Congratulations to Alex and Barefaced. Commerford is a high profile player, whether or not you know who he is and whether or not you like his tone*. Having him using your manufactured equipment is fantastic. *I knew who Commerford was but I can't say I care too much one way or the other about his tone. I have no idea what a 'tone fiend' or 'daddy of bass tone' can possibly mean other than 'I like his tone'. If I was using a Barefaced cab I doubt I would sound anything like Commerford.

[/quote] Tension, by definition, is only affected by three things: 1 Vibrating length of the string (from bridge saddle to nut). 2 Mass per unit length of the string. 3 Pitch to which the string is tuned. Nothing beyond the bridge or beyond the nut can have any effect on tension. However, compliance or elasticity - i.e. how the string 'feels' - may be affected by other factors such as round-core or hex-core construction, steeper break angles, length of string beyond nut or bridge. [/quote] After the shim, the bottom edge of the whole bridge plate should be approx quarter inch (or half centimetre) above the pickguard with no serious buzzing. That gives an effective break angle after appropriate TR adjustment and bridge saddle adjustment. It took me a few goes to get the shim correct - a small difference in shim can have a big difference in bridge situation. Very good but you won't know what you've got until you've shimmed the neck and changed the strings. It makes a massive difference in my experience, as does the Staytrem bridge.

Tape would not look as good.

Oil-can guitars are very common in southern Africa (and maybe the rest of Africa for all I know). Son of ET and me were at a stall in a market in Durban. The stallholders were very proudly in possession of a Fender Stratocaster and were somewhat flummoxed to find we were not so bothered by a Strat and were more interested in their oil-can guitars, which played and sounded great.
