1. Classic guitar shop experiences there. Sorry not Bass Cellar related although I have been there and walked back out when a chap said the bass I wanted to try had been sold despite it still hanging up with price tag on. I used to live in Cardiff and as far as I am concerned it is rude guitar shop capital. Cranes Music is by far the worst, there used to be one really nice chap in there who was a bass player and he was cracking to chat to, but he left, I find the staff rude patronising and just plain ignorant to the stock they have. Gamlins is ok, again one nice chap in there who is great but the rest of the staff are clueless. My friend and I went into gamlins and he had £700 cash for a new amp and we went to try a few. He wanted a Fender Hot Rod, and they had one on budget. We were playing and then the miserable old bat who owns the shop (i think) came over and told us to shut up because there ws a little boy with his dad trying out an encore strat. My mate went mental and basically waved the cash at her and said "im going to cranes to spend this then".....hilarious if not a bit rude. I hate music shops, but I still want to go to the gallery...the holy grail!!!
2. Quite simply the best looking status I have ever seen and that is a seriously good price for such a quality instrument. Good luck.
3. good sized budget for a bass. I would say: Lakland: Joe Osbourne, or the 55 models, played them all, great great basses. Warwick: the market does not seem to healthy at the moment so there are some serious bargains to be had. G&L: I nearly bought one not long ago, seriously seriously great basses (if only they made an asat 5) Fender: Roscoe Beck V (awesome bass I have one, but might be a long shot), maybe one of the old precision deluxe 5's secondhand, they were awesome. I think some of the new fives and mexicans are a little squiffy on the low B. MusicMan: Stingray and stirling both brilliant and one of the best low B's out there on non 35" scale. Personally If I had the cash for another five I would go Used Lakland or G&L, great Rock basses. Stingrays are great but I like flexibility in sound. Good Luck.
4. Thanks everyone for the comments over the last few days, nice to see some support for warwicks at the moment. I have sale lined up and am thoroughly pleased I did not have to resort to ebay. Hopefully the deal should go through following a quick try out next week. I will modify the thread accordingly next week. Thanks again for the kind words, Nathan
5.
True enough, but how likely is it that the circuit board is dud?
Exactly, thats why I paid over the odds for this originally from my local music shop. I nearly bought from GAK but they were rude and I didn't like th guys attitude. Oh by the way, its going to the post office at lunch time so should be with you soon. Cheers, Nathan
6.
£380 is a joke price mate. Get it on ebay you'll get much more than that for it.
I know its low, its a real shame. If there are no takers its on the ebay next week. I just resent ebay and paypal taking a slice of the pie which is why it is on here.
7. Just sent some pics off so thought i would load up here too to try and spark some more interest Thanks, Nathan
8. SOLD! to a very nice chap from Wales. Many thanks
9.
It is all personal taste, however i would suggest its your mates rig that was possibly at fault. I use an overwater all the time gigging in a 3 piece, I use a rack system and 8x10 and get nothing but compliments about the cut and balls of my sound, Overwaters are designed to sound like the wood and construction of the instrument. If you want a character eq and pick ups, stick some in but as mentioned by others in the thread the build quality and playability is second to none. Dave
Quite possibly was his rig actually, he is a bit of a plug and play kinda guy and never seemed to bothered about sound, or looking after his very expensive 6 string. I just want to say it did sound like I was having an overwater bash....I really wasn't. They each sound very different, in fact the one that I really liked was the bolt on perception model...absolutely stonking, I actually preffered it to the big posh boys. They are stunningly built and the owner Chris May? was so very nice to me at the stand. As everyone has said, try as many as you can, it really is the only way when spending this much cash I think.
10.
