1.
me too, had to put my own strap locks on. Just seen eddies post, but I'm sure I've played Deluxe series that didn't the plot thickens...
... with Fender, never say never, anything is possible.
 2.
I think only the American Deluxe series had/has them fitted. I bought an American Deluxe P- Bass in 2001 that came with the Schaller strap locks.
Maybe my memory is going but, IIRC, my 2006 American Deluxe P didn't have them.
 3. I've had several MIA Fenders since the 1980s and never had a factory fitted straplock on any of them.
 4. I've never had a Fender that came with straplocks fitted. Which models had those?
 5.
Fran - You shouldn't be having any more problems as the server and website is now running at full speed (and has been for well over a week) Any problems are now most likely at your end. As for changing skins and your allusion "that the mods will not be happy"? - You go on to state that you realise that this will essentially make no difference in revenue - so why make the point in the first place? I've used the standard IP skin - it makes no difference in speed for me.
I use the IP skin too. I don't have any speed difference, it just looks better to me.
 6.
Would restringing the bass B-E-A-D have any wonky consequences?
You may have to file the nut slots, dependent on whether the new strings fit the present slots. This may mean a new nut when you go back to EADG. You may have to tweak the truss rod - the tension of BEAD is commonly slightly lower than EADG. You may have to reset the intonation.
Should I change the songs in my set to fit around standard 4 string tuning and leave the bass unmodified?
That's what I would do, but you'll have to decide.
 7.
There are at least two threads on BEAD on a 4 every month. Search function is your friend.
Here's a few to get it started: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/155465-thinking-of-doing-the-bead-thing/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/143512-bead-tuning-on-a-4-string/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/136084-change-4-string-from-eadg-to-bead/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/130845-b-e-a-d/page__hl__bead__fromsearch__1
 8.
I LOVE surf green, but the white scratchplate would be the one for me. Tort looks too confusing!
Even though I showed the tort picture I too prefer the white.
 9.
That looks ace.
Certainly does, and nice flooring too
 10. For your edification, and if you didn't already know, this B10 was the 51st guitar completed at the Takamine factory on Wednesday 14th March 2001.
 11.
With tortoiseshell pickguard - mmmmmmmm!
Here you go:
 12.
*Please do not attempt this when the strings are ON the bass*
Exactly:
 13.
... And different woods must affect tone ...
That's exactly what is disputed, and, if wood does have any effect on tone at all, is that effect immediately over-ridden by strings, pickups, electronics, effects, playing style, amplification etc.
 14.
I've heard that they may be releasing the Classic Vibe Jazz in Surf Green.... I really hope its true!
Where did you hear that?
 15.
Pick the one you most like the look of.
Correct answer.
 16. ... and the pickguard is in the post.
 17. Wrong age and wrong area or I might be interested. Good luck.
 18. I use a K&K with my NS4
 19.
Well known Irish luthier http://www.chrislark...s.com/home.html IIRC BC'er Gareth Hughes has owned some of his basses
OK thanks for that.
 20.
Hi Clarky This bass was originally purchased by myself new from a store in Dublin. I had Chris Larkin fit the fret markers after some piercing stares from my bandmates as I flustered around the original unmarked fretless board. It really is a cracking bass and sounds as an upright should. Built quality is amazing. Good luck to the new owner
Hello and thank you, Paulie (and Clarky and the others who owned it in between). Very pleased so far. The fretlines and side dots have clearly been done very professionally but who is Chris Larkin?
 21.
Wowzers, that's potentially great news Will there be a serial number on the bottom of the neck - the part which is unseen (connected the main body of the guitar)? Ive googled this and there could be a serial number there. Just wanted to make sure before I take the neck off to have a look!
The neck doesn't usually have a serial number but likely has a model number, a month and a year.
 22.
I am trying to establish the date of my Fender P Bass. Ive been told its between a late 70's and early 80's but Im really not sure. The neck plate has a number on it - 626410, but Im not sure if this is anything to go by? Is there anything else that can give me a clue to the true date of this P bass? Josh
The Guitar Dater Project says 1975 for that serial number.
 23. It's not the gauge as such but the mass per unit length of string. Of course if you're talking about the same make and model of string then the mass per unit length of string will increase as gauge increases. If they are different make or model of string then a higher gauge could have a lower mass per unit length of string. So, higher mass per unit length = higher tension when the pitch and the scale length remain the same.
