1. Nick, I might still be interested in the 212. The 310 sounds better - warmer and clearer, than my old Peavey 15" BW, the trace 2 x 10" & 1 x 15" cabs I tried, or an old Selmar cab I fitted with a 15" Eminence Kappa. How does the sound of your 212 compare to the 310 ? Rich
  2. Hi, has anyone tabbed the bass for Hello Suzie by Amen Corner ( originally by Roy Wood ) ??
  3.
Looking for a trade only I'm afraid as I can't afford to be without a cab once this one goes.
Peavey 300 15 BW combo ??? Much better than the Epis ( lots of knobs, all in one rather than having to carry two things, and you can get some weight training when you carry it ) A bargain. Just what you need.
  4.
Or you could trade & Nick could get his old 3x10 back
No, I'm keeping the 310 - I love the sound. But I was wondering about adding to it, but only with an Epi. Ben White's selling a 310. Not sure if I want to add another 310, or if I should go for a 212 ?
  5.
I was playing at PJ Malloys in Dunfermline last night. When I got there, I was under the impression that the bass amp they had there was an SVT III but after setting up I had a look at it and discovered that it was an SVT II Pro. I've always wanted to try a valve amp so moved the amp over to where my own gear was and connected it to my cabinet. I waited in anticipation before I flicked the standby switch and was immediately disappointed. I couldn't explain what was wrong initially but my guitarist said that, although it sounded a bit warmer, it lacked what my own amp and sound have. I'm glad I got the chance to try it as I had been eyeing up a Marshall VBA400 for ages. They probably don't sound the same but I think that it gave me a good indication of what to expect. The thing is that I tend to go for an edgy, grindy, aggressive sound and thought that tubes would sound better than my current Genz Shuttle in that respect but its definitely solid state 1, valves 0. I'm glad I got the chance to try the amp out as valve amps are few and far between but I think that as far as my own sound requirements go, solid state is definitely the best option. Not to mention that the Ampeg weighed as much as my bass, cabinet and amp put together.
If your shuttle's a 6, and you find something you prefer and want to sell it, please let me know.

    Power Boost

The Epi cab is a UL 310, with 3 speakers, hence the odd 5.3 ohms. I was considering getting another identical cabinet - does this halve the impedance, or is it more complicated than this ? If half, this would present 2.65 ohms, which is too low for the amp.
  7. I have an old Crate amp, producing around 350 w into my Epi 5.3 ohm cab. The cab can take 700 w. I am happy with the sound I get from these. Can I use a power amp with the Crate to provide more power, maybe by bi-amping ?
  8.
bought secondhand in 2002. 200 w output with its 15" B W speaker, or 300 w if used with 4 ohm extension cab. Sounds good, and has lots of controls, ie, 8 band equaliser, pre / post gain, patch, etc, and can be bi-amped. Looks tatty. Fitted with side handles 'cos it's heavy. Need to sell to pay for the recently purchased Crate head and Epifani cabinet. Realised the previous price was a bit low, so hoping for £160. Still a good price I think, from what was said previously. Can deliver locally, between Basingstoke and London.
Price reduced

    Oi Oii !!!

Two of you from Bolton ( see the post after yours ). We seem to be letting anyone in.
  10. 'Living in Burley, you need a laugh. Seriously though.
  11.
For what purpose are you making these recordings? Is it a sketch pad, or are you looking to take some of those sketches into the realm of real multitracking - cos the later isnt cheap if you want really good results IME.
Only so that we can listen and improve. Not making demo's or anything.
  12. What you need is a Peavey 300 BW combo, plus cash, delivered / collected.
  13.
Very good laptop + high spec audio interface + good sequencer software. Are you *sure* you need 4 simultaenous inputs? Having multiple tracks is great if you're editing, but unless you do that then for a practice session it seems like you're just adding complexity. You could record it all as one track if you plugged everything in to a little mixer and balanced the levels there. Just means you couldn't make changes later. Even take the mixer's output to something basic like a minidisc recorder etc.
No, I'm not sure I need 4 inputs, and I do want to keep it simple. There are lots of suggestions for recording everything together, like the Zoom H4 which sounds good, and easy. But I would like to, say, play the original song we're doing and record my bass line, then play this bass line and record a vocal track, on my own. Then when the boys come round, play this and and the guitars, etc, and record on separate tracks so we can re-do some. Different to my original query, now I almost have an idea of what I want to do. Therefore, is an 8 track, ie, Boss BR 600 suitable ?
  14. Blimey, I thought a string was a string, as in - how long is a piece of said item. I honestly didn't realise there was so much difference in the various types and makes.
  15. I want to start recording our practice sessions. Recorders seem to go from £100 up to £1000 +, and 8 tracks only record 2 tracks at a time. Looking for something to record 1 or 2, or 4 or more tracks at a time, and play them back and record more. Any ideas ?

    Where am i ?
Thank you for clarifying. Not sure where I'd be able to find Kopparberg at this time of night and all I've got in is red wine and some cheeky honey beers... And as for starting playing, bass shopping starts properly this weekend. G
So what did you get ?
  18. I want it !! I have a Peavey 300 BW Combo to trade. Tatty, but working and sounds good. Rich
  19. Hi, is the Woolly Mammoth still for sale ?
  20. Well, like 'obbm' I started with a Framus Star Bass, and I still have it, detailed in my introductions thread. Started playing in '64, and have a picture from around then when we were 15 ish. I recently met up with the guitarist, and he has given me a cd made from the reel to reel tape we recorded at the BBC in 1966. Memories. The local cinema in Slough ran gigs as well, and we got a regular spot on Saturday nights, playing to a few thousand people, which you couldn't see 'cos it was pretty dark. Amen Corner played in the same cinema, and we were in the front row. Saw Georgie Fame at Pantiles, Geno Washington at the Ricky Tick, and others like Cream, Tyranasorus Rex, Led Zepellin, Curved Air.

    Where am i ?
Considering taking up bass again. Played a bit about, uh, well, quite a lot of years ago anyway. Kinda fancy having another crack at it, so... actually, I'll start my own thread and stop hijacking yours Oh, and go easy on the Kopparberg. That's some dangerous stuff.
You must start again - playing, not downing Kopparberg. I'm glad I restarted. Can't play like I used to yet, but getting there slowly.

    Where am i ?
Hi there fryer, nice to see you, to see you, nice. Lovely Framus there. Sounds like a great band, I was supposed to be doing a gig tonight but it got pulled, so I can say hello. Is your Dad still playing? Steve.
Hi Steve. Well he died some years ago, age 73, but he was still playing the double bass in his late 60's. He was a great entertainer. Maybe he's taken up the harp ? Rich
