my priority) i have 3 really great deps i can rely on! BASS BASH MARCH 2008

OO i wonder whether Robbie wants to bring a couple of DR Cabs?! Is anyone bringing any Epifani or Schroeder cabs, lightweight stuff, me wanny try! I got my Lakland 44-02D, i'll bring my Encore/Precision/Jazz Build cos its cool, and maybe if my Jazz build is done, that to! All my other gear is pretty standard (US Jazz/ThingRay/Ashdown etc). Maybe My Shuker Upright if people are interested, still potentially for sale/trade btw!! Si
9. Well yeah, the majority of it is programmed Apart from the tracks those two players play on apparently lol Si
10. Definitely give Newtone a call, Malcolm will hook you up easy with a custom 12 string set!! Si
11. I hope you have a 4 string lol Maybe a 5 would be allowed....maybe But seriously, yeah do it If the people are right, then a lot of the time the tunes don't matter, its about playing with great musicians and learning from them! Si
12. +1 for Newtone Si
13. The image i get from SIT (not based on much really), is that they're much more interested in supplying bespoke strings to oddball build projects then firing out thousands of 40-100 sets to 'John Smith'. But I'm probably very much mistaken, i think they have more of a market presence in the US Si
14. Don't suppose anyone knows the deal with buying off Ebay from Australia? Is it the same import/handling/VAT situation as USA? Need to know within 20 hours lol Cheers Si
15. What i would consider as my main band is my Originals band, at the moment that doesn't gig half as much as my 'Other' covers band, which is out every friday and saturday every week...........ever lol. Whenever i have a date that clashes, which is happening more frequently because my originals band is taking off slowly (check Total Guitar this month ), i have 3 or so really good Dep bass players who step into the covers band, the band leader doesn't mind because they're good players who get the job done!. If for any reason none of the deps can cover me (which has never happened....touch wood), then i would honor whatever was booked first! Si
16. I voted Sunday because I won't be able to travel to Northampton on a saturday when i have a gig in the evening. I'm guessing there'll be less of a chance of people gigging on the sun night than the sat night Si
17. Bit odd this When i worked in a music shop, we would always do our best on a price if the instrument in question wasn't in top condition! But then we were a small business, not a National. So who knows Si
18. Yup its still between Two Tone, White and Black, the 'Purple Sparkle' comment was referring to a few posts above it. With regards to hardware, I'm definitly open to other options! I saw in another post that the 201 isn't always a perfect fit and "the 201 doesn't always fit the bridge base well and looses transmission" through the body, which i assume means a drop in sustain, i think that was a quote from Mr Shuker, It does look nice though. So perhaps a 203 would be better!?, although that looks similar to a Fender, and i was thinking about something more High-Mass like the Badass Haven't looked at Hipshot bridges yet. The Hipshot Ultralights are fantastic tuners, really love them on my lakland! And if i go for a Warmoth neck, which by all accounts are quite heavy, they may be necessary, even if the result is only a slight weight loss. I do have some Schallers on another bass which are quite nice, but around the same price as the Hipshots, so for the price i'd rather have the UltraLights Cheers Si
19.
not two tone sunburst! BORING!!! white in my opinion.
Haha, when you said two-tone was BORING, i was then expecting you to come out with "Purple Sparkle" or something.....but no.....White!! lol I love sunburst And Olympic White But i am coming round to the idea of Black But we'll see Also it seems you can get the Hipshot Ultralights in standard Peg Hole sizes, so that either opens up some other neck options, or knocks $25 off the Warmoth price I've also been considering Wizard pickups which i know are very popular, had a quick email with Andy. They're in the running i think, but it all still seems to point to the Dimarzios! hmmmm Si
20. I've been clobbered onstage a few times....bloody left handed guitarists!! TAXI !!! Si
21. i just want to clarify something .................. We're not all having sex with our basses are we??? ahh girls, right, good! The Funk - Sorry to hear about your situation, to carry on with the analogy...you don't need any firewood rubbish clogging up the mix, nows the time to concentrate on your own chops then go shopping for a much better instrument! or something Si
22.
Because, for along time, everything good in my life came to me because I played. That is no longer the case but it still feels like the safest place in the world to me. It helps me make friends, it is a creative outlet where I have no other, it earns me money, it relives stress, it brings me affirmation where I need it, it keeps me interested in what is going on in the world of music and art, its fun, its totally absorbing, it gives me a social life that sees me coming home with more money than when I went out (unlike most people's), it takes me to places I would probably otherwise not go and introduces me to people I would otherwise not meet (even TheBigBeefChief)..... and because I can. So why wouldn't I?
+1 Couldn't have put it better myself! Si
23. Thanks for the info Si
24. Ah i didn't know you could get Ultralights with standard post sizes! Hmmmmm Si
25. Ok so following on from my Encore/Fender-like/Allparts Precision build thread a couple of months ago (very happy with it, gig it regularly. Sound/song clips coming soon), i think I've caught some kind of bug. I couldn't resist buying this body from Kevbass: ...with a view to giving it the much needed TLC it requires. It's an alder Fender Highway body. I have a refinish hooked up from a family member who is a furniture builder/woodwork college tutor by trade and builds guitars for a hobby. The provisional refinish ideas are as follows: -Two-Tone Sunburst -Vintage/Alpine/Olympic White (a solid white basically) -A natural finish (might look boring with the alder body) Hopefully with a Nitro finish in all instances. Of course this all depends on what he has available to work with, which will become apparent when he sees the body and we talk more, he might say it'll have to be Black, who knows. The rest of the provisional spec is as follows: - Dimarzio UltraJazz set (high output, passive humbuckers) - Hipshot Ultralight Clover tuners (ala Lakland) - Badass II Bridge - Pickguard is most likely to be tort, although may leave it off if the finish has to be natural - Standard Jazz control plate and knobs Neck: I'm playing with the idea of a Warmoth Birdseye Maple neck (see Warmoth post in this same forum), mostly because i'd like the birdseye, and they also do the option to accommodate the smaller Hipshot tuners. This is open to anyones suggestion though, i don't think i want to go down the graphite route, its a bit pricey and i do like wood tones and aesthetics. The reason behind the Dimarzios at this stage is because i want to try and find a high output passive bass that can replace my active basses in my originals band (playing in Drop C), although am open to other ideas, what other hot/high output passive jazz p'ups are out there?. The reason for the Hipshots is because i really like them on my Lakkie 44-02D, and if i go for the Warmoth neck, they'll help keep the weight down. So thats about it i think at the mo, its very early stages, haven't even received the body yet lol But i got excited ! Si p.s. If anyone has any of the parts I've listed above for sale.....well you know....tell me!
