  1. Whichever signature model he's plugging this week.
  2. I love playing bass, but in the context of being in a band. It works when you're "bouncing off" other people.
  3. Similar story really, started playing bass mid-teens (no grades, no other instruments other than recorder in Primary School), in & out of bands to my mid-20's, then life got in the way. Played a bit of guitar, but nothing serious. Stopped playing for a few years, then started doing a part time recording course at the local college, started playing guitar a bit more as well as bass for song writing, and that kind of took over. Played bass on the recordings, but nothing more. That project developed into a band, but then that band folded, and basically stopped playing for a while and kind of fell out of love with playing. Fast forward a few more years, looking for something to do, saw an ad for a bass player in a new originals band, answered the ad, met with the others and got on with them. A few line up changes and about 8 years later, we've recently released our first album. The beauty of doing the recording course, playing guitar & songwriting, I think I've picked up an appreciation of "serving the song".
  4. Completely agree with the above points, keep playing the songs as you think appropriate.
  5. House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
  6. Charging a tenner also means you don't have to carry a ton of change.
  7. Play it how you think it should be played.
  8. Another question would be how many effects do you need per song? Do you want amp/cab modelling or just effects? There are plenty of options out there these days, and they're all pretty decent, but it depends on what you need. If you're happy with your amp sounds, and just want effects, then the HX FX would be a good place to start, as it is just effects. If you're after amp/cab modelling as well, but only use 2-3 effects, then the POD Go is well worth looking at (use one myself, and think it's great). If you need multiple signal paths and a load of effects as well as amp/cab modelling, then HX Stomp / Stomp XL etc. would do the job. Don't know anything about the Boss GT1000/Core/GT1/etc. or the Zoom B3n/B6, or the Hotone pedals. There's a Helix LT in the Effects For Sale section for £550 IIRC, which would be well worth considering.
  9. I've been looking into it for our album, but it doesn't seem to have gone very far. I think if you're looking at doing CD's, you're best starting point would be how much it's going to cost to get the CD's reproduced in the first place, and how many you think you'd need. When I checked the other month, the duplication cost, inc. covers, was between £300-500 for 100 CD's, so if we assumed that it would be say £400 for 100 CD's, then the "unit" cost would be £4 per CD, and you'd need to sell all of them to get your money back. If you sold them at say £6 each, that's £2 "profit" for each CD, and you'd be able to give a small number away for "promo" purposes without affecting making your money back. If you factor any "profit" made from the CD's would go into the band coffers, you would want to try and make them as profitable as possible, but also price them so that they're "affordable" and more importantly, "saleable" to your crowd. Maybe, at the next few gigs you go to, check out the other bands merch tables, and see how much they're selling them for.
  10. Thought Thomann did a V Bass Gig Bag.
  11. Or is it Care in the Community? Definite community. Definite invaluable source of information. Definite source for temptation (For Sale section).
  12. Love to have a go on a double bass, but I don't live anywhere near Oxfordshire.
  13. That kind of puts me off them, though I would like to try one with Stainless rounds. Whether anyone would be brave enough to put SS rounds on something like an EB2 is another question.
  14. I'd say the first thing you'd need to consider is whether you're wanting to record just yourself or will be wanting to record multiple instruments simultaneously. If it's just a "solo" affair, then maybe some sort of DAW and an interface would be a good idea. The iPad should have GarageBand on it, you'll just need a compatible interface for recording. If you wanted to use the PC, again, an interface with a suitable DAW is the way to go. If you bought a brand new interface, it should come with a bundled DAW to get you started. Simple interfaces will have 1 or 2 inputs, and probably cost less than £100 for a pretty decent one. More inputs = more outlay. If you have a Multi-FX (Zoom/Line6/Boss/etc.), then you could simply use that as the interface, and record via its USB connection. A standalone multi-track recorder is a great idea too, there'll be loads of second hand ones kicking about, something like a Yamaha AW16G with an onboard HDD & CD-ROM.
  15. I think it was @jimmy23cricket that had the B3n, not me. Used to have a B3 a long time ago (well, it feels a long time ago!). Definitely preferred the Line6 devices over the Zoom, replaced the B3 with a PodXT Live, then the HD500x, now the POD Go. The only criticism of the POD Go is that it is limited, small number of "free" effects blocks, no parallel signal paths, no DI XLR, limited number of bass-specific effects, etc. None of these are deal breakers IMO, and I still think it's a great piece of kit for the bass player. I plug it into the "Effects Return" on my amp, so the signal is straight into the power amp section.
  16. A couple to add to the list: Gibson Victory BC Rich Eagle / Seagull / Bich through neck from the 70's Dingwall D-Roc Always fancied a semi-hollow, twin single pickup bass, similar to a Warwick Star or something Gison-esque (a la Hooky)
  17. Wow, had it for nearly 2 years already. Still favouring the Pod Go? Abso-bloody-lutely. Fabulous piece of kit, love it. I added the Celestion Pulse 10 IR's, and using the 4x10 model pack, can't recall which mic setup etc. but it sounds so much better than the pre-loaded Line6 cabs. Did some recording with it last year, really happy with the sounds that were captured.
