haha .. could you imagine if you only just realised now that you have been playing your bass upside down all this time!
no ,no you didnt think I actually meant it was...up side..? did you? no, err.. oh forget it
I had the exact same problem. I did a temporary bass swap with a mate, my Modulus for his Stingray .. I was excited to hear the sound, the punch and crunch that you heard from the likes of Flea! The E, A and D string sounded awesome ... the G String!!! flat, no punch, no crunch! I actually cried. my mate mentioned (rumour? not sure) that it was an issue with the pick up at manufacture stage. Official line from EB was that this was a 'characteristic' of the bass sound rather than a balls up (haha). I think they messed up big time and rather than recalling thousands of bass' they just spun that excuse. There really was a massive difference in sound! needless to say the temporary bass swap was just that ... TEMPORARY!
Maybe that mine was upside down then?

I know this dosen't help at all but I had a pre EB MM 'ray and the E string on that sounded Dull compared to the others. never worked out why is it a design thing? I dont think so as other ones Ive had were (are) fine (just chucking that in the ring as t'were) W
Most pertinent observation of the thread (pace Scalpy's keenly observed piece. And a few others). Crikey is rather a fine word and sadly under-used. I'd welcome the reappearance of such alternative exclamations as: Jings, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Man alive, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Lordy Lordy, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Jakers, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc God's blood, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Great Caesar's Ghost, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Damn your eyes, Sir, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc
Jakers!! .....HA,Ha,Ha,HA!! I'd forgotten that one. I also think, the phrase "Help 'ma Boab"..... from "oor Wille" I used to read in the sunday post as a kid should make a come back. Im not scottish, I just like them guys! should this be a new thread by the way? swearing that "isnt swearing"? if this is a hijack I've no mask BTW

The thing is with Ashdown stuff,.... to me, it looks like something out of a 50's SI/FI film or, at least, something Checkov would have on his "desk" (60's) I'll get me coat..... -

Funnily enough Nige; I've allways hated the term "Bassist" it sounds so.. err...."university student" to me (that irritation, probably only makes sense to me, by the way!) I'm a "bass player" and any one who says different.............has heard me Play -
I think its absolutey hilarious that people still use the word "crikey" QUOTE: "Crikey, I'm surprised I haven't received a restraining order from Chris Squire, Lemmy, Stanley Clarke or Leigh Gorman":UNQUOTE its just such an "Enid Blyton" word.... we really should be allowed some swear words here! if we play nicely... we would't though, would we?
Is there a bass player in Queen?
Oh dear, ....wake up Mr S !! oh, but.. I suppose you mean nowadays though, dont you? I think its some american session guy (name? I don't know) who fills John's shoes when they do gigs now. Paul Rodgers? (I think Fred would have approved BTW)

No bids for a Hohner 6 string bass
witterth replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
£250 is about right, oddly, for ebay. dont pay more I'd say what are those extra 2 strings for any way? -
What about the bass part in the Deacon pened "you're my best friend"? really tricky, but, in a way,subtle...(as some one else said) having played in a Queen tribute act.....John is up there!! very, very good player. if you're copying him, he makes you work hard! Class act. Btw, you know when you're in a band that is So sh#t hot tight and rehearsed so well you "know" every single note that well you can do it standing on you head without even the SLIGHTEST bit of bluff??...well I think, thats John Deacon world.

For me, an Ibanez "blazer" ,you know, the supergrass ones. for VERY weak pickups, and, sorry fender fans, a precision bass (70s one...I know ..I know) because, I just, well, dont like them...sorry!

I find it really interesting, yet confusing, the number of BCers on this thread; who comment on Paul Macartneys, "Personality" so Knowledgably,This, having (apparentley) Never met, spoke or consorted with him, on any percivable level what so ever !? (well they listened to some 40'yr old records...) and some 30/20/10/4 yr' olds too!! No one (here) seems have much of a clue about him, other than some vague media gleaned/fed perception of what the (sic) the, "aged rocker" is all about.. Ballorcks!! well, I haven't met him either, but ... but the mere the fact he's been about for so long and been a success, seems to annoy some people... good god!! ... it can only be.. Jealousy. I wonder If, any thing by say, eerr, I dont know..."nickelback"(christ!)," The killers" or even "Green Day"will make the school choir of 2090. I'm willing to bet (money) sommat by Macca does. & with his Bass lines intact. who'll will collect though?! EDIT : spelling/ grammar not intent
