1. Amp and tuner arrived today! YEAH!
2. I might have a go at knocking something up for here... not really creative when it comes to drums though :/
3.
Come on now chaps, give the man a break. That is the cheapest 12 string bass I have seen for sale in a long time.
4.
I remember when they had those - they really are lovely and I kinda wish I'd bought one at the time... but surely that's actually unique, rather than being 1 of 5 or so?
Hard to figure out... When I bought it the chap said it was the only one but later he said that there were others. Would be nice to own something unique though! The production models are in Cranes now and they're in the driftwood finish, also £200 cheaper
how much was it??
£800 - being a student it was a logistical nightmare but worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.
5. Having to phone is pretty lazy design since gak.co.uk is supposed to be a separate entity from the actual brick and mortar store... I know its hard for them to keep 100% track of all this stuff between selling it in the store and via the website but even so for a shop that successful surely their tills can track stock levels?
6. Hey guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice on playing chords on my six string bass. I have it tuned low B to high C. I'm having a lot of trouble actually finding any resources on the web that make sense to me- I guess what I'm after is like those things you get for guitars, the chord diagrams but it's hard to find for a 6-string bass as far as I can tell. Any tips or sites of interest would be great, otherwise should I just get my rhythm guitarist to teach me some chords and work out their positions on my fretboard? I want to be able to play some chordal stuff in the band. I hope that makes sense, Cheers, Pete
7. These cabs are absolutely gorgeous! I wish I had the know-how to build something like that for myself... Maybe I'll persuade my Dad to help me build one
8. It's a Tanglewood but it's really nice, apparently there's only 5 or so of these basses in this finish in the UK - got it from Cranes in Cardiff about a year ago-ish. It's great and makes the rest of my basses sound like sh*t
9. TNT -1 Didn't come to collect parcel for 5 days past when they first said and when they delivered it the amp was damaged...
10.
Hi Pete, I sourced a new sleeve for the head from Ashdown. I explained my project to Guy there and he sold me covering and corner pieces etc. The carpentry work I did myself but Im sure if your not confident any chippy worth his salt will do a grand job for you. The covering is a tricky job tho, very messy with spray glue. Im not happy with my DIY job so may get the whole cab re covered by a pro. Depends on costs though as it looks fine from a distance Hope this helps Col
Cheers, that's great
11. Playing bass for me is something I've done since I was 15 (Sudden Realisation: SIX YEARS! ) and it was a response to everyone loving guitar to death. I also have massive manly fingers so bass is perfect for me about 18 months ago I decided to pick it up again after an absence of about a year and put myself on musofinder for a laugh to see if I could find a band in the area. I found one a record three days later and have been there ever since and loving it! I moved onto 6-string basses about a year ago but still have yet to really get used to playing them (can't slap at all anymore) A lot like the one chap above, playing bass represents everything good that has ever happened to me so I never need an excuse to play.
12. My Bass Clef t-shirt, it's technically incorrect (the blobs wouldn't straddle the F :'( but it's still actively requested by fans and the band alike. I just can't escape it.
13. Mine is one of the older EB150 12" jobbies and it doesn't output anywhere near full power to the speaker for a second or two I assume that is to avoid the popping thing...
14. I know this is a bit of thread necromancy but could you explain how you went about separating the head and cab of your combo? I really want to just have a head and my extension cab instead of combo + cab for gigs but I'm not too hot on DIY so it'd be cool to see how you went about it. Did you source a head enclosure or make one, also where did you get your covering and stuff from? Cheers, Pete
15. For real, it's natural to be a little worried about how you come across as a band, especially one trying to get noticed, but a bad recording doesn't do you any favours. Unfortunately that's how it goes when money is tight and you only have the studio for max two days. Hopefully ours is good enough though.
16. This thread has made me feel much better about our demo that has a couple of errors we couldn't sort out without re-recording half a song.
17. Hmmmm...... I know it's not at a gig but I forgot how one of our songs went halfway through it at practise this week. Gig-wise...... never done anything ridiculous, but laughing at the lead guitarist laying on the hammy rockstar attitude onstage has made me miss notes and strings many times. The lead guitarist however, has managed the following: Switched his tuner on mid-song and spent the rest of the song desperately trying to work out why his amp is broken; stepped on his lead (which he refuses to feed through his strap) and unplugged his guitar - numerous times; started playing a song while tuned almost an octave out (whyyyyyyyy was he an octave out mid-set? I may never know the answer to that one) among other things. I enjoy gigs
18. I really really really am fed up of taking a combo and a cab around with me when I only want to use the cab, therefore the combo has lost its appeal to me and I'd like to find a head of equal or greater power (up to 250w @ 8ohms) to trade, with money one way or the other if necessary. The combo is the 12" speaker model and has a weeny bit of damage on the handle (although it's sturdy as anything- the damage was there when I bought it from a chap on bassworld a year or so ago) let me find the picture... There we are, I'll get a picture of the handle when I get a chance. I know I haven't got a lot of posts here but I used to frequent bassworld for a while before it dropped off the face of the planet. Cheers, Swordy Edit: Oooops, I found out at practise today that it's a bit unreliable on the one speaker output.... I'm going to try and get that fixed up before trying to flog/swap or otherwise get rid of the thing
19.
LOL...still don't like it though
I'm on the "Not a big fan of Motown" bandwagon too, although I can certainly appreciate it once in a while it's not exactly on my regular listening list
20. I'm from East Sussex originally but I live in Cardiff I'll try my best to get down there! Take it easy, Swordy
