1. I have this too. Love the cream covering-much nicer than the bog-standard black. Saw the oxblood one too, but to quote Sideshow Bob- I had to go for that retro-50's charm It does feel like 100 watts is punching way above its weight, but its perfect for acoustic sessions and very small pub gigs. Stick a decent mic in front of it and it sounds lovely. The EQ section is amazing on it though-very clear with a fair bit of thump. I use mine with my custom jazz and my sienna 78 P and the tones are beautiful from it. Have to say though, it seems to love the Jazz-or maybe its me that prefers the tone A fantastic amp and well worth the price I reckon anyway. Have you got a battery for it yet? Just tried one with mine the other evening at a mate's place and it worked a treat. car charger is well handy too!
2. That is a fantastic amp! Any chance you might consider a trade? I am in Ireland aswell
3. Fair enough, just thought I´d ask as we´re headed over there for a few days. No worries mate
4. Any chance you could get the Sub-Lime to Oxford at the end of the month (between 24th and 27th?)
5. Worked my arse off in two horrible bars at weekends and bought my first bass-Yamaha RBX170 in black. After 45 mins of playing, the cheap strap I got with it broke and the bass hit the bare concrete floor in the garage, taking a massve chip out of the body, right above the input jack-instant relic and mojo! . covered the bass in stickers-forever reminding me of my humble punk origins. Called it Robin, because one morning I went out there to get my bike and there was a wee robin perched on the headstock, staring at me. My tech called round a few weeks ago to drop off some bits he´d done for me and noticed it. He asked me how the hell I´d learned to play on it-only noticed after many years how high the action was-like a bloody double bass!-it has never been set up It still has the original strings on it Thinkng of sticking on my wall or something like that Drive 20watt amp. Speaker is still good, but cranking it beyond halfway gives a low distortion. Still have both About two months later I won a Laney Richter R4 Stack in a local music shop giveaway. (lasted me years but sold it off a few years back) A few weeks after that, my parents bought me a white mim Fender Jazz for my birthday(still have that too) Glad I kept my first set up though
6. That 78 P is gorgeous! If you ever decide to move it on, I´m looking for one of these to complete a 78 hat-trick
7. Gibson Thunderbird Studio V Amazing and well within that budget. The only 5er I own and definately the nicest of the ones I´ve tried. Fast, slim neck and seriously hot pickups! Not too much neck dive either. Also, it looks bloody cool! Never tried a Warwick 5er, but have heard good things about them.
8. Of the two options you have listed, would be more inclined to go with the DH. I had a blowtorch for a wee wee bt when they came out, and I just couldn´t get on with it. Tried so many basses and amp combinations and tried every possible combination of adjustments and settings and couldn´t get the sound I was after. It did come close in places, but just not the rel thing. Have you considered the Electro Harmonix range at all? as another person has said on here? I use only EHX stuff now (aside from a Fender PT tuner and Boss PSM 5 (effects loop/poweer supply unit) and they make some amazing pedals-nothing really gets near them in terms of warmth and clarity-unless its got valves in it. And if ts fuzz and distorton you´re after, try the Bass Big Muff-amazing lttle box. Also worth considering is the newer green Muff with Tone Wicker-great sound. Another idea might be to try and track down a Mesa Boogie Bottle Rocket or V Twin-expensive and also a unique sound. The only other alternative I would consider might be the Fender Sub-Lime Bass Fuzz. Huge pedal, but bgger sound!
9. Hi guys. My name is Colin and I have to say, this s great thread so far, some really cool stuff! Ok, so the band I´m currently playing with is called CO2 (hate the name, as do all of us now ) We are a 4 (soon to be 5) piece Rock band. We don´t have a specifc genre-there are some acoustic-led tracks, some garage rock/punk, metal and even disco type songs too. The band consists of 2 girls-Vox & Acoustic gtr, Harmony vox & Lead gtr and 2 guys-me on bass and bk vox and a very talented drummer. We´ve been together just over a year now. We have done a few recording sessions here and there, released an E.P. and are currently in the early stages of recording our first full length album, hoping to have it done by early September of this year. We are about to add a second guitarist (a mate of mine from a punk band I was in in last year) to fill out live performances a bit more. Anyways, enough of the jibber-jabber Find us on Myspace and let me know what ye think : Co2
10. Do it man! You´d be stupid NOT to! Pty they arent Ampegs though I didn´t NEED a second Marshall vbc412, but damned if I let that stop me from getting one (at a very good price mind you) to create a VBA400 fullstack! Weighs a ton and I need help shifting it (cases just massaged the ego more ) but it sounds and looks amzing!!! Im sorted for Wembley should In ever get the call Seriously though, my amp GAS is nearly depleted permanently (just want an Ampeg SVT for my other rig). Now if I could only get rid of bass GAS
11. I am very sorry for your loss and my sympathies are with his family. I lost someone close recently to cancer. It is an awful feeling. This is truly a beautiful instrument. He must have considered you a really good friend. Hopefully, you will get many years of enjoyment from it. All the best mate, Colin
12.
