This is a good idea!! Band - Veils Genre - Metal Area - Manchester Webby - www.myspace.com/veilsband If you go to youtube and search "Veils Zavvi" there are a few live vids of us up there. We are really keen on sorting a midlands show out as a Nottingham based label are interested in us, so if anyone can help on that front that would be great. We need a good support slot ideally, we are pulling in about 200-300 a show in Manchester but I doubt we would do that elsewhere. We would be able to offer a show for any band who can fix us up something tasty

I too have seen this bass

I made a slightly bitter and drunken post on here a while ago selling my Trace combo - apologies to the mods and the majority of BC members for that. Anyhoo - I am selling my Trace combo. It's a 4x10 jobby, plenty of battle scars as I believe it is fairly old - probably pre-Gibson, if anyone would like to tell me how I can work that out that would be great (I'm not well versed in that kinda thing). At the moment I have pics on my phone but am not able to get them up just yet. I am more than happy to MMS them to anyone who may be interested for the time being. While this combo does have battle scars, it still sounds REALLY good, it's 300-and-something watts and VERY loud. Also I only use it at practice, so it's not been used too heavily by me I don't know what I want price-wise, I am more interested in a trade with cash either way depending on what is traded. Things I am interested in include..... 4 string Ray (not black, if you have teal or blueburst, GET IN TOUCH!!!) Sandberg Cali JM 4 Fender MIA/J Jazz Warwick Streamer LX or Jazzman Sansamp BDDI Any other interesting effects, particularly a REALLY dirty fuzz or overdrive If you are interested and have something not in the list, try me anyway!! If you want the pics by MMS, pm me your mobile number!!

I have seen this bass in person and the pictures aren't doing it justice the grain is really sweet Also I have played the above mentioned singlecut and its a corker I really cant wait to have my Shuker
-
Hmmmmm I really need to play a few Sei's. Is there anyone in the Manchester area who owns a Sei and would be willing to let me have a little tinker?? I do intend to get one at some point in my life because the Original 5 is just the sexiest looking beast ever EDIT - I might also add that I didn't intend to leave ACG out of that before, genuine mistake and I admire his work greatly!
-
Awwwwwwwww congrats dude!!!!!! Also I totally agree with what you have said regards luthier vs luthier. I have limited experience of Sei basses and more of Shuker and my only qualm with Shuker will be addressed in my build, for those who are wondering, I believe Jon's basses are sometimes a little light, I am a big guy and like some weight and I move about a hell of a lot on stage so I need it to feel very robust. But as many people have stated, it's a kind of horses for courses thing. I'm just wondering if anyone would dismiss both Martin and Jon in favour of someone else? Now that would be a turn up for the books........
That blows every Shuker I've seen out of the water. Absolutley stunning Mike!
It's a very very nice bass and sounds fantastic too, but I would beg to differ on that one
-
I might well take you up on that
-
Now that does look pretty awesome! Hmmmm.....I see a little chat with Jon coming on friday.......not quite sure exactly what I want to go for, and I also see nothing wrong with the shape of his basses, I just fancy something just that little bit individual
Hey, what shape are you going for? Just the regular dual cut-away job or something more custom? I never really dug the original Shuker dual cut-away shape before, but it's recent incarnation looks great! Cheers, Eude
Well I quite like the shape, although I am toying with the idea of tweaking a bit, the one shape of bass which totally gets me is the Sei Original. There used to be a black and white pic of James Leach from Sikth up on myspace and it is just the ultimate bass shot for me, I'd link you but its been taken down. So if I am to tweak the shape, then it will be something like that. Also one thing I didn't mention is that I have asked Jon to make this bass a little heavier than his usual. I have found Jon's basses to be a tad on the light side and with me being a big lad I like to feel like I am holding something substantial. Especially as I really move around a lot on stage!

