1. I used to seriously lust after these when I was at school... All Geezer Butler's fault. They look so much better with the scratchplate. GLWTS.
2.
Having a Fender MIA P I can say it compares very favourably and the p retro allows you to dial in mid cut thump or mid hump clank Through headphones they sound pretty much the same
Intriguing!
3. Mate, if you were further South I would have this in a heartbeat!
4. Bump - another price drop. If you are looking at this bass I suggest you buy it because it's wonderful.
5.
Not managed to get everything altogether in one place yet, life is a bit complicated at the moment and I was waiting for Roqsolid to send out the "Powerbag" I ordered so I could carry the cabs back from work on the train. They're compact and very light, but still not much fun on public transport or walking anything over a mile. Anyway, I got one home last night and had a quick blast this morning. The build quality is top notch, very solid indeed, especially the head, wonderfully finished and sturdy. Through headphones the amp sounds quite modern but can get quite dirty, when you dial the gain back its almost hifi, but taking it up to overdriving it sounds lovely, dirty and punchy without being too spiky if that makes sense? The gain circuit is designed to overdrive nicely rather than clip, would be cool if it was switchable, but I do appreciate the simple and uncluttered design of this little amp. Through the one cab, its not quite as "surprisingly huge for the size" as the Promethean running flat, but having said that its a very nice noise, just not quite as bassy. You can dial all that in however using the thankfully simple 3 band EQ. There's also a lot of volume on tap, seemingly more than the Promethean. If all goes well, I'll get the second cab home tonight and give the whole thing a go tomorrow morning. I reckon two of these cabs will be pretty powerful and the whole modular thing should give me everything I could need for a little while. I'll be back once I've had a plonk through the whole rig. Eude
Luvverly!
6. Also look out for Who's Next, Metallica, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
7. Probably an impossible question to answer, but how does it compare tonally to a Precision?
8. Updates?!?! I'm itching to hear how this rig performs...
9. I sold this to Mark at Classic and Cool and I miss it
10. To echo some earlier posts... Jim Lea Colin Hodgkinson Dee Murray
11.
Fanned frets took five minutes to get used to No biggie
This. I played one at the bass show last year, a fiver with a low F#, and it was astounding. Alas, the basic tone of the instrument left me cold - not a fault of the bass, just not to my taste. Sheldon Dingwall is a top fellow though, we had quite a natter.
12. I have played this bass and will cheerfully say it's the finest instrument I have ever experienced. Incredible tone and feel. Slightly out of my price range
13. My soul remains intact... For the time being.
14. If only you were closer!
15. I would happily give you my soul for this bass. PM if interested.
16.
Yes, although he says that the night that Never Say Die concert video was recorded was the only time he ever used that Rickenbacker, and he only did so that night because he had forgotten to bring his own bass , which was a custom black and white striped JayDee by that time ( 1978). .
I'm sure Geezer would be the first to admit his memory of that time is probably not as good as it could be... But, the Rickenbacker is all over Never Say Die (the album). It's unmistakable. Ooh, and I've just remembered another one - the red B.C. Rich Ironbird bass used at Live Aid!
17. Blimey, that's amazing! I got a card.
18. The first three Sabbath albums are the masterclass in Geezer-style. It helps that he's right up in the mix too. MoR is still the Precision, we're just not used to hearing P basses with flats being drop tuned to C#, so no wonder it sounds odd! From Vol 4 onwards his tone changes to something warmer and more indistinct - probably due to the ever more complex productions and multi-tracked guitar parts. That said, my favourite Sabbath album of all is Sabotage.
19. So... You were looking for a Westone Rail to be your first bass?
20. Looks like an early Wal to me... At least from the screen grab at the top.