I found pics of the bass. I have to say I like it and the price is very reasonable. I just wish it had eb-3 sort of circuitry with a pickup switch and vol and tone for each pickup. And some F holes wouldn't go a miss, nore would a trapeze bridge. What was the balance like?it looks head heavy
Hi, From what I remember (only got about 20 mins with t), It wasn´t very top heavy. though I had a fairly wide leather strap. The sound (played through a small Fender amp) was somewhere in Gibson EB/Dearmond Starfire territory. I´m sure the controls were vol/vol/tone. I´m also sure the bass I tried had a black pckguard, and not a shell one like the few I´ve seen around For the money, it really is a lovely bass. I agree about F-holes, though have noticed with their gutars, some do tend to feedback a tad more than other hollowbodies. I noticed this while running the sound desk at the local youth center band nights One kid who has one (bought from my tech) has taken to putting a wee bit of yellow foam in the F-hole and this seems to reduce feedback. Still, they are right up ther with my Flamekat in terms of tone-sweet one minute/face melting the next! The way rock n´roll should be!
13. The reason they are on a par with Epiphone is because all the high end Epiphone stuff (korea) is built by Peerless- e.g. Flamekat, Wildcat, Alleykat guitars (I have a Flamekat for my rockabilly band) My tech is the sole Irish distributor for Peerless. I have tried the bass and I have to say, it is a lovely sounding instrument. It was a nice round sound, with a nice touch of snappy top-end. Hardware and finish were cool too (kind of a grey fade if I remember) Didnt like the look of the bridge tho-was sharper (edges) than my TBird. Definately a great alternative to a Gretsch bass (love Gretsch, but the basses are awful sounding for the most part). So I guess in that respect, Peerless are more Gretsch than Gretsch
14. I like that. The tune is pretty cool too Major GAS for a new Am DLX Precision (black/black/maple)!!!
15. I've had some serious bargains over the last while Got a Mark Hoppus sig in Pink for a song, A cheap SUB-in perfect nick An American Deluxe Precision-very cheap! best of all was a multi-trade with no money involved at all and a monster of a result: Traded a backup Fender BXR combo I bought for 150euros, for a Fender 400 PRO head Had it for two years, then traded it for Marshall TSL 100 guitar half-stack (had it for 6 weeks, never used) Traded that for a fully cased Marshall VBA400 and VBC412 Best 150 investment ever, never happier!
16. Multiple Uses, Specifically In Contemporary Music And Noise
17. The neck on my Gibson Thunderbird Studio V is quite slim, though I cant compare it to many, as its the only one I´ve owned But, I have played a few and it has by far the thinnest neck of all I have tried. Lovely bass
18.
If it has 24 frets it is possibly a Mexican Jazz 24 QMT which were released a few years back. Should be a nice bass, but £900 sounds quite high to me as they were a lot less than that new. Of course it may be something else and I could be wrong!
Think that one was actually made in Korea. Came in Quilted Tobacco (4 or 5 string) and flat black They also had Duncan Basslines pups This one sounds like an American Deluxe Jazz FMT 900 is a little steep for a second hand one, though I have seen a few go for close to that. I would be more likely to go for one around the 650-800 mark
19. Hi, From reading your post, I would reckon that your best bet would be to try and track down an original as opposed to the RI They tend to go for 500 or less on ebay and are usually n great condition at that price. If you are unsure about the RI, try one out locally. But I dont think they will be as good as the original though, if the core bass tone of this band you like and want to copy is produced by an original Grabber. I say, get bidding on the bay!
20. These look promising. I have 97 P Deluxe and its my main gigging bass. Have to say its great, but these look much nicer!
21. Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet (Shortscale) Aria Pro II Cardinal in Red Epiphone EB3 in Polaris White Vintage Modified Precision Vintage modified jazz Dano DC 59 RI Aria Diamond (Mosrite copy) Red A Rickenfaker Eastwood Classic IV
22. Is that 300 for the Ampeg PortaBass head and cab, or just the head? :brow:
23.
I love how you've got to get your rig outdoors to put it all together
Yeah, Me and my mate who does flight cases and stuff, were putting a few together and then he said why not just take some pics and stick em up here. Would never be able to shift that lot myself-I´m only little!