Well there are one or two complications with the Warwick thing. And also, I think anyone who has played Jon's basses knows that he is likely to build something which blows a Warwick out of the water for less. Nothing against Warwick, they are nice basses, but to be endorsed by someone who is going to build me something to my spec which has that personal touch is really worth something to me, as is supporting a local luthier...... .......and just look at those woods! Something like that from Warwick would cost me 7 arms, 5 legs, several eyes, 2 livers, 2 gall bladders and a pancreas!
-
Reetooooooo Just come back from seeing Jon today and it looks like I am going ahead with a build and my endorsement will be coming from him instead of Warwick! Edit - full spec as follows 5 string White ash body African striped ebony top Snakewood fretboard Polyester basecoat Gloss topcoat 34" scale 24 jumbo frets 5 piece maple / wenge laminated neck Delano MM5FE Delano JMVC5FE Shuker 3 band eq, vol, pan, treble, mid, bass, internal mid freq control and circuit gain, active/passive switch Blue side LED's operated by a magical toggle switch of justice Schaller 2000 bridge Black hardware Gotoh tuners Brass nut We are going to play about with string spacing as I wanted a little wider, but this will effect the pickups used. But I think that about covers it...... Here is a pic of the wood being used for the fretboard Here is the top being used And this is a body Jon had about which he was working on, so for the sake of getting a feel for the contrast, here is what the top and fretboard look like together, mine will not be a singlecut

An update......... At the same time as sending off to Warwick, I approached several other companies. Since then I have received offers from pretty much all of them and I am now backing away from the Warwick thingy.......those who explore the forums will pick up before long what I have decided on, those who don't explore or don't care....errrr....you will probably see before long

Thanks guys

I don't think I am likely to do that As for the bass, I won't go for another $$, I will 99.9% certain go for a Stage I. The only other likelihood is a Streamer LX. I will be getting a coloured oil of some kind, just undecided as to exactly what colour!

Yeah Joe, I am back in with the Veils boys. Things cooled off for a little while as I was having one or two personal problems which I had to deal with so Darryl Clarkson stepped into the breach and they contacted me recently to ask me if I was fit to come back. And no, it isn't 20% off dealer price As for the Sandberg thing, that deal was off a long time ago and I have all correspondence with them kept safe anyway I am soooooo excited about this!!
-
I've used Warwick basses in the past - as you can see from the av and I offloaded that to fund my Sandberg endorsement. Sandberg produce wonderful instruments, but already in the contact I have had with Warwick they have been far more approachable. To answer the question about the bass, I have pretty much free reign over what bass I have. Obviously I am not at the stage where I get it for completely free so it is up to me really what I want. But I already know I am going for a 5 string Streamer Stage I, and I would get it in Nirvana Black, but Darryl from Profane has exactly the same bass, and he filled in for me while I had a brief break from the band recently and he would probably think I am going to start stalking him so I am thinking maybe green......guess I will just have to see in the flesh what they look like!
-
Fortunately I have joined a band which has a bit of a rep before things have even kicked off, probably due to the bands of the previous members. I decided yesterday that I may as well chance my arm at chasing up some endorsements, after all I have been endorsed through a band with much less clobber. So I decided to email Warwick.........low and behold I have been accepted!!!! I have to travel to Germany to go and meet the guys at their HQ, play on some gear and then have me a nice shiny new bass and maybe an amp too!!! I really cannot believe my luck!!!
-
I reckon they are likely to be pretty similar in feel and build quality to Sandbergs, if this is the case, buy one
-
Ya I spotted the Clovers a lil while back and was interested straight away. They look real nice and Delano pups are just the bomb [=

As I am sure a few people on this forum will have seen before, I totally rave about Sandberg basses. Despite a big fall out with the guys at Synergy Distribution regarding a former endorsement, I have decided to go a bit crazy and take out a big loan to treat myself to a new bass. Now when I initially had this idea a few weeks ago, there would have been no competition for a Cali JM5, but I went into a shop and had a bash on a Spector Euro LX 5 and for the price I was totally blown away by the sound, feel and ease of which I could play it despite being so hung over I was shaking like a leaf, made the shop reek of booze and had to wear my aviators indoors. The specific Spector I am looking at is for sale on this forum and has a Schack eq fitted, so I guess I want to know peoples opinions on that as well as Spectors in general. The Sandberg it is going up against is this one - http://www.thomann.de/gb/sandberg_california_jm5_mn_bb.htm I already know what to expect from this bass and know it is gorgeous Oh what should I do?! If anyone has alternatives my budget is about a grand........
