As I am sure a few people on this forum will have seen before, I totally rave about Sandberg basses. Despite a big fall out with the guys at Synergy Distribution regarding a former endorsement, I have decided to go a bit crazy and take out a big loan to treat myself to a new bass. Now when I initially had this idea a few weeks ago, there would have been no competition for a Cali JM5, but I went into a shop and had a bash on a Spector Euro LX 5 and for the price I was totally blown away by the sound, feel and ease of which I could play it despite being so hung over I was shaking like a leaf, made the shop reek of booze and had to wear my aviators indoors. The specific Spector I am looking at is for sale on this forum and has a Schack eq fitted, so I guess I want to know peoples opinions on that as well as Spectors in general. If anyone has alternatives my budget is about a grand........

Sound Control in Salford might have a few decent ones or maybe Music Ground on Oxford Road. Aside from that I don't really know where to suggest.

I have just bought one of the slightly older SVT3 heads from a very pleasant young chappy on this forum. Now on receiving said amp, I plugged it in to find that it was VERY quiet. Having the volume and gain on half and the eq volume on pretty much full gave me sufficient volume to play along to a cd. Now I have since discovered that the cab is a 4ohm jobby which is even more alarming because that should mean I am louder?! Also the tube gain knob makes some rather odd crackly noises when turning it and when i turn it right down the sound actually cuts out altogether for a brief second then comes back. I don't want to have to send the amp back but I aint so keen on the idea of having an amp that I have forked out for which needs lots of repairs so if anyone can give me any idea what it could be that would be great =) The chap I purchased from informs me the tubes are all in working order......

Me me me!! I am coming and will be bringing the following - 1 x crate of Tennents Super T (or equivalent revolting tramp fodder) 1 x inflatable kangaroo maybe a bass or two

I might well be up for this, I used to live in St Annes so I know one or two places and if I find a place to crash I would probably be up for a few ales after

Thanks for all the info guys it's mega helpful As for pricing, I don't want to cut corners to make it cheaper and compromise on quality, but I am aware of the fact that a home brewed cab will be much better value for money than buying the usual cabs. Thanks again everyone!!

Yeah I have just had a read through the sticky'd cab thread as well. I'm keen to get an idea as to how much the cabs are going to cost me to build really more than anything.

Hey there I am thinking of putting together some home made cabs and just wondered what peoples experiences were in terms of price and performance? I have just bought me an Ampeg SVT 3 and fancy something more cost effective than paying for Ampeg cabs, probably thinking of the usual combination of 10's and 15's - nothing too clever! If anyone has any recommendations that would be great =) J
