Cheers for that - no, I don't think that's the body - the contouring where horns meet neck pocket is different. It turns out this was found on on the Alembic forum - there's another pic, showing the bass in use, looks to be a couple of decades or so ago: http://alembic.com/club/messages/393/67321.jpg The amount of old H/H gear visible on that stage does sort of make me assume the pic was taken over here. J.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahaahahahhahhahah...is that a dwarf singing? funny on an epic scale.
D'you mean the Ibby or your Hondo? The Ibby pups are interesting - they look like Gibson Mudbuckers (it's the same set as the EB-0 copy oif the same era) but in fact they're single coils. I can't speak for the big square neck 'un, but I've got the same sort as the bridge one fitted in my Frankenbugger Parts-Box Special: And it sounds great - I'd say a lot more like a real Rick pup than the "accurate" Hi-gain copy on my Kasuga. Admittedly the neck pup on the Frank is a real Rickenbacker Hi-gain, so that probably sweetens it a bit, but the chrome bridge pup is very bright, full & loud - it measures about 11k so like a lot of old MIJ units, it ain't subtle. Rick copies have been selling well lately - probably due to RIC's own price hikes, and £500 is pretty good for an Ibby - because of the brand name these are the most sought-after & collectable Rick copies. This one does have a neck/body split he's stopped mentioning in his ads, without seeing it, there's no real way of knowing if it's an issue or not - but this sort of thing can be a symptom of neck/body join warping, which can result in an unalterably high action. J.
the hondo.
That's the one that was up at a grand a few times, before continuing to not sell at £500. I think this is the fifth re-list, must be costing him a fortune in fees. All the time he's too lazy to post it & too greedy to start it low it probably won't sell. J.
any info on how these sound bassassasin? anyone got one? got any info/advice?
Nice buy at that kind of money! You're certainly not going to lose out if you don't get along with it. Personally I wouldn't bother with the expense of a rewind as there's no guarantee it would improve things substantially and you'd never recoup the expense.
andy from wizard can do them for 35 quid each.