I love the aesthetics of these basses. Top quality stuff. However I'm waiting for a top bass myself so I'm not in the market. Fortunately, I know someone who is very interested in getting a quality 5 string just like this in this price range. I've just mailed him and will let you know if he gets back to me. Either way, bump for a top bass and an absurdly low price. Mark
Hi Mark, Thanks for the kind words. Spread the word about the sale ha ha, just send me a PM if your friend is interested. I had a nibble yesterday but waiting to hear back, just so you can let your friend know. :-) Many thanks, Nathan
11. Hey Bubinga 5, Just noticed you are Cheltenham based, do you know Aroundabout sound by any chance? The owner is selling his GB spitfire, it is absolutely stunning but it is a four string (didn'y know what you were after). I have tried a few overwaters, a friend has a 6 string and I tried nearly all of the basses at the stand at the london guitar show this year. Overwaters are beautifully made and look stunning but as some others have said it depends what you are after. My friend used his in a rock band with a Euphonic Audio Iamp 800 and to be honest it was gutless and didn't cut through in a hard rock band (may just have been him not using it right) but I found the sound very mellow. (incidentally he used a warwick and an Ashdown next gig in the same venue and it was HUGE!) I dont want to offend any Overwater owners, they are stunning but not right for my ears! I prefer a much more punchy stingray tone so maybe that is why it did not rock my world. The OW Jazz I tried was better but again it just didn't do it for me, I just found it lacking in balls especially after going and playing a lakland. The GB in Cheltenham is amazing and in fact I nearly maxed out a credit card and bought it, just ask them as it is not out on show. Anyway I hope you find something, Head to the gallery in London probably the best idea, might even pick up something secondhand and save a few quid
12. Thanks everyone for the kind words, I cannot express how much pain I am in having to drop the price again. This really is a stunning bass, and IMHO it is much better than many of the newer warwicks I have played. My FINAL reduction is £380. If I do not get any nibbles in the next few days then its off to ebay sadly. I dont want to do this because of the fees and hassle but needs must.....I hate being poor. Many thanks, Nathan
13. Hello, Very reluctantly I am having to sell my Superfly head. I am in a poor financial situation and am selling this and my very loved Warwick Streamer to get myself out of trouble. I bought this 3 months ago and it was taken out of the box, put on my cab and has been played maybe 10 times, that is it. It is in ace condition and as you can see in the pictures I have the box and all the goodies to go with it. I think I even have the receipt if anyone wants it. I know some people have their opinions of these amps and that is fine, but I love this amp. It sounds fantastic and switching through the presets has given me all the sounds I have needed and more so. Ok this amp has some special abilities like changing settings on computer etc, but equally you can just plug it in and play and with a few clicks get a great sound. There have been a few of these with some issues but this has been played for a couple of hours at a time in my bedroom (much to girlfriends dismay) and it is perfect I simply cannot fault it and there are some other users on here who will back me up in how good these are. Full specs can be found here on the Ashdown site: http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=199 I know these were going at nearly half their original price towards the end and that is something I will have to live with so price is £175 I have got some good feedback on the feedback thread so buy with confidence. I will happily send this if needed and I am a pretty good packer so don't worry. Please please PM me if you want more pics or any more info, pics below
14. Hello, Apologies if there is already a thread like this, I did have a quick search. When my Roscoe Beck arrived my girlfriend asked me "what is the new one called then" I didn't know what to say. I have never really named guitars before despite being very attached to them, (probably more than is healthy to be honest) I am bored at work so thought it would be interesting to see what everyone else called theirs. So with that, what does everyone call their basses?. Is it just a bass to you, or do you have a specific name for your bass/basses or refer to your bass as "he" or "she" or "the old girl"? To start things off my Roscoe Beck is now referred to as Bex or Bexie. Cheers all Nathan
15.
Like the new avatar Nathan! Can't believe this bass is still here!!!
HA HA! Cheers, it was time to move on from the Stingray and show some love for the new addition. I love it so thought I would share it. Its a shame about the warwick, maybe no-one wants them or I have somehow put everyone off. Edit: I need some cash and the new band means I need a big new powerful amp as well so FINAL REDUCTION..........£390 someone......anyone? Cheers Nathan
16. Hello, I have had a few close ones on this and a couple of offers, but I am afraid at the moment I cannot let it go for much less than £400. Despite needing some funds, I also need a new amp as the one I currently have is not going to be powerful enough for the band I have just joined. If anyone has anything and wants to do a trade then PM me. I would consider a direct swap if the amp is special but ideally i would like a wee bit of money my way. Would consider most things, but looking for maybe: Ashdown, Gallien, SWR, or anything around the 300watt + Thanks again, Nathan
17. Jesus my missus objects to four guitars in the house, how the bloody hell to you get away with that? Outrageous collection and eaxctly what I would have given the chance/another girlfriend/more money.
18. You cannot be in a wedding band an not play mustang sally, its the law isn't it? I hate the damb song but guaranteed if your having a dodgy night with the crowd, play that and every ganny father in law and fiv eyear old in the building will dance. I have an even worse one.......This used to be THE ABSOLUTE BEST CROWD PLEASER when we played....Mavericks, "dance the night away". ABSOLUTELY HATEFUL HATEFUL SONG, but you would have thought we were throwing £50 notes on the dance floor when we played it, everytime even with young trendy couples who liked Damien Rice and that Jack...all my acoustic songs are exactly the same... chap. I miss being in a wedding band...oh what about Midnight Hour is that allowed?
19. hello, PM'd once again with some info, Bump as well I suppose. Cheers
20. SkB make cracking cases, I think they make Musicman and Fender cases? could be wrong. Also I have a lovely Hiscox case, very sturdy and used by a few people on here, and the choice of John Shuker and Status I believe.
21. Are you splitting the cabs and head. Interested in trades for the head if so? Cheers, nathan
22. Interested in trades at all? Cheers, Nathan
