1.
The best example of '60s 'click-bass', but I'd reckon that Love Affair track is a Jazz. Curious - can I ask why you think it's a Rick?
I would have thought Jazz too.
 2.
... The Fralin is a fantastic pup but costs quite a bit more than the others.
That is its drawback.
 3.
Didn't that come later, after Dan Lakin had publically defended said dealer, then had his hand bitten?
Yes, it was at the tail end of the EBMM stuff and I think you're correct that Dan Lakin had defended said dealer. The end result for the seven of us was good though because we lost nothing because Lakland acted towards us as if they had received our deposits when it certainly appeared that they had not received them.
 4.
... This is increasingly reminding me of a situation a few years back. A bass dealer who was highly prolific on bass forums (and hence well-known) was given a dealership just as EBMM were announcing one of their limited edition runs. Dozens of basses were ordered through him the moment the order window was opened, and everyone started the usual waiting game. Fast forward a few months and the limited editions started pouring out... except to the people who had ordered from this guy. Weeks and weeks passed with anger being directed at EBMM until it eventually came out that the dealer hadn't actually paid EBMM for the orders he'd placed. He had gotten into financial difficulties and ultimately couldn't juggle the money long enough ...
In that case it wasn't only EBMM instruments, it was also some Laklands. Although seven (IIRC) of us had ordered Laklands, our deposits had not been passed on to Lakland nor the order placed. However, we were credited with our deposits by Lakland and supplied with our basses. Lakland then, I believe, chased the dealer concerned for the missing money. That's customer service.
 5.
No, that would be a strap lock on the top horn and a regular button below the bridge. A12 least no one had a bass like that from new!
.. with Fender, never say never.
 6. As has already been said, it really does depend on what sound you're looking for. For the 'original' P bass sound though I'd go for the Lindy Fralin, except that I'd probably just keep the Fender pickup.
 7. It's going to look great in the end.
 8.

That was fabulous.
 9. For Sale: NS Designs WAV4 EUB with upgrades - £500 - a bargain price!!! I bought this from Lee650 back in March 2009 and here’s the original sale thread: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Since then I have fitted Hipshot Ultralite HB6Y black tuners ($160 from Hipshot) and Obligato strings (£134 at Thomann) which are only a few months old with very little use. As well as the Hipshot tuners simply being better, the Obligato strings were difficult to use with the original tuners as they were really too thick for the hole in the tuner. I can include the original tuners if you want them. The EUB is in amberburst finish, with beech body and ebony fingerboard, and a piezo pickup with switching for arco or pizzicato - although I found the arco position more effective for pizzicato! This one has the upgraded stand found on the more expensive CRM models. Lee told me he thought there was a fault with the original one and Promenade Music, where he bought it, got the distributers to send an upgraded version of the stand. Also included is the original NS soft bag which carries the EUB and the stand and has pockets for a bow etc. Condition is very good, I can only find one small bump but couldn't get it to show in a photo, and it's on the back and no-one will see it anyway. I’m looking for a cash sale at £500 preferably with a pickup from Brighton or a meet somewhere in the south-east (Clacket Lane M25 services is popular). If I can't find a local or meet sale then I might post if I have to at the full cost of the buyer. So, let’s have some pictures. The whole thing: The body: The controls: Body and end of fingerboard: Head and Obligatos: Tuners: Stand: I’m looking for a cash sale at £500 preferably with a pickup from Brighton or a meet somewhere in the south-east (Clacket Lane M25 services is popular). 10.
I've been playing more with a pick lately... Fender jazz, flats, pick... instant West coast 60s sound. Nice...
I do like that sound too, Joe Osborn in LA or John Paul Jones and others in the UK. It works with a P bass too but then it's Carol Kaye.
 11.
This thread has probably had it's day. Some us got Fenders with locks some didn't. Really nothing else to say. Thanks for the input everybody.
So, that's probably typical of Fender.
 12. A bassist friend of mine - who, anyway, wouldn't know a straplock if it hit him in the face - has a from new 2004 American Deluxe P5 with no straplocks.
 13.
me too, had to put my own strap locks on. Just seen eddies post, but I'm sure I've played Deluxe series that didn't the plot thickens...
... with Fender, never say never, anything is possible.
 14.
I think only the American Deluxe series had/has them fitted. I bought an American Deluxe P- Bass in 2001 that came with the Schaller strap locks.
Maybe my memory is going but, IIRC, my 2006 American Deluxe P didn't have them.
 15. I've had several MIA Fenders since the 1980s and never had a factory fitted straplock on any of them.
 16. I've never had a Fender that came with straplocks fitted. Which models had those?
 17.
Fran - You shouldn't be having any more problems as the server and website is now running at full speed (and has been for well over a week) Any problems are now most likely at your end. As for changing skins and your allusion "that the mods will not be happy"? - You go on to state that you realise that this will essentially make no difference in revenue - so why make the point in the first place? I've used the standard IP skin - it makes no difference in speed for me.
I use the IP skin too. I don't have any speed difference, it just looks better to me.
 18.
Would restringing the bass B-E-A-D have any wonky consequences?
You may have to file the nut slots, dependent on whether the new strings fit the present slots. This may mean a new nut when you go back to EADG. You may have to tweak the truss rod - the tension of BEAD is commonly slightly lower than EADG. You may have to reset the intonation.
Should I change the songs in my set to fit around standard 4 string tuning and leave the bass unmodified?
That's what I would do, but you'll have to decide.
 19.
There are at least two threads on BEAD on a 4 every month. Search function is your friend.
Here's a few to get it started: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/155465-thinking-of-doing-the-bead-thing/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/143512-bead-tuning-on-a-4-string/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/136084-change-4-string-from-eadg-to-bead/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/130845-b-e-a-d/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1
 20.
I LOVE surf green, but the white scratchplate would be the one for me. Tort looks too confusing!
Even though I showed the tort picture I too prefer the white.
 21.
That looks ace.
Certainly does, and nice flooring too
 22. For your edification, and if you didn't already know, this B10 was the 51st guitar completed at the Takamine factory on Wednesday 14th March 2001.
 23.
With tortoiseshell pickguard - mmmmmmmm!
Here you go:
 24.
*Please do not attempt this when the strings are ON the bass*
Exactly:
