I yearned for a Bongo 6 when I first saw them but was going through a "do I want a 5 or 6 string" and decided to buy a Bongo Stealth 5. It lasted just a couple of days due to not being able to obtain a sound that I thought it might be able to produce. I sold it immediately. About a year later I had real GAS for a Bongo 6 again and therefore when the opportunity arose, bought one thinking that my past experience with the 5 was just a one off. Sadly, I was mistaken. I have to be honest, it played so much better than the 5 and felt far more comfortable but I still had the problem of getting the sound I was looking for. It just sounded flat and lifeless which shocked me as I always expected MM basses to sound huge. This was an HH version and everything I tried failed. I tried it through friends amps, different studio set ups and still couldn't get what I was aiming for. I still can't explain it and after 2 months of solidly attempting to find "the" sound, still nothing. Reluctantly, as I still loved loved the feel and the looks, I sold it. Everytime I see one I want it, but I know that I wouldn't buy one again. I'm not saying that everyone will have this problem but for my band / sound, it just didn't fulfil it's potential. A real pity but still a gorgeous bass to play.

Man, I can't believe it is back here as I know how much you wanted this, so sorry mate but if it has to go, to has to go. I was talking to a mate about this bass a couple of weeks ago because it is the bass I used for our High Voltage performance last year and he wanted to know what had happened to it. Anyway for anyone reading this, Phil is a top bloke and a real pleasure to deal with plus the bass is bloody gorgeous. Good luck with the sale matey

** SOLD** Brand New EBS Multidrive Pedal **SOLD**

Well, where do I start....... I bought this last week because we have slimmed down to a 5 piece band and heading back out to tour so I thought, that an overdrive pedal would be needed for certain sections of certain songs to add a little bit of extra balls when our guitarist is soloing to make up for the other guitar not being there. Wrong! I have found out that less is definitely more in this band and that the bass actually breathes a lot more and fills out the sound regardless. Therefore, I am now selling a week old EBS Multidrive pedal bought from Bass Direct that has been out of the box once and then put back in. I realise this is now actually second hand but, in reality it is in brand new out of the shop condition. I am looking for £100.00 for this and I will pay the postage. How does that sound? I will get pictures up tomorrow evening if that is OK? Would also PX for a good condition Sansamp BDDI or an MXR M80+. Thanks for reading and take care. Cheers, Matt
I bought Matt's Sansamp Deluxe Bass Driver. The deal was done in a matter of minutes yesterday and the beast arrived this morning!!! He was even willing to post the until before payment was confirmed (payment did arrive in time, but he was very trusting!!) Great guy, pedal in mint condition and dead easy deal, my only complaint is that it took ages to get into the layer upon layer of packaging I have no hesitation in recommending Matt to deal with, he is a top chap indeed!!!
Ha ha ha ha, nice one mate

