2.
I think it looks like a toy, and that’s a bit of a joke @ £500. I thought the ethos behind this was that kids of all backgrounds should be able to learn a musical instrument so he was going to introduce an affordable instrument that kids would love and play and be proud of and blah blah blah… I quote – “I WANTED STUDENTS TO HAVE AN INSTRUMENT THEY COULD FALL IN LOVE WITH, AND I WANTED THEM TO BE ABLE TO DO IT WITH THE LIMITED MEANS THAT MOST OF THEM HAVE FOR ACQUIRING ONE”. £500 seems like a lot to me for an “affordable” instrument for people of "limited means"… I don’t know if it’s because I’m feeling a bit pessimistic today, but this seems like bullshit to me.
I second that. !! No, its not pessimism, you're spot on....it IS bullshit.
 3. "Geez" !!. . I'm not as bad as I think I am then,...and I cant play.
 4.
Without trying to be rude, there is a search function on this forum, you've asked such a general question with no real information about what you like that there can be many answers. High tension, low tension, somewhere in the middle, dull flats, lively (well, as lively as flats can be), or perhaps ground/pressure wound are more your area? Honestly, do a search for "flatwound" strings, it'll keep you reading for ages. Also, the Misc board a couple down is where a lot more string questions get asked, of which you've already found and put an identical post there....quite odd. Bearing in mind this is a mostly European based forum so if you did it in order to get lots of responces... well most people are sleeping at this time of night, and unlike Talkbass and certain other bass forums, non of us really linger just in one section (well, barring some of the Offtopic people and the URB players), so the topics do get read by lots of people anyway.
Firstly: I don't know how to delete the post. otherwise I would have. Second: I am well aware of the time differences around the world ( I wasn't sitting here holding my breath, waiting for a reply) Third: I didn't know that flatwound strings come in High / Low Tension, somewhere in the bloody middle, dull / lively, ground or flamin pressure wound....hence my f$%@&*$ question....I asked for someone to give me the characteristics of flatwounds and a decent sort of brand...I am also well aware that it is a general sort of question, and if I was more experienced I would have worded it differently. and last...you have put in a fair effort to tell me where I went wrong etc, why didn't you put in the same effort to answer my question?? do you know anything about strings??
 5. I would like to try a set of flatwound strings, however when they cost in excess of $100 for a pack of 4, I don't want to make a mistake could some of you knowledgeable gents (bass players) suggest a decent brand, and add the characteristics please. I did say please,....and thanks...and as always, all comments appreciated
 6.
That forum is ridiculous. They’d sing the praises of a polished piece of sh*t with an Ernie Ball logo on it.
Excellent,....you would hardly expect Fender or Rickenbacker for example, to poop on their own products would ya??
 7.
I'm actually intrigued as to what other people define as wooly?
Yeah, me too.! Could somebody describe "wooly" ??
 8. Thanks very much to everybody who answered my question I think it will be Ashdown for me....thanks again
 9.
Hi Guys, I'm very happy with my current Rig...... Agular DB750 & GS112 & GS112NT However....... i'm thinking I could upgrade the Drivers in my cabs to a higher power handling / better quality 4ohm units and achieve full power from my DB750 which is happy to deliver nearly a 1000W at 2ohms I've read enough on here to know it's not all about watts. I know for more volume i'd be way better off adding more cabs..... infact I have a GS115 which I can pair with the 2x 112's for a monster rig. I guess my thinking is.... Get a GS410 to run with the GS115 for big gigs (If they happen again) and have the "supercharged" 112's for more compact gigs.... Am I being Daft ? Should I leave well alone ? The cabs appear to have a pretty low sensitivity..... As I have lots of power available from the BD750 I feel as though this might be good in the respect of the fact that I can turn up the wick and get the amp out of first gear... Am I thinking correctly here ? Or is the popular pairing of the DB750 with say a super efficient Bergantino cab more of the way forward ? I'm sure Aguilar spent a lot of time working out the best driver for the GS/DB112 - but there must have been an "economy factor" engineered in to achieve such a competitive price point...... would a more expensive driver that was well matched to the type of cabinet / internal vol etc yield an improvement or are there just physical limits to how much power and clean vol you can achieve from a small enclosure like the GS112 Is there a High power 12' Driver out there that's suitable to the box - if so what is it ? Lot's of questions I know..... but I know we have some great experts in this field on Basschat....... 10.
Ive heard of people doing this to bring strings back to life , what type of Alchohol is used to do this (i take it its not methylated spirits) and how do you do this?
Denatured Alcohol is what you use,....commonly known as Methylated Spirits, a mate does this and reckons its great. Soak them, and an old toothbrush, scouring pad or something similar, to give them a bit of a rub. I have seen the residue after he has done this on one occasion and you wouldn't believe the crap that a set of roundwounds accumulate.
 11.
