One songwriting method - indeed a very common method - isto know exactly which songs are your influences and so to avoid copying too closely.

[/quote] It's melody and lyrics that hold copyright. No copyright on chord sequence or bassline or anything else.

If you are changing gauge only, but manufacturer and model of string are staying the same, then a heavier gauge will commonly increase tension and lower compliance. If you are changing manufacturer and model of string then, whatever the gauge, there is no way of telling without knowing which strings - manufacturer and model - and knowing how that model is constructed.

Or just move your and up or down the neck or just play it in a different position. And if you do play it in a different position, then just like a guitarist playing different inversions of the chords, you can change the feel by playing different inversions of the chord tones.

If you're stringing a Fender style headstock with a string tree for the D and G strings then the number of winds on those two strings matters less. On E and A strings more winds gives a better break angle at the nut. I put a new set of Pyramid Gold flats on my Lakland Decade last week: E string = 6 winds A string = 5 winds D string = 4 winds G string = 4 winds

Talking about 1965, that was when a new Fender was about three months wages.
