  1. I reckon so, 4 shared winners and only 1 point less to the other 2 is very tight , but I know my place 😂
  2. The ink is hardly dry from the first post Douglas 😂
  3. up and running, dive in !
  4. Well June was a hotly contested challenge, to the extent that it would be quicker to list those that didn't win it Nevertheless congratulations are due to @Dad3353 @Leonard Smalls @Nail Soup and @skankdelvar for their most excellent compositions. As it’s his first win, the honour of picture choosing has fallen to Nail Soup , who has offered the following ..... "Its a small ornament I saw on holiday in the hotel lobby" Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded this month. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes. please no bagpipes, the summer solstice truce has just gone over . panpipes only if you have too. ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you. A line or two offering an insight to your inspiration/track choice will be good as well , it works nicely on the voting thread. The Deadline for entries is Midnight on Sunday 24th July good luck everyone
  5. I’m happy with that , well done everyone , I loved the folky approach to a few , I might follow @Leonard Smalls lead and find most pictures inspire me to a folk rock 😉
  6. .... and I’m preparing a ‘lurksalittle lifestyle’ tiebreaker for the photo choice 😁
  7. I hadn’t seen that 😂 I’ll change it in the morning .
  8. Ive PM’d SurlyJoe and this is not an entry to the challenge
  9. Ok All We are in have a good one
  10. Here we go for the June vote , all compositions were based on the following picture chosen by last months winner .. Skankdelvar He noted ... "This month's pic is Forge Valley, Scarborough by John Atkinson Grimshaw (1836 - 1893). No great significance, it's just a picture I like." 6 entries in total , so I think we shall go to 2 votes this time , If we still get a tie I will use a 'lurksalittle lifestyle' tie break question The entries are as follows 1 @Dad3353 The yellowing sky gave me the impression ofa storm brewing. A bucolic scene, but could be deceptive. Some heavy raindrops, a brief shower..? Maybe it'll turn out fine after all... 2 @Leonard Smalls Being laid up with a broken leg has some advantages (arguably!) - I had time to produce a fine example (arguably again!) of "Doh" music (*). I suggest either headphone, or a big hifi to listen as it's dribbling with big 'ol stereo stuff. 3 @Nail Soup The picture made me think of tranquility and solitude. So I decided to go for a kind of 'solo' thing - a single performance into a single mic, with minimal number of takes. So just a guitar tuned to open D and vocal. 4 Lurksalot Well I thought this shouted 'Folk' so I tried it, and it actually turned out a little bit folky 5 @upside downer The image is of a bucolic scene so I decided to take a relaxing ramble through the musical countryside with not a care in the world. 6 @skankdelvar Something a bit more basic than last month's kitchen sink production number. An admiring nod to Richard Gaughan and Peter Maxwell Davies. So there we have it, a slightly reduced quantity maybe , but certainly not reduced quality 2 votes then please Voting to close at midnight on 30th June good luck
  11. You may well be correct in that, however , the venue staff concurred that the sound was abysmal , they know how the room should have sounded , they have a few gigs there , the support act sound was fine and Crystal clear
  12. Elvis Costello , June 10th Liverpool Philharmonic , utter car crash of a sound set up , I’ve posted elsewhere. I don’t normally go to the arenas as the sound has been disappointing on the occasions I have. Competence aside , those places must be a mare to get the sound right , but the Philharmonic should be a breeze!
  13. My entry bass on the picture chosen by last months winner Skankdelvar Well I thought this shouted 'Folk' so I tried it, and it actually turned out a little bit folky the lead guitar bit was supposed to sound like a mandolin , and I used a midi piano to make the fiddle sounds , I'm sure they could be more accurate...if I spent a year trying to polish it! A fair bit of autotune on the vocal, but my sister reckons my nasal tones work best in the folk genre , and when she says best , she means least worse! IIRC The hook of the lyric comes from a 2 Ronnies sketch , its a line that me and my brother throw at each other quite regularly
  14. Not so much with the bass playing , but certainly does with the singing . when I’m recording in the winter months , it’s cold, dark and the neighbours have their windows closed, they can’t hear my dulcet tones . im the summer I sometimes have some explaining to do 🤦‍♂️
  15. I don’t think he actually had a go at Rod Stewart , more the song choices made.
  16. I probably shouldn’t dig , but there was no resolution , the sound was abysmal from the first note to the last , there was no noticeable change to any EQ or reverb throughout the night , the vocal was lost, the drums were spilling into everything and the bass an inaudible mush . Pump it up , an iconic bass line if ever there was one, was just about perceivable. honestly , if you know the crew and thus the problems , could you share them with us?
  17. That being the case , surely the crew would have made the band, and Costello in particular, aware of the problem ? he had no idea why the audience were calling at him , he had no grasp of what was going on for about 30 minutes, and rather than ask around the crew , he told the audience to “shut the f**k up” The story from the venue management was that he turned down the use of the house Rig , at the end of the day things do go wrong every now and again , but why is that MY risk in a professional show? if the artist can’t put on a show to a decent standard , money should be refunded or a new show scheduled. you can’t just shrug your shoulders and walk off with the money.
  18. Well the desk was at the side of the stage , they had no idea what the sound was like out front. Ian Prowse, the support, was spot on crystal clear and had the crowd well up for the gig. The tour declined the option of the house rig. ”serious technical issue” ... not buying that at all , where are you getting that gem from ?
  19. This happened
  20. The whole audience , honestly , it would have been passable, just, without the rhythm section ,it was just loud mush
  21. Elvis Costello and the imposters , well , the biggest imposter was the sound ‘engineer’ utter , utter garbage at the Philharmonic in Liverpool , I don’t do stadium/arena/festival stuff I’ve found the sound crap , but FFS .... it’s the Philharmonic Hall , sound is what they do truly awful , the house management were all embarrassed and couldn’t apologise enough , they should be refunding. DIRE
  22. it’s not your bouncing bass leg is it ? Hope it gets better soon bud 👍
  23. What have you gone and done dude 😳
  24. I’ve written some lyrics and I know what genre I want it to be ... but once I start actually playing some instruments it will probably change ! it won’t be dub or Doh... it’s a lottery 😁
  25. That’s what I was suggesting , the speed is slower and thus lacks the energy
