1. The current US models are stunning but I recently played one back to back with a MIM Jazz and was amazed just how much the MIM Standard has raised it's game to go with last year's price hike. I didn't think it was as good but it was better than the £300 price difference. A lot of CIJ stuff crops up here so waiting for a second hand bargain could be the order of the day. I think it would help to know more about your current amp set up & what you are hoping for before people / I commit to a set in stone opinion. I'll get shot for saying this & I base it on the Precisions as I've not played a Squier Jazz but whilst the current crop of Squiers are really good, the ones I've tried were not in the same league as the Fenders. That said it could just be the couple I tried?
2. I use a POD for home recording. Forget trying to replicate your live sound in a home enviroment, I plug into the POD and it is much easier. It's not perfect but it's a lot easier and quicker.
3. Just having a clearout of my music room which is part inspired by a new boiler purchase that is impending & worryingly I've already been sidetracked by a 1970s bitsa Precision project that I really don't need at the moment (but can't help myself!). So, I have the following pedals & effects for sale; I was going to list this under a new thread but I also have an Electro Static Condensor mic PGT-60 that was for recording acoustic instruments at home. It doesn't come with a lead as it never did (I can throw one in for an extra £5 if you want one) but with UK delivery it's yours for £40 Next, linking in with the Pod v2, I have a Lick Library DVD manual for the Pod XT, live and V2 Pods. This with UK postage is £14 [s]A Guitar v2 Pod. The machine can be used for bass (& I have) as it has a bass setting but really it's for home recording on a guitar. I have the original box and all the bits. Although the box is probably best described as "very good condition" i.e. no rips / tears but 3yrs old so general wear marks, the actual POD is pretty much immaculate. Thrown into the sale is the "Pod Settings Bible" which helps you get halfway decent approximations of some famous sounds. All in with UK postage I am looking for £75[/s] EBAY'D [s]Next up we have an unused Soundlab 6 output pedal power bank. I bought one off EBay, it was faulty (seller had 100% feedback) so mine went back and he sent this out as a fully tested replacement. By this time I'd decided against using 6 pedals so never used it. £18 including UK postage[/s] [s]Then there's my MXR Super Comp pedal. This really is immaculate and has the original box and everything that came with it (just leaflets etc). The last 2 pedals I've sold have had sellers message me to say "did you actually use it?" because the condition was so good. I do look after my kit and this has sat on a pedal board with the box kept in storage. I'm looking for £49 delivered to a UK address.[/s] [s]Staying on the MXR pedal theme, I have an MXR Phase 90 that is in exactly the same condition as above. Once again I'd be looking for £49 again delivered to a UK address.[/s] EBAY'D [s]Returning to Pod, I have a Bass Floor Pod that once again is in great condition. Actually this one was only ever used a handful of times for home use. The theory was that I was going to use it for tuning my upright on stage but I've since found the clip on tuner attached to the bridge does the job just fine. Once again all the bits that came with it are still there and the box is in decent condition - the POD is immaculate. I'm looking for £75 with UK postage. [/s] EBAY'D There is a feedback thread link below this post if you wish to check me out. I do take paypal and I always manage to make it to the post office within one working day of the payment being received. I'm attaching some pics of my actual items within this post. I won't ship overseas as we have enough problems with the UK post (thankfully, touch wood, I've only been affected as a buyer) and should the worst happen I don't want a long drawn out claim. Equally I'm on Basschat a few times throughout each day so will aim to reply to PMs pretty promptly. I think all of these items are priced to sell & I've checked prices with other Basschat & EBay listings. I've priced them all to shift quickly rather so I'm not expecting to haggle them down. Thanks for looking
4. Hey Stu - Welcome to Basschat. The phrase "so far" is a dangerous phrase to use when discussing gear on these pages!
5.
Unfortunately no Bun E Carlos, currently being replaced by Rick Neilson's son.
Presumably just for the tour?
I saw them supporting Motley Crue of all bands way back on the Crue's Theatre Of Pain tour at Hammy. Great gig!! That was the night (Valentine's Day) that Nikki went out straight after the gig, scored some brown, OD'ed and was pronounced clinically dead in hospital. Clever lad!
I usually just have a diet coke, wipe down the strings & pack away. Less exciting but I feel good the next morning
6.
A photo from 2001
Love the cat! Who's signed that Jazz?
7. OTPJ is right. The mid-late 80s had flipped the logo sizes around by that stage, these are early JV
8. 98.5% feedback, no information... I'd avoid on principle even though it is probably genuine. Why he hasn't spent a couple of minutes just typing some info is beyond me
9. We've had the Les Paul, we've had the Strat, we've had the tele (& we had the Austen Maxi!?), now finally the bass manual is coming http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fender-Bass-Manual..._tit_15_rdssss0
10. They look great. Tokai is basically the Fender Japan factory anyway so you know they are going to be good
11. Or in a funkier colour....
12. Don't forget the P's! http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/shopping/goods/...1&id=155855 I've been admiring this one for months
13. This'll do me http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/shopping/goods/...1&id=157762
14.
There, better?
I think it's impossible to have a Basschat pole without missing off something. You just can't win! Now, can I change my vote?
15. Matt bought my Boss tuner pedal off me. No hanging about, quick paypal payment and no hassles. Another great basschat transaction.
16. My bass sits below my belt and I've raised the height a lot as I've got older!
17. I opted for 62RI CIJ although I should really be "No thanks, I'll take a precision" as it's always my bass of choice. I do like the look of Jazzes though. I don't own a Fender Jazz but would like to own one. Realistically it'll be what I voted for but I'd ideally like a 70s original that would be about £1500 (no voting option for that though). Still, I'm not in the market at the moment nor am I likely to be anytime soon.
18. I think it'd be more useful if you told us what you like, what you play & what is possible. Amps are less sexy than buying instruments but probably a better investment
19. Both sound perfectly respectable to me. Here they are embedded if anyone prefers them this way
20. Welcome to Basschat - I too would like to see those vintage Fenders!
21. I've noticed www.soundslive.co.uk and GAK are doing great deals on Flatwounds, often cheaper than the string specialists. That said I am happy with Fender strings & haven't ventured into the realms of the really expensive brands.
22.
I like a playable bass that sounds great. If it fails either of these, what't the point in having it...? That said, I'm almost totally immune the the effects of different neck profiles. My J and P are polar opposites, but I adapt to whichever no problem.
Couldn't have put it better myself. You stick with a bass you like & you adapt around it. I used to like light gauge strings but since getting on the upright I've learnt to go heavier and work harder with what I have.
23. Hey Chris - I drove through California last month & stayed at the Joshua Tree. What an amazing part of the world. Welcome to Basschat
24. I too missed that thread but have moaned about the vocalist on my personal Facebook. Bass is cool though
25. I don't think there is a hard & fast answer. I play Americana / roots stuff so my role is obviously different from a funk player and different from a rockabilly player. I see it as slotting in between the drums and the lead instruments. I'm a backroom boy, an engine driver. I stand out when I mess up! That said I have a couple of walking lines where I get to shine a little more. For all the knocking of country players, people should hear the Nashville bassists let rip in soundcheck. They can do it all but stay pretty straight and locked in when they play in a band situation.
