1. I like that a lot! Wonder if they need a bassist?
2. I use Overwater Lightweight Nickels, and only Overwater Light Weight Nickels. Have used them exclusively for 3 years now having discovered them through playing an Overwater bass. For me they have the best balance of price & quality on the UK Market at the moment. Love 'em!
3. Looks like the stack version of the BG500 combo (which is amazing for it's cost!). I believe these are at Bassday today for people to try for the 1st time.
4. Dean arrived today to collect my TC BG500 combo. Excellent communication since agreeing the deal and even braved Nottinghams sh*te road network to come and collect. Nice bloke. Exactly what you want from a basschatter... Cheers! Shep
5. Just stumbled across this! On my GAS list….
6. Can't access it via iPhone Safari, but via my Mac it's fine
7. I get a double-bass-esque tone from my fretless, but rolling to the neck pickup only, boosting the mids a tiny bit and rolling off the bass about 10%, then I pluck the strings around the 12th fret and play only between the 1st and 7th frets (on y 6 string I can get away with not needing to go far down the neck). Te tone is closer to a double bass than my friends Dean Pace is. Its still not a true upright sound, but it does sound more like an upright than a traditional electric fretless.
8. Gorgeous. Unusual to see one with Silver hardware is it not? Does this have the tight 16.5-17mm strif spacing like the current ones, or is it wider? Shep
9. Fair point… On a more Marseer related point, Robbie just has a small fret dressing to do and then the final set up and oiling can begin. This truly is the home straight now! WooHoo!
10. I can understand that! I live my fretless too. I guess I want clear separation between my fretted & fretless basses. I treat them as separate instruments and like the fact the fretted 'doesn't' feel like the fretless. Although I can totally understand the reverse of that and why you love mandolin frets!
11. Mediums. Couldn't give you the exact gauge. I find the concept of Mandolin frets like on your W&T just... Well... Odd. Lol. Jumbo's are also a little over the top for me unless it's on a Jazz.
12. Cheers Mark. A beast it is. That freeboard is about 5mm wider than the Roscoe at the 24th! Going to have to give your 3 octave board another go soon. Drop me a message if your free one night next week!
13. This is exactly what my Roscoe Century Standard Fretless has. The trim pot is indeed gain. Basically it adds a little juice I find the combo fantastic for the fretless tone with loads of versatility in the tone. The push/pull on the mid (400 or 800hz cut/boost) is very useful. I havn't tried it in a fretted bass, but Barts are often refered to as 'dark' in terms of tone and I'd say this is true. Lovely deep, warm tone, but not as much top end sparkle as something like an EBS pre. I'm very happy with the combination and won't be changing it in te fretless.
14.
Nice looking bass man! Is this a custom ETS bridge?
It is indeed. Robbie has them made to order for his basses
15. I can see one BIG benefit to Basschat users specifically though… With Bernie building more basses in a shorter space of time it means EBS_freak will be putting more pictures in the GB Porn Thread!!!
16. Had a good chat with Bernie about this today, and as EBS_freak has already stated it seems the 'split' is on positive terms, with EBS wanting to push UK presence, hence moving to a distributor with reps on the road and a large catalogue of customers already taking other products from them. From a business sales perspective the move makes sense for EBS…. If it works out that way is something we will have to wait and see. From Bernie's perspective it means he can concentrate on what his business actually does, at a time when EBS products were taking up more time than GB Basses was. I get the impression he is slightly relieved to see the move from GB shores and it means he can get back on track with all the builds he has on the books at the moment. You will all be happy to hear that he seconds the thoughts about a lightweight head and thinks that without one in the range the road for the new distributor will be a rocky one… something I think we all knew. It does sadden me a little though, as Bernie was happy to resolve EBS based issues (I had a few in the early days) with his own resources. being a fully fledged distributor, I know the new supplier won't do that, and will instead enforce EBS's manufacturers warranty, meaning those of us that (god forbid) develop any issues with EBS gear will have to have our items shipped back to Europe to be looked at by EBS technicians rather than getting them sorted here in the UK… Fingers crossed no more issues!!!
17. Frets being levelled off in one of Robbies crazy contraptions! Shep
18.
Plans to find a lift has fallen short! Anyone passing through Nottingham want half thier petrol money covering?
Anyone?
19. Give Mark @ Hot Rox a shout - http://www.hotroxuk.com/ He deal with Chunk. If he doesn't have one in stock he'll get one. The pedal is great. One of the best synth/fuzz pedals out there. Very versatile. Just be prepared to sit with it and programme to get the exact sounds your after!
20.
Satin...
... Is exactly the word I was struggling to find last night! I was however making the bit up about lacquering... We have decided with satin oil finish and wax!
21.
What sort of finish is going on this? Oiled? Poly?
Couple of layers of oil to bring out the wood, then off for lacquer. Not high gloss though, just enough to make it pretty. Robbie will prob fill us in on the exact details. Oil is Arm R Seal is the oil if I'm not mistaken.
22. Another couple pics from today's initial setting up of the bass... I'm well informed that initial set up allows a good medium-low action before any tweaking so things are looking damn good!
23.
HURRY UP WITH IT! haha. I keep checking back to this build diary every day because I want to see the finished article I've gotta say this is one of the most stunning basses I have ever seen. How much is it costing you in all?
I know mate... Can't wait. Robbies clearly excelled himself on this one, with so many people checking the thread so often. Also had lots of people send me messages about the bass, it really seems to be rustling some feathers! I'm sure Robbie appreciates all the comments and feedback as well. The more the merrier... Also PM'd you bud.
24.
Thanks very much! As soon as we sort our tour our I'll post it on here. If only we could sort out some kind of basschat festival....
Now THAT is a bloody good plan!
25. If you want top end bite then the EBS inboard is the way! I love it.
