This is common. On a two pickup Jazz bass there's a sweet spot (although not everyone will agree it's sweet) with the neck pickup on 100% and the bridge pickup rolled off to about 75%.

Don't concentrate on being loud enough to hear yourself. Instead, be quiet enough that you can hear everyone else. If everyone does that, then there is no problem.

Great idea but without the Badass, and without the Pickguard, and with a '51 single coil pickup and a piezo in the bridge it would have been a great success.
