Hello! I've never played a 2009 Fender, nor do I have plans to, but to help you justify your sweeping statement (which seems to fly in the face of everything I've heard).. 1) What's your usual bass? 2) Were the pickup 'weak', or was the output just lower than your current bass? 3) In what way did the tuners feel like they were going to fall apart? Were they loose? Did they feel flimsy? 4) In what way was the finish on the neck bad? Was it rippled? 5) Is there a chance you picked up a bad one? 6) Is there a chance the setup wasn't to your taste? Peace out! WoT.B x
1. I had an early 90's MIJ P bass for about 2 years and it was an amazing bass. It was un-moddified as well as i hadnt got the money to do anything to it plus I didn't want to midify it anyways, But now the 2 basses I have are a Tobias Toby Pro 4 and a heavily moddified Fender P, but I wasn't comparing any of those 2 basses to the one I played, I compared it to the 98 model I also played last night which i mentioned in the first post 2. Pickup sounded weak, didn't pack the usual P bass punch 3. Tuners felt very flimsy and quite loose (and i dont know if they were Hipshot Ultralites or not, but they were the small ones with the lip over the back and the "F" stamped on) 4. The finish wasn't to my liking as it seemed to be to, like, dry if you get what i mean? 5. It might be a bad one, I wasn't putting all Fender 2009 P basses into the same category, some might be better, its just this one has put me off buying one. 6. the setup was really good on it, i couldnt complain about the setup. nice low action on it. As i said, it was my opinion on them, and alot of people will probably disagree, as they have already haha. Also, some said about the 57 P Reissues, I played one today in Coda Music shop in Luton and it was a much nicer sounding/feeling bass. Completely different kettle of fish compared to the 2009 Standard american P. I'm not saying to anyone, Don't buy the new P bass as i think they're crap, I was just giving my opinion on the one I played as alot of people seem to do that on here, and in reply to Clarky, as i mentioned, It wasn't my bass, it was a mate who's band I tech for who owned both the 2009 and 1998 basses. Oh, someone said I need to consider changing my user name, found that quite funny =P -
And it was shocking... Absolutely awful bass. I love Fender Precision Basses but the new Fender AM P bass is terrible. The machine heads feel like theyre going to fall apart, the pickups are weak and the finish on the neck is awful. I know alot of people will disagree with me but i was really dissapointed with this bass. As said, it was pretty much brand new, had been purchased only a month before and setup professionally a few nights ago. It wasn't mine thank god, it was a mates who's band I was teching for. It's completely standard as he's made no modifications to it. Oh, and just to say, I also used a 1998 American Fender P Bass tonight (also his and also completely un-moddified) and it was a dream to play, again, pickups were a bit weak but the tuners felt like they would stay in tune and the finish on the neck was so much better. I really wanted a 2009 model, but I shall definately be looking for a pre 2000 model... Preferabley in white with a black scratchplate... and maple fretboard... And I think I may have just got a semi... OOOPS! =P But yeah, to round up, alot of people will probably disagree with me, but this is my opinion on them. Older Fender's are so much better than the new ones! Peace out! Stevie.D x

Woah? There were other members in Dire Straits 0_0 Take a step back and say that again?!?!?! Nah, John Illsley was a seriously great bass player and his rhythmic bass lines certainly did compliment Mark's (ego) guitar lines but it's just sad to me that Mark Knopfler was such an egotistical sod. Demanding that it be "Mark Knopfler Featuring The Dire Straits" on some of the Greatest Hits albums etc etc DS played Woburn Abbey Sculpture Gallery for someone's do they had on there, I didn't go, I was to young, but my Dad (who was the head chef at Woburn at the time) said he really looked forward to seeing them play, and was really disappointed afterwards because of Mark's lack of stage presence, apparently he didn't talk to the crowd once or even introduce any songs, they just flowed through them all which I think is wrong Such a shame...

Geddy Lee Jazz vs American Series Jazz 08/09
StevieD_FenderP2009 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I've played both and really like both Reason for liking the Geddy Lee: Thin neck - i prefer the thin neck on the geddy lee as i prefer thin necks in general badass bridge - i really like the way badass bridges change the way basses play And thats it... As for the american standard: Noiseless pickups - no hum choice of finishes - much more varied range than the Geddy choice of string loading - yeah, i love the badass bridges but i do like the choice of through body or top loading and everything else on the bass So actually, yeah, i prefer the american standard and i'd go for that -
Used to have an EB180 and it was one of the best sounding amps ive used but i got lured in by the green =P Saying that though, i now use an Ashdown MAG410T cabinet and i haven't heard a better amp in all honesty. Wish it was a bit lighter though haha! So yeah, Big up ashdown! If i had to change, i'd buy a Marshall JCM800 4x12 Bass cab and fit it with 4 12" Ashdown blue line speakers and the tweeter ashdown use =D

I totally agree with you dude
-
Thing is, I'm quite interested, But I can't warrant buying it incase its as useful as a piece of damp firewood... I really want a spector and i know the Legend passive series are decent basses (played both a 4 and 6 string and loved them) but I just couldn't buy this one
-
Looks a bit suspicious to me, i looked at it and read all the description on it... i dunno, just looks a bit wierd that a Spector Legend 4 is up for sale for £80...
-
hopefully they'll be delayed into never coming out =P God i hate Peavey equipment!

Really dude? Oh that sucks then I was eventually planning on kitting it out with EV12L Vintage Bass speakers or Ashdown BlueLine 12" speakers (same as in the MAG410, Mag810, ABM410 and ABM810 etc but the 12" version) but it doesn't look like i'll be doing that yet Cheers for that advice man Oh, and message for Zach, If i do get one and end up not liking it at all, i'll let you know man. Hows the mockingbird dude? really miss the birds tone ='(

Hi guys I've been searching for ages for which model of the DBX 160 Compressor Steve Harris (Iron Maiden Bassist) uses in his rig as i know whichever one it is he uses is really good as he spoke about the components of his rig in an interview once and said the compressor really helped boost the power of his whole sound So far, ive seen that there's a DBX 160A, 160X, 160XT and a 160 tube compressor (I don't know if this was one of the previous ones i mentioned) Reason is, I need a compressor to boost the high end of my sound up a little bit as it's not to great on any of my basses (Fender P w/ SD SPB-3 and Tobias Toby Pro 4 Active) as i do like to flick up and down the octave range on my bass for solos etc So if anyone could help me on this one it would be great. Also, if anyones got any advise at all on naturally boosting the strength of the signal from the G string on my basses that would be great too Cheers guys! Stevie Dewar

I've been presented with the quite rare chance to own a piece of history and something i've been longing for A Marshall 1985 Marshall JCM800 Bass Series 4x12 1935A Cabinet loaded with Celestion g12 65 speakers I would love to buy it but... and heres the big but (lol, sorry couldnt help but laugh there), I have an Ashdown MAG410T cabinet and i do love the tone it gives me when paired with my Trace GP12 and i dont know if i should change it I have wanted the JCM800 Bass Series 4x12 for... Since i got into bass and the 2 guitarists in my band both use 4x12 angeled marshall cabinets so it would look UBER f***ing COOL if i used one too (maybe even an endorsement deal from Jimmy himself as theyre only based 10 minutes down the road from me) Let me know what you think guys! Cheers

Isn't the middle one, the Aria SB1000 the model Cliff Burton used and later had turned into a signature model? Beautiful collection dude!
