Live dance style music with bass guitar
Twigman replied to ThomBassmonkey's topic in General Discussion
The gutarist in my band is a member of Above & Beyond.....the trance artists...they played one proper live show [rather than just DJing] in Beirut in 2009 in which he played bass and guitar. I went to the show rehearsal in Wandsworht the week before and they really were playing live!! He used a MM Stingray 4 3EQ with just a bit of compression[when playing bass] and a Jazzmaster guitar with his usual array of effects. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NjmAFli6bo the drummer is amazing..the camera work is appalling but it's the only footage of them actually playing and not just DJing -
Very reminicent of the bass sound on Pet Sounds, so I'm inclined to agree. Lovely.
How did you watch the video? This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been closed.

What's it sound like? I'm no expert but I've been led to believe that you get more top end off an ebony board than a rosewood board. Shame really as I was seriously considering ebony on the neck of my proposed bitsa - for the look - but I want deep warm tone and am not sure if ebony will cut it.

Took a punt on a Squier and my thoughts are....
Twigman replied to bassatnight's topic in Bass Guitars
Now that Squier have brought out that Fiesta red CV-P I think it's time I bought myself something else....I blame the CV-P for giving me GAS. before the CV-P my bass could only have been (from a distance to the punter) either a '62 original or the JV that it is or a Custom Shop job.......now everyone thinks it's 'just' a CV... It is this that has got me clicking on the Warmoth site to build myself a P that is unique.....whether I give in to the GAS and sink $1k on it is another matter.....but whatever, I blame the CV. -
be ready with a pick is all I have to say, it can save your life
doesn't work for me...since suffering nerve damage in my neck 2 years ago I don't have the strength to hold a pick!!! - I have had to relearn everything that used to be plectrum on fingers...which makes strummed bass chords...er different....that's the only area I struggle with now.

it looks a little too brown to be ebony...it is very dark though so maybe it's Brazilian as opposed to Indian rosewood?

I've just been quoted 12 weeks + shipping time for my possible parts order from Warmoth.

Twigman replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
Allparts are just as dear and won't do the finish i want..... I'm getting divorced anyway so this'll just be more ammunition for her..... I think I'll wait a little and do it. I just got to summon up the courage......so i get a Warmoth Precision Special in unique colours for the price of a MIM Deluxe Special with boring factory colours....and the satisfaction of designing and assembling myself mmmm decisions decisions -

Looking for a wiring diagram for a passive P special
Twigman replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
sorted thank you -
I'm looking for a wiring diagram for a passive P special (or P-J)... http://www.fender.com/uk/support/wiring_di...ists.php#basses seems only to cover models currently being offered by Fender..... Is it likely to be the same as a std Jazz? I'm primarily interested in the spec of the pots and capacitors for my custom build.

Having great fun configuring bodies/necks on the Warmoth website...and changed my mind about the colour.... stack everything in my cart and the end result is shocking $$$$ wise........ I wonder if I could sneak all this through on the company credit card? -

As the title says I am considering assembling my own custom bass from parts. I want to use NEW parts. I need a P-Bass body and a J-Bass rose/ebony neck to get what I want. It'll use vintage hardware and be painted Foam green with a tort plate.... Can you recommend the best UK supplier to source a NEW body and neck from? Cheers
The answer is pretty apparent, even in this thread: Because it pays.
So who plays bass for the money? I know I don't. I do get paid but that's not my motivation.
the band have been going since 1981 - and you appear to have only joined last year (according to the website).
I joined in 1984, left in 1990 (the band packed it in in 1991ish), rejoined in 2008 when the band reformed between 1991 and 2008 a handful of gigs were played - between this band and another on the same label there were a pool of musicians from which to pick - I was in the other band from 1989 to 1993 - bizarrely they have reformed without me now in 2010
