1.
Oooh If you want to nail the sound exactly be prepared to spend A LOT on effects, loopers to split the signals and probably 3 amps (nevermind the basses). If you are looking for more of an approximation go with - Jazz Bass 2 Big Muffs - 1 Russian (for a more intense Fuzz) and 1 Bass Big Muff (for a more blended sound) 1 Digitech Bass Synth Wah 1 Korg G-5 if you can find one (instead of the crazily overpriced Deep Impact) 1 EH Small Clone Chorus & if budget were to allow an EH Small Stone Phaser Thats what i'd do. His core sounds are a mix of heavy and blended fuzzes and more synthesized tones. A multi will only get you so far... Also its also a common misconception that the Time Is Running Out tone comes from the Deep Impact, it is actually blended clean and fuzz tones (from Russian Big Muff) underneath a Roland synth (cant remember which at the mo).
...........and don't forget - smoke a pipe!!!!
2. Bought PSU power thingy with 8 plugs for my guit#r pedalboard. Excellent service - would deffo buy again!! Cheerzz Graham
3.
Probably done before, but here goes. Many music shops will have a banned list up in the shop so if you demo a gtr or something, they will have a note saying no 'smoke of the water', sunshine of your love, sultans' riffs as they get them played to death..often badly, by all and sundry. They really just don't want to hear them over and over In the same vein, what songs would you ban or veto on a gig? For my regular band, it is stuff like 'Sex on Fire, Dakota and Times like these', to name just 3 that should get the veto. Deps bands are harder, but 'Mustang, Superstition, Funky White boy' etc are pretty there as well. The point being..if you go to see a band and they are pretty straight ahead covers, what makes you GROAN, and think play something not every band and their dog plays here..? rant rant..!!
Highway to Hell, Rock'n'Roll, Caroline, Whole Lotta Rosie............. Trouble is, people request these chuffing songs..
4. Just got one of these - excellent service!!!
5.
This guy is bloody ridiculous....anyone know who he is? Making Robbie Williams sound good!>? Anyhow, very glad i waited around to watch this, his band are f***ing ace. For a gash tune. Trav
Yeah his band are always good - Robbie over-works it imo. And the duet with GB was toe-curling!!!
6.
hee hee, lucky you... I spent 3 years as a dealer watching a 7 in 10 return rate. Either way, this guy is making it sound good.
Yawn, yawn, here we go again - slag off Ashdown time. Mine's never gone wrong.....
7. Sorry, he does nothing for me..
8.
I'd like to believe this Clarky but I think the real reason is because we all have a guy-crush on Chris!
Wot - wearing that friggin cap???? lol
9. Forgot to mention - it's a errrr.... Guit#r amp!!!
10. I know this is a bit of a mad punt - but hey!! MINT ungigged HH V-S Musician 2x12 Combo - for the collector!! This was made in Cambridge UK!! It is in absolute mint condition - never been gigged, has original cover and original owner instructions. It is solid-state but with 'valve sound' capability. £200 posted (UK)
11.
'Proper' ad with pics etc now posted. Couldn't access the computer with pics on it last night so thought I'd prepare you all - apologies if I offended anyone (board member or mods). Oh and Graham (the original seller) would like to buy it back if he ever comes into funds so anyone who wants to try a G&L has a prospective buyer if they don't like it...
Yup!! I'd have it back alright, just too skint at the mo' Here's a pic when it was in my ownership (the one in the middle lol)
12. I don't use any pedals when i'm gigging, (except for the tuner). Am I misssing out on anything? What pedal/effect/gizmo would you never be without?
13.
When there are three or four guitars per guitarist, and they're all expensive ones, you know it's not a gig it's some middle-aged men taking their collections out for a viewing. And they will all be trying to sound like Dave Gilmour.
Yup - PRS lol This is just for fun remember!!!!!
14. I expect most of us play gigs rather than watch them. However, us musical-types can be right bitches sometimes If/When you go to a pub gig, and you see the band setting up, you look at the gear etc............. What gear makes you think....'Omg...they're gonna be a bit crap....???? We've all done it, I know I have..............
15.
The great songs have ones I don't notice and that's the point for me. They just work as part of the whole. If I really like a song I hardly ever seperate the bassline from the songs as a whole when I'm listening to it. As I've said I love the song Next To You and he's bashing away at the open E for a large part of it but it works perfectly. So I'll go for that one.
Spot on!!! I have always thought if you don't notice the bassline, it's genius. And 'Next To You' gets my vote too. I also like silddx's analogy '..bass player as a songwriter...rather than....as a muso....' I can't stand the term - 'muso'.....
16. Dahn in the Tube Station at Midnight has Bruce Foxton tying his fingers in knots!!!
17. I'm in two bands - one practices every other Saturday (getting ready to gig), the other band gigs' every weekend and rarely practice/rehearse. Which makes it tricky adding new songs to the set...
18.
"Mr"? I think that's taking politeness a little far when referring to drummers....particularly that one!!!
....Yes, you're quite right, (must remember the ear plugs next time he deps for our band)!
19. Hehe I see Mr Glen Buck playing the drums in the pic!!!
20. Electro Harmonix White Finger complete with box, instructions, CD etc etc. £45.00 posted.
21. Hi Mr Hagguy! - Gawd'n'bennet - I'd have this like a shot if I had the wonga, but I don't, so I won't! Bump for a sexy ass Geeeetarrr!!
22.
Fender basses were used in all the studios because they had the right sound and if all players used the same bass the engineers could dial in the bass in 10 seconds. This was in the days of 3 takes and you're out! With most of the popular and successful records coming out with the Fender sound no bass player was going to buy anything else. The ball had started rolling and hasn't stopped yet!
....the crux of the issue....they do what it says on the tin.......
23. Offered Paul Weller a fag at post Jam gig 'meet the band' line-up.
24.
And on another day it would have been played different, feel the music. put your stamp on it. x
Agreed!!! Personally, I can't stand the song - Free did many superior songs, but Alright Now has to be played 'cos it's the only one people know - apart from Wishing bloody Well!!!!
25. Well, I really like my CV Squier Jazz (won't post pic cos we know what they look like), but miss my G&L Wunkay which I sold to Mickeyboro. Been gassing for a 1980's Jap ESP I spied recently :-)
