Thanks for that, Here is the back of my amp and its connections: http://ixbtlabs.com/articles/inspire5700vsdtt3500/5700decoder-back.jpg I have been using either the front or rear analog outputs, the other end went into the old tv's audio outs left and right using 2 phono plugs. The optical is a possibility but when I plug the lead in to it nothing happens, it seems to work from the tv end as there is a light on the end of the cable. On the tv I have these: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/image/hdtv/Samsung-UE40H6400/connections.jpg can you see how it could connect? thanks.

Hi all, My TV conked out last week, it was a 40" samsung about 7 years old and I had connected to it a set of cambridge sound works 5'1 speakers which only worked in stereo but was effin' loud and thumpy. The tv that the insurance company has replaced it with is a samsung UE40H6400 which is very nice but I can't get the sound to work. It only has IR, Optical and headphone out and nothing works with my old amp so... I need (I think) a receiver with hdmi and all the speaker inputs + optical??? Can anyone help me out with recommendations on what to buy please? I'm not well off so go easy please The speakers and sub are all excellent with phono connections so I think I just need an amp? thanks guys.

I had a sunburst Jazz and it was great in every way but one. It was VERY heavy.

What's DAW?

I could, but it's a faff on when trying to sit down so the service can carry on. So, I think I have a solution, I changed my cable for an OBBM one I forgot I had and got an immediate cut in the gain buzz. So I tried a few different kettle leads and bingo! down to an acceptable level. Just to add that when I unplugged my bass cable the noise stopped dead, I've never known a cable make such a huge difference. I'm fairly new to all this as I played a 12 string guitar since the mid 60's, that was much easier to amp up

Ah, some good points here, thanks for that. My P basses are 1x MIM and 2x Squier, 1 Chris Aiken with a SPB-1 fitted and a VM P with the same. I'll go and try the leads and see where that goes.

Hiya, seems a bit of a daft statement but playing in a church can be noisy, we usually have about 20 mins of absolute quiet while the Minister talks. The problem is the humming noise that comes from having a small amount of gain on. Are all amps like this? For instance we were out last night using my TC electronics 1x 15 combo again with the gain on about quarter and the volume quite high. So am I doing anything wrong with settings? Or is there a quieter amp that doesn't buzz when you put a bit of gain on? I realise this is a unique problem but there must be a way round it. thanks!

I use a TE AH300-7, 1x15 in our church, it never goes anywhere else (weight) and is for my use the best thing since candy floss. Very powerful thing rated at 300w but feels more. Anybody know how old this might be? It has the black/green cloth.

Quick update. The mixer has added a lot of volume to the mikes so the way we work it now is to put her 12 string direct to the roland speaker and the mike through the mixer first. It all works great now. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Bit of a hypocrite really, says that any lewd comments will be reported to Ebay, Give him a gun and a bullet and he'll shoot himself in the foot, worra plank, proper wooden anchor.

Thanks guys. The venues where this will be used are as said small country churches. When she is speaking no one else is making a sound, it's always very quiet. When we sing (I support her with bass and vocals as required, I don't need a mike to be heard in these places. (Yeah I know ) I ordered the mixer to have a go, if it doesn't work I can send it all back, Andertons are very good to deal with. I'll report back when the mixer arrives.......

We have tried using the Marshall but the speech side of it sounds very dull and thick, even with the treble fully up whereas the Roland is crystal clear, just needs to be a bit louder.

Just had a natter with Andertons, the guy recommended this mixer: Alto Professional Zephyr ZMX52 Mixing Desk he said the preamp would work well with the roland rather than spending a lot more money?? **EDIT, sorry just seen the post after I wrote about the mixer.

Phil, thanks for that explanation, much appreciated. Ok last night we experimented with the Sen and the SM58 copy made in china. The sen model is E845 s and we bought it new and haven't really used it. Singing and playing a 12 string is no problem as her voice is louder when singing. Talking, she doesn't like having a mike stuck in her face so she prefers to be 4-6 inches away from it which makes the sen virtually useless when delivering her sermon. The sm copy is much better and is more responsive at that distance, just not quite loud enough. She doesn't move about when talking so I feel that the issue is mike sensitivity, hence would a clip on wireless connected to the roland be any better? I don't want to spend a fortune on things that don't quite do it and music/audio shops are few and far between here.
-
As said, she is very quietly spoken and the roly doesn't seem to add much. After I posted I found an old SM58 copy which was way louder than the expensive Sennheiser. That made a big difference! Soooooo.... I have wondered if a clip on wireless mike would work better with the roland? I don't know much about this subject so any help is very much appreciated. She hates standing close to a microphone or 'eating it' so I guess it needs to be quite sensitive, clip on would seem to solve that problem if they are any good?
Maybe check out the Roland CM30? They are really small and compact (check the photos of its scale next to a person in the link) but really loud when turned up. Sound quality is really good and you get a few input options. They get fantastic reviews (5 out of 5 on musicians friend) and retail about £159 so should be perfect for you're after :-) Link! http://www.musicians...30-cube-monitor
Bought one of these and it's just not loud enough for speaking into, playing guitar is ok but struggling vocally. On the upside it's very well made and very versatile. Going to ring Andertons and see if they'll take it back. Is there a bigger version of it? Cheers, Tom.

This is my story: I started smoking when I was 13 in 1959, my mates both smoked and believe it or not it was trendy and most people took it up. I smoked heavily for the next 45 years and on 22nd November 2004 I had my triple bypass operation, I had my last cigarette the day before. The nurse who explained how it was all going down said: If you smoke again after this operation you are a fool and you'll be back for another op' within 2 years or dead! I've never had a heart attack, just angina. I haven't had a smoke since then and I have never missed them at all, in fact if I'm walking behind someone who's smoking I'll cross the road to avoid them. These days I feel and breathe so much better, my wife says I smell much better too. They saved my life that day and I'll never forget waking in intensive care with 2 nurses watching me around the clock, I still get emotional remembering that time. What I'm trying to say is it's never too late to stop and I don't care how you do it JUST DO IT!!!