Hello, im looking to get a small but giggable combo, ive an Ashdown 2/10 which is brilliant, but is a bit of a lump to fit in the car, and for smaller gigs, pubs etc, i don't really need the volume, anyone got any ideas, id be willing to spend up to 500£
Roland Cube 100 Watt. 12" Coaxial Driver 8 Amp models including super flat which reproduces the connected bass's sound perfectly. Dimensions: 407(W)x310(D)x469(H)mm Weight: 17kg / 37lbs 8ozs. Awesome little Amp....but have no idea what the cost is in UK pounds. In OZ its going for $1050.00 approx LOUD. sh*t I sound like a salesman, I'm not, just really happy I bought one....go try one, I'm sure you will be impressed. Heres a link.....http://en.euroguitar.com/amp/bass-combo-9/all/roland/
 12. Never found anything in an amp,...never looked, but I bought a large pair of JBL Stereo speakers many years ago, and after some clown kicked a cone on one of the drivers, I had to replace it, and on removing the old driver, I found four 1 ounce bags of "primo" bud.....excellent. !! How could the original owner forget that. ??
 13.
My flatmate has recently volunteered her services as a bass player to a friend of ours, despite the fact that she doesn't own a bass. As you can see from my sig, I own some fairly decent (IMO) gigging bass equipment, having been playing for the past 12 years or so. So far my flatmate has been practicing on my Jazz in the flat, but now wants to start taking it round to our friends flat for rehearsals and eventually use it for gigging. I've yet to question her about it as it's not been a problem so far, but I'm fairly sure she said she would play bass on the assumption that she could use my gear as and when she pleases, as I'm not currently gigging. Am I being selfish if I refuse to continue letting her use my stuff? It's fine in the flat but I'm not really happy with my stuff being taken away for gigs/prectices. It's quite quiet folky music she's playing so it's unlikely there'll be any Who-style destruction, but I'm not really comfortable letting other folk use my gear. What are other people's view on lending out their stuff? My gear's insured against 3rd party damage but why should I put up my premium by claiming in the even of some breaking? I had to work and save the cash to pay for it, so surely I'm in the right here?
No mate,... I don't think you are being selfish, its your gear, and its like your underpants, personal. !! If my bass gear was to get scratched or damaged in some way I would want to be the one responsible for the damage...not someone else. (not that I would WANT to damage it) I would be really pissed off if I had loaned somebody my stuff, (not that I would, have learned my lesson there) and they bought it back damaged, regardless of how sorry or contrite they may be. To avoid any of those possible dramas...tell her she can use it in the flat...that's it , Not Negotiable. If she cant cop that, then she can always buy her own !! And besides,.. she should be doing the housework, NOT pissing around with your BASS....(just joking) sort of............
 14.
You people kill me! The guy asked a simple question - which 15" cab would you recommend to use on it's own or with his 4x10. Hardly anybody has given him a straight answer, just a load of ego driven point scoring which is of no interest to anyone but the pathetic 'experts' trying to promote themselves. If the OP is still bothering to read this post, I'll make it really simple for you - Buy an Ashdown mag115, (used if possible) or buy the unloaded 115 on sale on this very forum and fit an Eminence 3015. I have used both and either way I don't think you will be disappointed, it is a great value single cab solution that isn't too heavy and should do the job nicely.
EXCELLENT Reply....I just knew you would be an old bastard like me. !!
 15. I have got NO idea what the *#@% they are talking about but I am interested, as that is what I wish to buy.....a 4x10 and a 1x15, am I doing the wrong thing then,...???
 16. Being an English forum I thought it would be the right place to ask this question....what are your opinions on the Ashdown Gear, both Amps and Cabs ?? Hoping to hear from those who own and use Ashdown, and/or have owned and used Ashdown products. I have arranged finance to buy myself an ABM 500 EVOIII Amp and an ABM 1x15" Cab and a 1x 4x10 Cab...Chris from Ashdown in the UK reckons that although some bits are now made in China,.......its still good gear. !...?? Opinions both positive and negative are appreciated Thanks
 17.
Hi I've got one of these - a Roland cube 30: It's a great little amp and I'm particularly fond of the 10" speaker. It's described as "10-inch coaxial 2-way speaker design". I looks like a normal speaker with a slightly elevated centre piece. I know nothing about speakers but it has a broad frequency range. My question is does anybody make a more powerful version of this speaker (say 100watt) in a smallish cabinet that I could use with my old HH amp? Or is there a company that sells this type of speaker? A Google search hasn't revealed much...
I have the 100 watt Version, and its the same deal, except its a 12" Driver. They are a Roland product, and available only from Roland, I am pretty sure on that....although not 100%
 18.
Hello all, Just a wee poll for us BCers to get an idea of the spread of basses that we all use! Apologies if I've left any major manufacturers out...hopefully I've covered most of them Cheers, Danny
Yes ya did Danny .....you forgot CORT !!