Hi BC gang, hope all is well with you? I have decided to sell my SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe. It has only been used in my studio as a pre-amp but it's a lot of pedal just to be sat around doing nothing half the time plus, I am now after an EBS MultiDrive Black Label pedal for my live set-up so this is being sold to fund that purchase. It is fully boxed and in immaculate condition. I bought it from The Bass Gallery in London for £225.00. I am looking for £150.00 including delivery. I will post photos later this morning / early this afternoon but if you have any questions in the mean time. drop me a line. Here are the tech specs for the SansAmp - The Tech21 SANSAMP BASS DRIVER DELUXE Bass Guitar Preamp & DI, 6 programmable locations, effect loop, 2 inputs. Rich Fat SansAmp tones with clever routing for the live bass player. The Tech21 SANSAMP BASS DRIVER DELUXE is perfect for bassists who like to switch it up on stage. The SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe is the ultimate live tool for the bass-hopping, preset-stomping player. The Deluxe is all about fast delivery of monster Tech 21 bass tones in the fray of a live performance. Dual inputs enable two instruments to be on-line and ready to go with a pop-free selector. You can program three custom tones for each input, or use all six for a single instrument. You can also program the FX loop to engage your favourite effect with a particular setting and the Deluxe will bring it every time that preset is selected. The fat, funky tones of the SansAmp Bass Driver series are legendary. With an all-analog signal path, two inputs, six presets, a programmable effect loop, and parallel/tuner out, the stage-optimized Deluxe is all that with cheese and pickles.
Thanks Matt Appreciate the replies Will keep a look out for the album and tour dates. If you're in the Carlisle area you should look up Chris May at Overwater and trial a 6 string fretless. He's a really genuine nice guy and knows his stuff. If you're in my area near Glasgow give me a shout and i would be happy to let you try mine as long as you don't show me up. Cheers and all best Dave
Hi Dave, no worries mate you are welcome. I have been to the Overwater shop once but that was back in 2003 when a friend was thinking of buying a bass off Chris. I was only in there for 5 minutes as I had to move the car while he looked around. I was gutted. Anyway, when I am that way again, I will pop in. Also, we've been to Glasgow twice now. It was last April and November so we will be back again for sure. I'll let you know and it would be great to meet up. As far as me showing you up, I think it will be the other was round mate Look forward to speaking soon and take care. Cheers, Matt -
Hi Matt, I think you've sold me on the Dingwalls. I looked at them before buying my Progress but wasn't sure about the fanned frets. At that stage i didn't know i was going for a fretless either. Just something special to celebrate my big 50. Its a 35" scale. From what you say they aren't an issue when it comes to playing and more "natural". Its better hearing this from a true working musician rather than the advertising waffle and especially someone who has used some of my fav basses ie Warwick, Yamaha. Guess when its time to look again I'll give it more thought. Guess if Leland Sklaar is selling them too they can't be bad and he's virtually converted same as yourself. With regards The Reasoning - the song Awakening rekindled (awakened) me to the "modern" Prog Rock scene. I was a Genesis, Floyd, Saga, Eloy, Rush type fan until that song and have now gathered quite a collection of the "modern" bands incl Dark Angel and look forward to hearing the next from Reasoning. Reasoning, Mystery & Pallas (new album) are my top 3 Prog bands at moment so thanks for that. I've more or less given up playing in serious bands these days. Was always more of a hobby rather than a profession to me. I'm one of those weird guys who enjoyed their day job as an engineer. I still play on occasion with friends and attend the odd jam session where there's no real pressure. Occasional studio work to help some old friends and quite content to stay at that level. It's allowed me to improve on my technique and learn new styles over past few yrs. That is where I get most enjoyment - learning ! Hence the 6 string fretless - that was a steep learning curve but is paying dividends now. I guess I got a bit tired of the usual band politics over the years. Have recently started taking an interest in playing with bands again and will see how it turns out. Really good hearing about the Dingwalls and keep us all posted on progress with them and the new album. All the very best and thanks for the reply. Nice touch mate. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, Glad to be of assistance with regards Dingwall basses I have only ever played one Overwater bass and that was a 6 string but it had the 36" scale and it felt HUGE! There was a single cut on here recently that looks gorgeous and every time I see an Overwater it is always one of those "WOW" things. They are stunning. I want to get a 6 string fretless as well but it's not a necessity just a wish list thing, so one day I will treat myself Thanks again for the really nice words mate, I feel very humbled that you think our music is something that makes you want to listen and for that I will always be very appreciative. As far as the new album, it is really coming along nicely and I am so excited about getting back in the studio and getting these songs recorded. I'll keep you posted but it should be out around October / November. I hope we get the opportunity to play for you as well and then maybe, we can sit down with a beer and talk bass a little more, which would be ace. Take care, thanks again and stay in touch. Have fun. Cheers, Matt -
Cheers Matt Much appreciate the offer. Late home tonight so only just picking up the thread again. Looks like you've got plenty of offers for the case. If its still available let me know - I'm still interested. Probably easier if someone more local buys it. Apart from that why have you deserted the Warwick fold. ? Are the Dingwalls that good Always thought the Warwick played a major part in your sound. Will obviously check out the Dingwalls on next album. Good luck with the sale Thanks again Dave
Nice one Dave. Warwick was my main stay for a long time, but I never really found what I was looking for with them. Great basses (I tried all of them), great sound but they never felt right for me. I moved to Yamaha TRB6 basses which I used on the last album and toured extensively with but again, and I can't put my finger in it, but I was still looking for something else. I suppose that is the curse of us players eh? Anyway, I really started to get fed up with the active EQ on some of the basses I had and after plugging my trusty old P-Bass in one day, I realised I needed to go back to passive instruments and ones that had none fussy controls and just sounded great right from the off. After months of searching I saw, what is now my main Dingwall, at Bass Direct and when I got back from our Norwegian dates, I headed up there to try the AB1 and man, I just fell in love. Everything about it was spot on. It felt right, it sounded incredible, it was passive with the most powerful and precise pick ups I have heard, it looks incredible and weighs nothing. The compound neck is so stunning and the fan frets felt so natural under the fingers. Chordal work was, IMHO, so much easier and more natural and it keeps coming back to that word - natural. I was hooked. I went out on tour 2 months later and that was it - POW! No turning back. I've just taken delivery of an ABZ with a maple neck and an Ash body instead of the Alder on the AB1, and again, wow. I really, really do swear by these basses and can't wait to record the new album. I've obviously been using them for the writing of the new album and I have to say that this is what I have been looking for. It is going to take something extremely special to turn me away from my Dingwalls Sorry for waffling on, but I never thought I would find anything like these. Don't tell anyone Catch you soon mate and stay in touch. Take care. Cheers, Matt P.S. That Progress of yours looks rather special. Is it a 35" or 36"? What are you doing musically? Look forward to hearing some of your music mate. -
