1. I have Barts in my Roscoe fretless. They suit the fretless tone perfectly. Very dark and warm, with huge response in the mid's. There is not of 'sparkle' on the top, but then I rarely need it on the fretless. I've never used a fretless with such great tone and so I have to give some serious respect to the Bart's. I have not heard a fretted bass with Bart's, or at least not tried it myself, but I have heard the word 'Dark' used to describe the tone much like I did above. I would consider the EBS pre'Bright', so Bart's being 'Dark' would be better described and smooth, round and warm. Shep
2.
I really like this!!! Nice work!
Agreed. Fantastic.
3. I can vouch for this being the real deal and the tripes are definitely NOT painted on. Back in my guitar shop working days the Fender rep bought one of these in to try and tempt us with. I am not a fan personally, but we took one and sold it in a week. It was a limited edition at the time. I beleive they do a guitar (6 string) in the new catalogue with a similar concept (but somewhat more expensive) which I beleive is also limited edition. EDIT - This is the guitar I was thinking off, as such I take back the comment about them being similar! lol - http://www.fender.com/news/index.php?display_article=186
4.
I play with Sad Lovers & Giants. Should be enough for you guys!!!
Show off :-)
5. Lol. Cool. Let me know what you think. I know very few people that use them as you don't see them anywhere... Only way to try them is to take a punt like I did. I would be nice to know my thoughts on them are mirrored by others. If they get popular though I'd better stock up before the price rockets Yeah... Back to the Marseer! Hopefully not too long now. Checking the set up, finalising the neck profile, which seems like it's 99% already, sprayshop, electrics, final set up... Then mine!!!!!!
6.
Thanks for that dude! Yeah, the pricing is very keen. How about feel, are they softer than usual or are they tight? As far as I recall, most of the DR strings are slightly easier going, used to use Hi-Beams a long time ago when I "played" 6 string fretless Eude
I find them pretty soft under finger but the sound is by no means soft. I originally went from mediums to light to try and reduce friction as I have sensitive little fingers Through my search the Overwaters were the smoothest feeling of all of them. There is great string tension, but the way they are wound just works so well, almost like they are coated... But they aren't. OW strings are one of those things in the bass world that I don't understand as to why everyone doesn't use them. Cost & performance to me nothing comes close.
7. Tonally I find the Overwaters very similar to DR Black Beauties (which would look awesome on the Marseer) which a good friend of mine swears by. I have never tried the Low Riders so would not wantto comment. I find them quite bright and good in the upper mids. I tried so many brands I lost track until 2 years ago when I took a punt on a set of Overwaters and have never used anything since. Plus the price in a 6 string set is sooooooo reasonable!
8. Big update from Robbie… Another shot of the headstock for good measure. Bass gets it's first stringing up and the nut gets cut to accommodate my choice of stings (Overwater Light Weight Nickels) The cut-away gets done to make space for my little hobbit-like gut.
9.
Are you on a mission to own a bass by every British luthier?
I wasn't…. until you suggested such a thing… Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
10. So as not to risk loosing out on buying something I 'really' want, until what I have my eye on is sold I will add the dreaded letters 'O.N.O' after my £450 price… I will take offers as long as certain things are still available.
11.
Cosette as in Euphrasie Fauchelevent from Les Misérables. Yes, my wife's much better read than me. (She was using the racy curves to force a lady's name on the bass. I was going more for Gary or Steve.)
Or Bernard
12.
Yes. No home should be without one. Incidentally, Mrs Endian has taken it upon herself to name this bass Cosette. Each to their own. She made comment about the "racy curves".
Maybe. Maybe. Cosette? Not Corset being your talking racy and curves….?
13. Gorgeous bass, great pictures. Do I need to add an ACG to my growing collection….? Hmmmmm….
14. Bought an OC-2 from Gareth. Top bloke to deal with, friendly communication and no issues at all. Top stuff. Cheers bud!
15. Hey dude, welcome to the forum. Shep
16. Bump for shiny TC Electronics goodness! A few things im interested in buying at the mo so would love someone to grab this beauty so I don't miss out. So, let's make this an uber bargain - £450 collected. Also updated trade options in opening post.
17.
I guess it wouldn't be too difficult given his huge pedalboard. It did look like the ashdown rack was his when I saw them at rock city, but I suppose that was naive of me - who would fly an ashdown all the way from australia!? Seriously his tone was good enough to give me a prostate massage. Were you at rock city then? I'm going to see them again in Manchester, I think it's in December. EDIT: They were touring with a full pro tools rig, racked for their live sound - perhaps the bass is going through that too.
Yeah I was at city, and a few months before at Rescue Rooms with Skindred & Dead By April. Would love to see them at Manchester but we are without a car and can't afford to add train and hotel to the gig price I would think he was going into the Pro Tools rig. Would make sense to keep the band as 'CD-like' as possible.
18.
Ahhh, OK. Well his sound was great until Karnivool started playing. I'm pretty sure he gigs with Ashdowns but perhaps he uses Ampeg in the studio.
True. When I saw them last he was using an EBS Fafner, but it belongs to the support band. I spoke with him after the show and in his words he said that he prefers to gig with Ashdown or Ampeg, but is happy with any amp at all as he can get that tone put of anything given half hour with his EQ set up!
19.
There are 4 body shapes so not just that one. 6 strings I am not sure about I will see if there is any interest. That 5 is a 35" scale.
Indeed. I thought it a good idea to read the page properly! I'd be very interested on a 35" 6 string unlined fretless, 18-19mm spacing. Harlot or Recurve shape. Should one appear on your list to be built in the near future please let me know... And consider it sold
20. S.M.V - It's the first time I've heard it and you know what... It's damn good!
21.
But can you trust yourself to use it properly?
Of course! I'm great! ;-)
22. Hmmmm... Not so sure about that body shape... Although the price is pretty fantastic! No 6'ers on offer though I'm strictly a 35" guy now to be honest as well...
